  1. Stop the brand wars in this forum. I'm sick and tired of it. Anyone worth their salt in the community, isn't in some sort of brand war with a competing product. All it does is make a pilot LOSE credibility. In fact, it's rarely even a conversation point at swoop meets. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  2. Anyone else see this? http://blueskiesmag.com/2009/12/01/alti-2-releases-new-no-fing-way-audible-altimeter/ I think it's pretty nifty
  3. Remi, Sorry buddy, but (I believe) you are incorrect on this one. Swooping is entirely different than it was 5 years ago, let alone 12. Pilots have a far better understanding of techniques (and 12 years ago people were pretty much just whipping it around with a toggle or riser), and how to apply those techniques. If a pilot, today, can't see the difference, I would seriously encourage them to take a canopy class or seek to educate themselves about canopy piloting (not necessarily swooping). Swooping, like any high speed sport (including skydiving) is very unforgiving of error. Believe it or not, most of the time these sort of incidents result in broken bones, bruised egos, etc and not fatalities. I don't believe density altitude played a factor in this. As with ALL the injuries this comp has had (and it's been unusually high) - I believe it was summed up best earlier in the thread. One of the most important thing for a competitive canopy pilot to understand is this: It's ok to miss the gate and get a zero. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. Guys, Quit the brand war. The only one out there is the one in your heads. There's no doubt that the pilot makes the wing perform, and I believe any of the top pilots would do well under the either of the wings. Sangi, I suggest you post more cautiously, you are dangerously close to trolling. Posting intentional inflammatory comments (you have a history of this) will not be tolerated. Consider this your one warning. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  5. I believe those are confirmed now. Congrats to both pilots, they were both spectacular runs! Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. Jay broke the world record, today, under a velocity 79. 175+ meters. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  7. Agreed. For example, Nick Batsch is using a 63 here at the World Cup and doing just fine Smaller wings are much much harder to fly well, though. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  8. Every pilot has a 'style' or method they prefer to use to generate power. Riser pressure may impact their ability to do their preferred turn. It's really important that a pilot finds a wing that compliments themselves and the things they like. If that's a JVX, Velo, V-MAX, XAOS, etc it doesn't really matter - long as they're happy with it. As usual, demo. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  9. Oh Mike..... Your comments don't offend me, they never have. It's a hard thing to do. Feel free to make this a right/left wing thing - but it really has nothing to do with your party affliations. I really enjoy reading Gawain (and a few others)....hell even rushmc from time to time, because even if I disagree with their deductions, I can at least see where they're coming from. I'd say this is true for a fair amount of posters here - of all political affiliations. That said I get just as irritated at Kallend when he does the same thing I'm calling you out on - to be fair Kallend does it a lot less and generally presents his thoughts well (again, even if I disagree with them). Your posts, on the other hand, are almost always emotional in an attacking sense, and generally consist of "No, YOU prove it" or, "I'm rubber and you're glue". Neither of those make for a strong case. But yeah, go ahead and label me in any way you need to so that you can avoid introspection. The only person it ultimately hurts is yourself - and people still don't understand where you're coming from. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. I take it you've never seen Jay's 678ft distance run? Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. Thanks for proving my point so thoroughly, I couldn't have done it without you
  12. Do you? BESIDES the snippet above, that is? WOW, another "im rubber and you're glue". Typical response I've come to expect from you. I do have to wonder, though, why it is that you're rarely capable of discussing an actual issue.? You're certainly one of the most vocal, but also one of those who contribute the least in a discussion. It's getting old fast. But hey, it's a free world, I'm just hear to read what people think. 13. awesome, thanks. See you in a few days. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  14. Depends. if you want opensource then a PHP, or Java based system is probably going to be your best bet IMO. You can use Apache Server with Tomcat (both free) as your webserver (which will render the Java or PHP backend). Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. I'm hearing conflicting reports about this. Reynier, can you please clarify who's eligible for prize money? Thanks, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. Fair enough, but we don't follow those anymore either to the best of my knowledge. Regardless, the stage has been set - all we can do is see how this all pans out. Personally, I'm optimistic that they'll see justice and, likely, the death penalty. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. I really can't agree with you there. If we start picking and chosing who gets due process - we're in for a hell of a ride. Think about it: child molesters, murders, serial killers, terrorists? These guys are not going to get away with it - don't let emotion cloud the issue. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  18. First of all it's extremely unlikely this will happen. An interesting statistic I heard was that, so far, the conviction rate is 100% for terrorists in the US public court system. Second of all, I applaud the Obama administration for giving these 'people' a fair trial. Regardless of how I feel about these 'people' - everyone, no matter what, deserves a fair trial. Now, when (and hopefully this turns out to be true) - they convict them and sentence them to the chamber, you won't hear a single complaint out of me. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  19. ok you two. Take it to PM's Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. Your 1 warning, Harry. No personal attacks. Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. And knowing is half the battle. GO-JOE! Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. You'd be surprised how much a person can gather about one's flying level just based on the above statement and the way it was presented. The VMAX has been compared closest to a XAOS - I have no jumped one but there are a few South Africans here who have and can give you some good info about it. Your best bet is to avoid flying in turbulent or gusty conditions - no RAM-Air canopy out there, x-braced or not, is turbulence proof. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  23. I just gave this a watch today (it's available on Netflix streaming either to PC or XBOX - and soon PS3). Incredibly interesting. http://constantinessword.com/ Performance Designs Factory Team
  24. Yes - everyone had listeners, and we had 1 shepherd on each dive. It would be too confusing if everyone was talking. There isn't much radio chatter, but it helps if something needs to be corrected, or some big change is coming up. We use those for training people air to air as well.
