I believe the best way to learn is to go from simple to complex. 2-way and 4-way formations are the basic biulding blocks.

you can download IPC dive pool at www.omniskore.com dive pool is a list of formations used for competitions. It does not explain the slots and some other important principles. The best way to learn the principles of RW is to watch the videotapes Airspeed 4'99 (there were some changes in dive pool after the tape was released, but it is still good learning tool) The best of Airspeed Mind Maps Magics also have brand new DVD.

I am afraid there will be a lot of BS in a list like that, because it will be flooded with advice from people who do not know sh!t but believe they know a lot. There are always experienced people with good attitude at your DZ or at dz.com. Listening to them is more rewarding than trying to select the truth from the "list of skydiving wisdom"

How many of you DON'T wear altimeters?

In case you are not aware of famous dytter-involved incident happened several years ago to famous 4-way team, look at Documented Cypress saves http://www.pia.com/SSK/saves02b.htm -
Right on! Lets build one in Arlington The only problem is where to find people willing to invest several millions.

I do believe that everyone has a right to make a choice in any situation. But making choices when you are in military will never be as simple as making choices when you are civilian. And yes, I did serve.

Nice checklist The only I would do differenly is cocking PC before you flake the canopy and put in into d-bag.

Hm ... it is too late this year, but for the 2004 ... what a great idea for a Christmas present for me too.

If I had less than 100 jumps, got a pull signal on pro-track and was not sure how high I was on solo jump, I would immediately waive off and pull. In general it is a good idea to set the first two warning altitudes 2-300 hundred feet lower than a planned break-off and pull-time in order not to learn to rely on pro-track. It is also a good idea to turn Pro-track and Cypress on BEFORE boarding the plane, at '0' altitude

LOL posting this in a public forum has a greater impact than just a group e-mail ...

Do not forget about Perris. http://www.skydiveperris.com/tunnel/tunnel.asp Huh .. they gotta give me some discount now At Orlando SkyVenture you can do Airspeed, NSL and SkyVenture camps. I believe either one is fine if you need to work on basic skills. Experienced jumpers frequently snick in to do some time without a coach (which is much cheaper, an our of tunnel time is about $600) but I would not recommend to do it if you are beginner. You spend more for a coached camp but you also learn more. It is also very helpful to visit a tunnel before you actually do a camp (it is open for everybody) and to look at experienced people flying. You will learn a lot about techniques and also small tricks that will make your training more efficient. Be careful though, a tunnel is addictive like a drug.

Some things that will make you a better skydiver
Mad47 replied to Ron's topic in Safety and Training
Last season I was coached by two very experienced and talented people who use absolutely opposite approaches when they teach/explain something. I have to admit that it took me some time to get used to the "bad cop’s" comments comments like "you do not have any ideas what you are doing with your bodies in freefall" or "...and you funneled the exit". At some point I was very close to replying "who the f... are you to talk to me like that? I am not in military anymore" However, with time I realized that I am becoming a better skydiver no matter if I like my coaches tone or not. After all, in most of the cases we are being taught for free so we better f...ing listen! -

I think that's a good indication of the progress Thanks for the post. -
what's the lowest you've ever exited?

hm ... what was the airspeed of the aircraft? PC? Slider? -
That is a very bad advice. Can get yourself and the others into big trouble ... Think before you post

What kind of main canopy was it? -
Hm ... I think now I understand why were funneling the chunks on almost every first training jump or the day last season

If I had to buy a used rig and choose between 1993 Javelin with 50 jumps on it or 2003 Javelin with 1000 jumps, I would choose the first one (assuming that the "older" rig was stored properly).

Go through 1 to Q taking imaginary grips and you will entertain yourself and bystanders

Agree. I used to train/work with German sheperds in military and spent most of my childhood next to all kinds of hunting dogs. It is much easier to deal with trained dog (if you know how to do it) In most of the cases I will probably calm down any dog trying to attack without using force but if time is limited and the god is in very aggressive mood it is better to escape or shoot.
