Our dz is about a 50/50 split for top and side mounts. I think it really comes down to personal prefference. I like top mount better myself because the weight feels centered, I don't have to worry about riser strikes, and when I am shooting something under canopy I don't get my risers in the frame when I look to the left. To me the only disadvantage to top mounting is having to stay low on climbout to keep from hitting the camera on the door or wing but thats really not a big deal. Have fun and be safe. Skydive Radio

I use an Optik for all kinds of flying. Freefly, RW, and Tandem. I don't really see the necessity to change mounting angles for freeflying vs. Tandem or RW. Mine is set up at 0 degrees and works fine for all. You may want to have a wider lense for Freefly vs. Tandem but that is cake to change. Skydive Radio

I asked the guy at the photo store today why the Kodak Premium processing costs so much more. He showed me paired pictures taken with the same settings but different processing. You could really tell the difference with the more expensive processing, much better/truer color. He then told me the reason is that when you buy the more expensive processing there is someone actually looking at each frame and making sure it is the correct exposure or whetever (I don't understand all this stuff yet) and when you get the cheaper processing it is all just "averaged" by a machine. My question is, if I get the cheaper processing done and find a shot I really like, can I get it blown up or re-printed with the more expensive processing and get the same quality result even though the negatives were developed at Wallmart or Osco? Don't the negatives just go through a chemical wash and rinse? The exposure on the negative is done by the camera right? So wouldn't their developing process be the same anywhere? Skydive Radio

To me thats kind of like shooting inside RW footage. I guess it might be better than nothing...but not much better. I wish I lived in Key West. Sounds like a fun job for somebody if you can really get 600-700 paying jumps a year. Skydive Radio

I have come to the same conclusion. The Elan 7e has several cool little extras and is more durable, however, the only thing it has over the Rebel TI in freefall is slightly faster film advance(4 fps to the Rebel TI's 2.5 fps). To me it was not worth the extra size and weight(the Elan 7e body is almost 60% heavier than the Rebel TI). The Elan also costs about $150 more. I just picked up a brand new Rebel TI with a Canon 28mm to 90mm lense for $299.00. Add another $175 for a 28mm 2.8 fixed and I'm jumping brand new, lightweight equipment for under $500.00. I figure if I really get into a lot of ground photography I can always buy an Elan body down the road. Someone said the Elan has higher shutter speeds? The Rebel TI goes up to 1/2000th of a second. How fast does the Elan go? Skydive Radio

What a great site! I love that I can see all the settings you used. Very very cool. Thanks, I will visit often. Skydive Radio

That all makes good sense. Thanks Brent. Skydive Radio

After doing some research I think I will probably go with the Rebel TI. It seems that the Elan 7 is a better camera in that it is built a bit more rugged and it can take 4 FPS as opposed to the Rebel TI's 2.5 FPS. But the Elan 7 weighs in at 20.5 oz and the Rebel TI is only 12.9 oz and is also a bit smaller than the Elan 7. Does it seem like a good trade off to give up 1.5 FPS for a camera that is a bit smaller and weighs 7.6 oz less? Skydive Radio

Hook you camera up to your vcr with the rca jacks going into the vcr out jacks. Then turn your camera to vcr mode and pres record pause on your camera. On my Trv-30 there are 2 little buttons beside each other and you have to push them at the same time. You will see a red dot on your camcorder screen when you are recording and I think it flashes or turns green when you are in pause. Now you just play your vcr and record on your camera and you have digitized your old vcr. Hope this helps. Skydive Radio

Are there other differences between the Rebel and Elan other than size and fps? Skydive Radio

Looking at buying a still camera. What are everyones thoughts on the Rebel series vs. the Elan series? I see the Elan 7 can take 4 frames per second and the fastest of the Rebel series is the Rebel TI at only 2.5 frames per second. Thought this might be important for exit and opening shots. Thoughts? The Skydance SkyCam IS a Canon Elph LT. Was it something different in the past? Has anyone jumped one? Any feedback on the Elph LT? Skydive Radio

The option you want to use is "Print to tape". There is also an option called "Print to video" but I think that is for sending the finished movie to a vcr. "Print to tape" should send it back to your camera in digital form. Skydive Radio

***I think I heard of this "Shorty" guy... Didn't he jump with some WORLD FAMOUS parachute demo team? In fact I once heard a story about him being carried into a bar at OshKosh dressed as Elmo...some big polish guy carried him in, then had back surgery... [\quote] The big Polish guy may have thought he was "world famous", but the strippers knew better. Skydive Radio

The Bonehead Optik would leave you with a flat top, but if you ever wanted to add stills down the road you might be glad you had it. It's also very comfortable. Skydive Radio

Shorty was great guy. How did you know him? Skydive Radio

I just saw a segment on tech tv on it. It looks like a pretty nice program for basic editing. It has quite a few transitions and several special effects as well as the ability to compress to many different file formats or work with .avi files. It probably does not have some of the higher end features like Premier or Final Cut though. On the show they said it may be offered free as part of Windows XP. Skydive Radio

I would be glad to replace it with one of your ringsights if you would like to make a donation. Skydive Radio -
What is Ray of Light? Never heard of it. Skydive Radio

Don't know anything about it...but why are you wanting to switch? Are you not happy with premier? Skydive Radio

Did you see that it can only hold 2 minutes of video and that is at 10 frames per second. I think the real dv cameras are at just under 30 frames per second. I would guess that 10 fps would be pretty shotty video. Skydive Radio

I use a UV filter on my camera for the same reason. If you scracth it your only out $10, and it has threads on both ends so I can put my wide angle lens right on top of the filter. Skydive Radio
