Just talked to a buyer at B&H and he said that Tiffen is only the distributer for Stroboframe and that if they do go out of business someone else will step up and take their place. He made it sound like there was nothing to worry about as far as future availability of Stroboframe products. Skydive Radio

Not totally sure, but I think the compatibility issues are when trying to firewire from camera to camera (ie. IP style to miniDV style). Skydive Radio

I have heard that people who have experimented with them have complained about problems with depth perception and prefer to use a normal ringsight. Skydive Radio

I run an AMD processor at 1.2 ghz and only have 256 mg of ram. Premiere 6.5 and after effects 6 both run just fine on my machine. Some of the video effects take some time to render, but other than that it works quite well. Skydive Radio

That's exactly how I was thinking it should be set up. Still happens in real time and no quality loss. Skydive Radio

You go to VHS and then to DVD? Why would you not go straight to DVD to avoid the quality loss? Am I missing something here? Skydive Radio

Paragear is advertising Strobframe quick releases in this months Parachutist for...brace yourself...$95.00! Thats more than 50% higher than B&H. Skydive Radio

That sounds about right. Skydive Radio

I use Premiere 6.5 from Adobe and really like it. It takes a bit to learn but there are a lot of good Premiere "how to" books available and once you figure it out it's worth the time spent. It has all the basic features like transitions, video effects and audio effects and also has some higher end features such as compositing, keying and color correction that you won't find in most of the lower end software. Only downside is the price, but now that Premiere Pro has been released you may be able to pick up 6.5 for less. I think it used to run around $600 but sometimes you can find a video capture card in the $300 range that comes bundled with Premiere. Skydive Radio

Does it have a lanc port? Skydive Radio

If you capture the video at normal speed you can unlink the audio, then change the speed of the video in Premiere and you will have no problems. A speed of about 70-80% will give you close to the same look as your Sony camera running in slow-motion. Just right click on the video clip in your timeline, select speed, and change it to whatever percentage you want. If you get below 50% it will start to look pretty shoddy. Skydive Radio

I archive and log everything. Never tape over anything except tandems. The logging is almost more important than saving the tapes. I have about 24 hours of skydiving tape and without a log I would not be able to find anything. Skydive Radio

Barnes and Noble carries a book called "Teach Yourself Adobe Premiere 6.5 in 24 Hours" It's about $30 and worth every cent. It is broken up into sections so if you have some experience you don't have to waste your time on the basics and can jump to more advanced lessons. Or if you have never used an NLE you can start from chapter one and baby step your way through it. Great book. Skydive Radio

Times are changing. People are more picky about their equipment because they can be. Manufacturers offer more and more options every year, and someone on the dropzone is always going to want the latest, coolest, most tricked out thing available. Personally, I'm with you. I could really care less if my jumpsuit has patches on the knee, or my camera helmet gets scratched up. Function is all that really matters to me. However, to some people it is really important for their stuff to look just right. Whatever. That doesn't mean you have to think that way. I understand that it can be annoying to listen to someone whine because the color is not what they wanted etc., but if you choose to sell gear then you better get used to it cause it's not gonna go away. You can bake the whole helmet on a Mindwarp, Optik or Gunner. All other BH helmets you bake the liner only. Skydive Radio

I like mine. It is a comfortable lightweight camera helmet. Nice to have the option of side or top mount. If you go with top mount video and want to add stills you will have to add a bracket to hang the still camera on front. Not that big a deal. Only downside to me is that there is no room to add additional cameras or flashes. For that the FTP would be a better choice. Skydive Radio

It has been there for quite some time and I really don't understand why it was deemed so important. It belongs in the gear and rigging forum anyway. Skydive Radio

Good video editing and capturing program fro the PC?
diverds replied to 321seeya's topic in Photography and Video
For editing on the PC Premiere is the way to go. It might take you a bit longer to learn, but you will be glad you did. Its flexibility and options are well worth the time it will take you to learn the program, and that really wont be that bad. There are several really good Premiere books available at Barnes and Noble that will speed the learning process. Then again, if you are only looking to fairly basic stuff you might be happy with Pinnical or Ulead. They are simple to use and much cheaper than Premier. Skydive Radio -
I use a Vidionics Titlemaker 2000 with a seperate audio mixer and a couple of mp3 players. Works well for me. You can run titles and basic fades and wipes pretty easily. It is also pretty small and portable which is nice for boogies. You could have a complete setup for under $500 if you shop around a bit. -Dave Skydive Radio

How much was the software? Whats the difference between Premiere Pro and Premiere 6.5? Skydive Radio

I believe he said his camera does not have dv in. If he can not use firewire he is left with buying a capture card that supports analog in. Skydive Radio
-
Your are going to need a capture card with analog in. Some of the primary capture card manufacturers are Canopus, Matrox and Pinnacle. All their capture cards have firewire and most of them have at least some analog input and output plugs. Hope this helps. Skydive Radio

Hey Mark, How's things in SD? Did you get the kit or just the rebel body? What lense are you using? Skydive Radio

I tend to avoid auto focus on these types of shots for that very reason. Edit for quote. Skydive Radio

Brent, Can you describe "varying degree of "blemished""? What does a "blemished" sight look like and how does it affect it's use? Skydive Radio
