  1. All the military people I work with have done them. NONE of them have said they liked it, citing saddle time and cold temps as the main reasons.
  2. Lets keep it in the swoop week thread. See you there
  3. Nope. Reread my post. I can only go off of my experiences. So far they are not what you relate to. I'm not saying you're wrong, your experiences are different. They don't match mine, however. Not right, or wrong, just different. Also, I can see pilots making that decision based on your description - in my experience though the ground track is slower for them so they feel they're too high and wait for appropriate input. Regardless, again, I AM saying that conditions effect pilots input. We are in agreement for the most part. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. Actually, you are right BMFin - this is something that happens to a lot of pilots without them even realizing it. HOWEVER, in my experience, I've found downwind to cause people to flare high, and strong headwinds to cause people to flare low (or in the case of HP pilots, cause them to dive longer than necessary because they think they're higher than they really are). Either way, wind conditions skew a pilots perceptions. edit for clarification: I am NOT saying that the canopy flies differently, I am saying that the pilots perception of what is happening changes and causes them to fly in a different manner than expected. 5. I think you miss the point. He can't get insurance at a reasonable price anymore. Now, you could argue that if he hadn't dropped it, it's unlikely the price would have risen, but even that's not guaranteed. Remember, the discussion is about affordable health insurance for everyone (at least to me it is) Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. I actually asked Jay about that a while back and while I can't speak for him, at the time his answer: We haven't found it drop off yet. For canopy piloting the problem becomes the skill it takes to effectively fly the wing at 'ultra' loadings - I suspect wingsuiting will suffer the same limitations. Really interesting question by the op. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  7. Not as much as you do. Somebody's gotta be "the pitcher", might as well be me. Soooo.....what you doing later today? Performance Designs Factory Team
  8. Now I'm just the naughty girl next door. Who likes anal. Performance Designs Factory Team
  9. I've seen this happen in the last 6 years. The jumper blew out an entire riser group, 2 c-lines, and both brake lines on his reserve. Miraculously he survived with minor injuries. I still have the video of the post inspection somewhere. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. Priceless! Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. Without having seen you fly, I can say this: Having a STRONG foundation will always help you. Oftentimes, when training students, I end up breaking them down to the basics and rebuilding them back up again. You can only build on a crap foundation for so long. If your numbers are accurate (profile wise), I believe you'll benefit more in the long run from really focusing on building that foundation. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. While 180's are the LEAST favorable part of canopy piloting progression (to me) they are, as Frost pointed out, an essential step. I do not recommend skipping them. Additionally I DO recommend you get good, consistent, coaching if you're going to move forward in the high performance arena. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  13. And if you read my post it was referring to your irrational approach to Obama. This is NOT about his policies (regardless of what the propaganda machine may be saying) so please don't try and redirect the discussion that way. PEOPLE *thought* this was about his policies and turned something that was a positive message into a sandstorm. It's about his speech to US schoolkids - just just happens to have a good (I think) message. Unfortunately so many people have made such a big deal about this that they've painted themselves into a corner and now have to desperately TRY and find something....anything, to hold on to. In this case it's you trying your best to reach at straws regarding the use of the word 'I'. If you want to bring up racism, or any other nonsense - please understand you're the one trying to make it about that. Not "I" True, hate is probably too strong of a word to use, but it's hard not to think that some people hate him when their approach to this topic is so irrational. If you can never find the good in what someone is trying to do, under any circumstance, yeah....it might fall in (or be close to) *hate*. It's ludicrous. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  14. Does that tinfoil hat ever cut you? I mean....seriously....at some point can't you just give the man SOME credit for trying to actually do something NON-PARTISAN (ie stay in school and make something of yourself, be a better person, blah blah speech)? Hell, even if it's staged, totally phoney and he doesn't believe a word of it - the message is still a good one. Im all for rational discussion about a topic, but this is just ridiculous. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. Agreed. But when people have to find a reason to hate someone, no matter what, they'll reach for any straw. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. My teammate, Tommy, is teaching in Jumptown the 9th-14th of Sept (next week). Take the course, I'm postive you won't regret it :) Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. Oh sweet (even though it'll probably suck)
  18. Tom Dellibac has run two Flight-1 (aka Scott Miller) canopy courses at Jumptown (which I believe is your 'home' dz). Did you take any of them? Oftentimes a little bit of video feedback will really help a jumper get over this hump. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  19. Oh lordy Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. Dave was nice enough to mark me as a guest since the video camera broke on my speed run, and I was unable to complete the final 2 jumps because of time constraints. Not that it ultimately would have really mattered I suppose, I put down 3 zeros prior to that ps: You know I owned you in that speed run....stooopid video camera Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. I wanted to, but I have other coaching commitments that weekend. Have fun out there! Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. Awesome...I get to smell your farts all the way to Texas now too
  23. It sounds that way. Basically, instead of using the front riser to turn (ie pulling down), I use it as leverage so I can torque my body around 90 degrees. There's a really nice pic of JT doing it under a velo out there somewhere. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  24. While doing a military camp I was jumping a pd silhouette 170 @ 1.1 - it was quite effective at harness turns. It requires a different technique though, it's somewhat hard to explain online, but it's a torquing motion - similar to a "method" freestyle move. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  25. Ok you guys - let's cut it out. Remember, both of you, this isn't personal. Stick to discussing the video, or it's contents. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
