I don't remember how the Colorado law is written, there is one in CA that is like the CO one... However this link kind of sums up the point I was trying to make in that statement. http://www.morrisonmahoney.com/publications/Ski%20Resort%20Liability.pdf You would have a better understanding on these matters then us non lawyer types. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

The fact that USPA would cater to such demands to stupid to start with, for the simple fact that 16yr olds have been making first jumps for many years in all forms of progression. (pre & post TDM) I was one of many of them, starting in 1983. And I know a great deal of jumpers who started at age 14, it was not all that uncommon. Our guidance (BSR's) should reflect or be more in line with the FAA policies on flight training by age, end of story. You want others to provide facts about USPA.... I have yet to see a list of all the lawsuits that have been filed in the USA by a minors parent after signing the weaver, or minors who turn into legal adults, and then sue a dz for allowing them to jump with notarized parental or guardian consent. I'm betting that there are very few cases of this happening. Has it in the past, I'm sure there have been a few..... as in VERY FEW! There is no reason a mature (not all are @ 16) youth should not be allowed to make a jump via S/L or AFF or for that matter a tandem jump. In fact I favor allowing the minimum age for a S/L jump to be 14 yrs old, the same as it is for solo flight in a sailplane! The fact that USPA made this change a few meetings ago to cater to equipment mfg's is total bullshit IMHO and USPA needs to get back to being focused on the membership and not a dzo trade org. and maybe start trying to lobby in DC for a change in the legal outlook on skydiving, much like a ski area is protected by law if your 14 or 16 yr old hits a tree and dies or is a cripple for life..... It's a known risk all willing except when they buy a lift ticket and is protected by law. With all the skydiving lawyers we have around I would think maybe if they all got together and joined forces with the BOD, maybe we could see that legal issue solved. Oh but it's much too easy to just pass a BSR and solve the problem that way. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea I remember, my bitching comment, said, "all those in the industry bitching".... not "all of you in this thread bitching" In the last 25 yrs, it has been my exp. that those who bitch the most about a strong ALS tandem D-bag and using them un-sewn or for having to sew them, have not been problem solvers on the dz, they are the ones who spend useless energy bitching about shit and very little to any time devoted to lending a hand to solve problems, there for they make more problems for those who regularly work hard running the dz and solving problems. There has always been 3 simple things you could do to make it a non issue, not even worthy of a poll IMHO, none of them require much time or effort. 1. Call Strong and order sewn shut bags, for what they charge for them, you should get your ass kissed with a thank you and one of those little mint squares. 2. use them as is with the velcro and replace as needed for little time/cost. 3. Sew them shut and move on Problem solved. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Most members have little to no clue how much crap Randy Ottinger deals with every day in regards to keeping us skydiving or getting new places on the map. As Tom can tell you, it takes chest waders & a snorkel. @ Tom, congrats on your new dz, nice to hear a non hassle access story for a change. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Um, no, his smart enough to order the bags the way he wants them, or if he forgets too, he sews them shut, I have never seen him bitch about them before, or now.... un-like a great deal of people. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

The idea is you place the S folded canopy on the laid out (open) bag and then wrap the top over it and mat the sides together. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

And another thing.... for all the fucking people I see/hear in this industry bitching about strong tandem D-bags.... have any of you people ever picked up the damn phone and tried to call and speak to Ted and ask him to build you and send you custom sewn sided d-bags? I bet not, because I bet if you would have you might have gotten them made for you... hell call down there right now 407-859-9317 and ask for Mike Rinaldi if he don't answer the line in person, and then ask him if they make you a bag like that... you state your case to them! Other wise quit bitching about it already and keep sewing them shut. I have found nothing a great bunch of people who really do seem to give a shit and will go the extra mile to help someone who is doing business with them, that has always been my personal experience in dealing with Strong Ent. Have they done some shit I might bitch about in my deals, YES, did they always make it right or make it up down the road... HELL YES! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea all 6 DHT's have new d-bags with un-sewn velcro side flaps. They don't get in my way packing I use them as designed. Oh and when the velcro wears out to the point it won't hold I'll spend about 30 mins picking stitches while watching TV or my kid play and then spend about 10 mins sewing on thirty cents worth of new velcro and while I'm at it, I'll fix any little wear issues I find on the bag before returning to service. I keep my riggers kit locked, but in the packing area if I need it and I fix and maintain the gear as needed when packing after each jump, it only takes an extra second to do it and do it right.... IMHO. For the record, I can pack using sewn d-bags too, no problem, but mine are not sewn for a reason, I like them that way! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

The only people who sew them shut are to lazy to replace the worn velcro in the rigging loft, because after all 1/2 hour and 30 cent velcro is to much cost and time to maintain the gear. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

When the velcro is new and maintained it is great IMHO, I like them better then the sewn shut ones. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Ya know, I've seen a lot of in air rigging being done before, but I'll be damn if I've ever seen anyone try in an air harnessing of a student act........ Now we can see why that never really took off as the "in thing" in student progressions. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
