  1. Packing areas are not becoming larger proportionally with increasing number of jumpers.
  2. I wouldn’t recommend to get into flat packing too much. It definitely helps the beginners to understand the structure of the canopy but it is a good idea to switch to pro-packing as soon as possible. I flat packed the student main 3 or 4 times and started to pro-pack my own main when I had 20 jumps. As far as instructions, I personally found that a few lessons from good packer help better than videos, on-line instructions and manufacturers recommendations. Look at people packing, look at different angles and ask as many questions as possible (but get their permission to ask questions in advance to make sure that you will not piss them off by talking too much )
  3. I think it depends on the size of the group.

    I'm a moron

I am too lazy to do a lot of cardio I usually run 5-10 min at very high speed to warm up and then start working out ...

    I'm a moron

Huh ... I stopped lifting 11 month ago, soon after I started to jump. Now I'm back again since I recently realized that one can not be a good skydiver if he's in bad or even 'OK' physical shape. First several times in gym were really humiliating since I used to weight 190 lbs and press 250lbs on bench and now I'm 178lb and can barely press 185 ... it's all coming back quickly though ...
  6. One should never stop improving this skill.
  7. Just curious. The whole idea of barrel rolling in track is to minimize the possibility of opening when someone is tracking right above you. Perhaps I am thinking wrong, but if someone tracks over my head, it tells me that I lost a lot of altitude after break off. In other words my tracking skills need to be improved. Now the question is should one try to barrel roll after every break off in order to have a better vision of what’s going on in his sector (possibly) or better concentrate on getting more lift and forward speed in order to improve his flat track? And another example related to separation issues: The guy goes low on 10-way skydive. He does his best trying to stay with the group until break off but then tracks poorly. I fly over his head with much greater forward speed leaving him behind. On the ground the guy complains that he had to go lower because I happened to be right above him at his pull altitude.

    High/Low

High: SkyFest Boogie started at SD Dallas Low: I won't be able to get there untill Sat afternoon
  9. The next time you see him, comment that you're surprised he wasn't killed in his car on the way to work this morning. After all, since he likes statistics, he should know that driving is *statistically* much more dangerous than skydiving. Make sure to tell him to be safe on his way home that evening, and that his work will be taken care of should something happen. Not true. Simply comparing the numbers of incidents is not correct.
  10. LOL ... sounds like a good idea
  11. My whuffo colleague is a very nice guy. He always informs me about skydiving incidents and frequently reminds that my projects will be taken care off if I go in. My whuffo colleague is familiar with math and statistics. He periodically calculates the probabilities of going in for certain jump numbers. Every Monday he looks at me and his eyes say: "Hm I am surprised you are still ok". My whuffo colleague saw the Good Staff and some RW videos. He even wanted to make a tandem jump at some point, but he decided not to after he called his mama and she warned him about the danger of jumping out of planes. I like my whuffo colleague. He makes a really good coffee.
  12. Same here. It felt really weird when I missed a jumping weekend few weeks ago due to work. And this is only after year in sport.
  13. A tandem first will help you relax a little more with the added experience. On your first AFF jump, where you actually have tasks to perform, that experience is a good thing. Besides, if something unexpected happens on your first jump, you can't get away from a tandem master. I was totally relaxed on AFF1 and brainlocked on AFF2
  14. It is probably hard to say 'yes, I knew for sure what I was doing before I got on that plane and did my first jump' but I still agree. My first jump was AFF and I still wonder how does it feel to be strapped to someone's body. Lots of people argue that it is safer to do a tandem first and become familiar with aircraft, exit and freefall. Well, I would say it is really personal. Nobody can guarantee that he/she will not freak out on first jump but do not forget that on AFF1 a student is assisted by two instructors specially trained to handle anything. Tandem is a fun ride. AFF is a first step in training to become a skydiver.
  15. Thaks I do plan to move to California but now I jump at Dallas.
  16. Unfortunately I did not completely understand your post but thanks a lot! ... Hm ... perhaps my English is not good enough
  17. Always wanted to move to California ...
  18. Can I be that somebody to explain ?
  19. Don't jumpt into very complicated dives until you biuld a good foundation for RW. People often design and dirt dive hot multiple point skydives that eventually turn into zoo due to problems with levels, proximity and eye contact.
  20. Best of Airspeed is my favorite one. You can watch this tape every day and never get bored and always learn something new..
  21. Vibe coming from Dallas. Heal fast.
  22. I suggest to try to use every chance to get on the load with experienced people. Drill dives are cool as long as you do them right which is difficult when you jump with buddy of yours whose experience is about the same. You will be amazed how much you can learn/improve when you jump with someone who knows what he/she is doing. Experienced RW jumper will point on mistakes that you don't even notice. For beginner it may be difficult to get on the load with good people, but be patient, show that you want to learn and very importantly, that you care about safety.
  23. Yup. We all had fun. I really liked his attitude and patience.
