  1. I wonder, if two jumpers appear to be on big formation load, and on break off jumper A leaves on first wave whereas jumper B leaves on second wave. Despite the delay between two waves there is still a theoretical possibility for jumper B (good tracker) to end up right above the jumper A (bad tracker) on pull time. Besides scanning the airspace, what would be the best strategy for jumper B to avoid this situation?
  2. I hope one day they will pay for my jumps too
  3. Huh .... how do you like that ? http://www.skydivelasvegas.com/experienced_jumpers.html[/url]
  4. Wouldn't it be nice if the same applies to jump tickets?
  5. The more I get to know skydivers the more I realize that we all not only have the same passion to the sport, but also share similar life philosophy. It is really amazing to read this forum and agree with most of you folks say with every turn of page.
  6. Why give up the happiness? You feel happy and balanced while at DZ, isn't it a good reason to stay ???
  7. How can you not loose them if you have less and less common interests? They invite you to go fishing and you refuse because you plan to go to DZ. They throw a party Saturday night and you don’t plan to show up because there will be night jumps this Saturday (very fresh example). Perhaps with time I will learn how to maintain the balance in life but now it is just not working.
  8. You are wise man Should really make more money ... not spend less ...
  9. Today I discovered a new form of influence of skydiving on my life. I just gave one hours presentation of annual progress at work that went very well. The funny thing is that while practicing the talk I caught myself thinking: "it is going be a piece of cake, just dirt dive it well and visualize on the way to the conference room" ....
  10. There was a tandem fatality at Hawaii several month ago ...
  11. I personally think that there is no need to actively try to convince whuffo's to make a jump because the majority of them will not do it anyway. I used to scream to the whole world about skydiving after I passed AFF and got my A license. Now I try to avoid talking about skydiving in public places (especially with new people). When you start taking skydiving seriously you realize that learning and physical and mental training never stops. Talking to whuffo's about jumping is basically answering the set of the same questions over and over again, which I personally find a little annoying. Wait until you get 100 jumps and will probably feel the same
  12. Welcome I am not an AFF instructor yet, but I will try to answer using some common sense. It is better to stick to one place because it is easier for both and your instructors to guide you trough the whole course. For many people AFF is tense because every level is exam. You don't really want to add new variables such as new people, new landing area and new planes before you at least graduate. Also starting at one place and then going to different dz will probably cost more since there is a higher chance that you will be asked to repeat some levels.
  13. The best way to learn is to ask a current packer to show you how to do it. I didn't learn anything new from Pack like a pro after one good lesson from our packer (Thanks Victoria ). I think you should really see the canopy from the angle you normally see it when you pack. This is particularly important for understanding how to deal with the lines when you PRO pack. It is also nice to have experienced person watching you pack and pointing at mistakes 'on-line'. Give that $20 to the packer and you will be amazed how much you will learn.
  14. Once, when winds gusted from 10 to 42mph and than down to about 30. Several people exited but we decided to ride the plane down (and it was a fun ride). I jumped at 32 mph wind when I had about 50 jumps and A license. Today I can truly admit that it was one of the stupidest things I have ever done. My personal limit now is 30 mph if it is steady.
  15. Wise. I have to admit that I was surprised a few times by nice openings after extremely sloppy packing.
  16. When time is running out and you rig is not packed there is always a choice between packing in a hurry and doing it carefully but skipping the load. It would be interesting to have some statistics for packing attitudes.
  17. Yesterday, after making several jumps including one on sloppiest pack job I ever had I was finally scared on busy highway diving back to Dallas. Seeing all these drunken idiots speeding and cutting you off without any reason on Saturday night often makes me think that skydiving is less dangerous than driving. But this impression is wrong since correct statistical analysis suggests the opposite.
  18. I disagree In crowded places it is much faster and easier to PRO pack
