  4. You are correct for your option b scenario. However, it's worth noting that the forward speed increase is, relatively, minimal compared to the altitude loss. If you're in 30pm headwinds are just above a treeline and need fronts to clear it....you've made some pretty bad decisions leading up to that moment (including the decision to jump in those kinds of winds near tree lines - not to mention the turbulence a pilot can expect to find around objects/trees in the conditions you cite)
  5. We (the PD Factory Team), don't generally find this to be true, nor do we teach people to use fronts to cover ground in a headwind. We do find, however, that if the winds are so strong as to consider this approach, that fronts will get you out of the air faster, and thus spend less time subjected to moving with the airmass. Generally, in a strong headwind, full flight is your best option to cover the most ground. YMMV. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. That or the SV650 (which I have and LOVE). Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  7. Have you done a check, at altitude, to see how much slack you have in the brake lines before you start to deflect the tail? Performance Designs Factory Team

  9. Yes, often. The snaps are only there to assist keeping the slider in place while packing. They are totally optional. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. Because I totally mis-read what you were trying to say. DOH!
  11. What a ridiculous statement. Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. Don't worry, it only has to look good for 1 frame
  13. I've put a bunch of jumps (recently) on a Silhouette 170, 150 and Sabre 2 150. No doubt the Silhouette is a great canopy, but I really found the Sabre2 to be a far nicer canopy (for me), from opening all the way through to touchdown. I'd favor it over your recommendation. However, as always, different strokes for different folks
  14. Take it to PM's. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. It's a hard question to answer since it depends on a multitude of factors: wingloading, canopy size, canopy type, currency, etc. I think Chuck's response was most appropriate. Something docile, that you can spend time on focusing on building a solid foundation for higher performance canopy piloting. Right now, you should be working on your core skills - landing patterns, flare height and technique, etc. The more time you spend on these, the easier the other stuff becomes. 16. FYI removing a chest strap completely AFAIK, is a violation of competition rules. The belly band gets around this, but total removal is not allowed. This is true, at the least for US Nationals. Unsure about FAI ruling regarding this. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. There will be a Flight-1 canopy course taught by a PD Factory Team member at Skydive San Marco's this weekend (no, it's not me ) Slots are still available. Contact the DZ and ask after Terry Goode if you're interested. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

  21. The RAW scores are now multiplied by 1.666666666666667 instead of squared. Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. Yes. Previously the raw speed scores were squared, and then calculated as a percentage of the best score. Now the scores are multiplied by 5, divided by 3, and then calculated as a percentage of the best score. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  23. Only when I'm riding your mom...... Performance Designs Factory Team
  24. Yes. I believe the wording is being finalized, but the rules are confirmed for change. Performance Designs Factory Team
