Earplugs? Personal preference or a real reason?
ianmdrennan replied to 3mpire's topic in Safety and Training
After 3000+ jumps I just started wearing them. Really wish I'd started many years ago. I've noticed a slight decrease in my ability to hear certain frequencies in the last few years. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Who's to say PD hasn't experimented with a number of different combinations? I remember a while back, Icarus had a 11 cell prototype they never ended up taking to market. More cells != more performance. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Canopy Piloting Nationals Amateur vs. Open
ianmdrennan replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Attendance for Amateur is up and down, I've seen it as low as 3 but it was far better attended last year. AFAIK you don't *have* to do Amateur, but I think you're on the right track to attend that category. As for the competition, last year there were a number of really, really good pilots in the AM event. I think most of them have moved up to Pro's this year though, but competition is still stiff in that category -

" Flying through the opening"

This is what I do. I have all 4 in my hands (2 per hand), just below the toggles, and pull away from the center. No concerns about getting fingers trapped if it does spin up? Nah, not really. Note where I hold them (pretty low down). http://www.youtube.com/user/ianmdrennan#p/a/u/2/WwfTnCybrSo Performance Designs Factory Team -

Line twists with FX and Wings with "birdman option"
ianmdrennan replied to bofh's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not relevant with the Birdman option. to the OP: Make sure you leave plenty of line from your last stow. 2 things, on hop n pops (besides body position) are most likely to cause line twists on deployment: 1) Not leaving enough stow (I leave a lot) 2) Over rolling the tail. I don't roll my tail any more than 1 LOOSE roll. People have a misconception that tight tail rolls slow openings down - not true (unless you count the fact that they are more likely to keep proper slider placement with a tight roll). Getting back to DZ from a bad spot.
ianmdrennan replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
If you have the wind at your back, the deepest brakes you can without stalling. Rears, with the wind at your back FEEL faster because of the higher ground speed, but you'll ultimately cover more distance in the deepest brakes you can. Into a headwind, full flight (or if it's a slight headwind rears can be used). Performance Designs Factory Team -

Swoop Gone Wrong - The Aftermath
ianmdrennan replied to skybytch's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
And how much of their lives were spent submerged in the sport, or the feeder leagues? My guess is almost all of them. Not to mention the information they are constantly surrounded by (i.e coaching). Most skydivers don't start that young. True. However, MOST don't. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Are you sure about that? While I'd like to believe it's true, it's my experience that most people DO believe in a God holding the strings....Christian or otherwise. Performance Designs Factory Team

Yes, that is something you should think about. Since insulting anothers beliefs is what you are choosing to do today Why, it's the exact same thing he's doing. Expressing a belief. You're doing what you're criticizing him for. NO I am calling you on your insult to him If you find that insulting so be it He never aimed one comment at you YOU cant say the same 1) I didn't insult him. In fact, I commended him on gathering strength from that belief. 2) I don't find your post insulting, although I find your reaction laughable - and horribly misplaced. 3) If he wasn't aiming the comment at 'us', the collective forum, why did he post it here? 4) What I was actually commenting on, in the post you quoted, was your reaction to a poster that was exactly what you were accusing him of. You simply cannot state opinion as 'truth'. That much is a fact. It's no different than me posting "God doesn't exist". I can't prove, or disprove his existence. I can only offer my opinion on it. Sorry, but that's 100% opinion. Not to be confused with the truth. That said, if the opinion you expressed causes you to be a better person, then awesome and kudo's to you - there's nothing wrong with that. Performance Designs Factory Team
