  1. Ya know... THere are treatment courses available for your HOMOPHOBIA! Either... We can go the "Conditioning" route, where you're gradually exposed to Homosexuality in very mild forms, gradually building up to meeting, and ultimately socialising with Homosexuals without becoming distressed.
  2. I'm pretty sure likearock already posted the definition of projection in one of these threads, so I will merely note that your response is a definitive example thereof. rl Edited to add: It's just a few posts upthread of this one. Perhaps; however, I'm not the one resorting to foul language and personal attacks, which are the first refuge of one who cannot reason. You haven't resorted to foul language, although your language is certainly colorful and emotive. Regardless of whether your posts are considered personal attacks in the context of these forums, they are, without a doubt, personal attacks... Damn. I just realized what I did. Talk about not paying attention. Sheesh, I'm an idiot. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  5. Well, that was certainly non-responsive to my question. But I don't believe in your God anyway, so it's all good. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  6. Are all homosexuals effeminate, Bill? And given that women are effeminate by definition, are all members of my sex to be turned away from the Kingdom of God? This isn't a religious argument; that's another thread. If you want to argue sexual practices from the Bible, you're going to have a lot of explaining to do, and this is not the place to do it. The kinds of sexual relationships of which God does approve are kind of appalling, and, at least in this country, largely illegal or at the very least, the cause of a heated letter to Dear Abby. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 8. You still do! You know you do. I know your not the type of person to disslike someone for expressing their views, much the same way i'm not. You may not like their views, but you tolerate them, based on my experience from reading your posts. The issue here is not one of expressing one's views; it is the fact that you're not expressing your views about an issue but about a person. I have already discussed one thing that sends me into orbit. This is the other one. There are specific times when I argue "the man" instead of "the issue"--when I have seen "the man" do it first to someone else or when s/he does it to me. That still doesn't make it right--it's a fallacy with a Latin name of its very own--and I have taken my well-deserved beating for it every time. Just be aware that I agree with Narcimund unequivocally in everything he has written here (except our minor disagreement about ignorance), and that I only dream of expressing myself as well as he does. The point is that in making these assertions about him, you're as good as making them about me too. How much would you like me if I'd said those things about you? rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  9. In this we differ. I know/have known quite a few mentally ill people, and I have no issue. Most of them are/were friends of mine. A psychopath, by definition, is not mentally ill. I've known you for about 11 years, Walt. There's a lot about which we don't agree and some about which we do. It's never mattered before, so I can't imagine it's going to matter next week, next month, next year. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  12. Remember me telling you that you are an angry person? Well until you come to grips with this i really don't think you'll get past it trying to force your agenda on others. Remember the meds, and counseling i advised you to get? Now you've added evil to anger, it really makes the issue far more complex than it originally was. That man said nothing that was evil in my opinion. C'mon, lighten up. When you go off on these tirades, it makes you look as if your the one who has the ass for "breeders? I'm quite sure your a very intelligent person with lots to offer. I also believe your a very likeable person, but your pent up frustration is getting in your way. No one is bashing you, no one hates you, and i haven't noticed any militants in the area. First of all, you are arguing the man not the issue. Argue the issue. Second of all, you're a suicidal nut case. You jump out of airplanes so you must have a death wish. You are irresponsible, without a care for your family, because you endanger their welfare and your community because you attempt to recruit others to this frivolous and dangerous activity. You need to come to grips with what is obviously a deranged mental state before you hurt someone. I'm sure that once you do, you'll be a very likable person with lots to offer. (I was driving in the car one day, and I somehow got tuned into Dr. Laura on the radio. That's the gist of what she said about skydiving, IIRC.) 16. Neither the "iron fist" model nor the "do what you want" model are very successful with children. They need...even crave...limits, but they also need room to grow and make choices if they're to be useful adults. A lot has been written on this subject, and I would advise any parent who is having a problem to get some professional help to work it out. Parents need to walk a fine line; the consequences last a lifetime. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  17. Are you an idiot? More seriously, as I posted in the other thread, an idiot suffers from ignorance. I hope the repost police don't get me: Ignorance is a lack of knowledge, or a willful lack of desire to improve the efficiency, merit, effectiveness or usefulness of one's actions. [emphasis supplied] For example, there are at least two people is at least one person posting in the "other" thread who are is not on "my side" of the argument. I don't think they're idiots he's an idiot, even though they have both he has posted some things to which I most assuredly object. On the other hand, there was at least one person in that thread who appeared ignorant in the first sense, but when presented with evidence contrary to his deeply held beliefs, he at least tried to find some way to reconcile it, even if the attempt was somewhat inelegant. I don't think he got the appreciation he deserved for the effort he made. rl Edited to reflect an error in judgment on my part. 18. With all due respect, I disagree. Ignorance is sometimes curable. Uncooperativeness is not. I believe that McAdoo intended it in the second sense below, which is pretty much what you wrote and what I mean also: Ignorance is a lack of knowledge, or a willful lack of desire to improve the efficiency, merit, effectiveness or usefulness of one's actions. [emphasis supplied] There's a lot of that around here. Lack of knowledge is curable. Refusal of knowledge is not. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 19. Think about what you wrote, Walt. It's okay for other people to have their set of prejudices, but my particular set mystifies you? I'm not prejudiced against entire groups based on the inborn characteristics of that group. I'm not even prejudiced for or against a particular religion. I am, however, extremely judgmental about the individual members of those groups who judge others based on inborn characteristics or their religion or lack thereof. (For the record, I consider one's sexuality to be inborn.) It is merely a matter of self-preservation to avoid psychopaths at all cost. Ask anyone in the criminal justice system or the mental health profession, and they'll tell you the same thing. But here's what I'm really judgmental about: people who believe that they have the right to control others who do not meet with their approval, when those others are doing no harm to anyone, by word or deed. I can't stop anyone from expressing whatever asinine (in my opinion) point of view they may hold, but I can choose to not associate with people who hold asinine (in my opinion) points of view. I can also let them know exactly what I think of their asinine (in my opinion) points of view when I'm given the opportunity. 20. Hi Mike, I'm sorry it took so long to get to this, but it has been a busy day. No. Not at all. Zeno notwithstanding, all paradoxes are linguistic; they don't exist in the real world. Eventually, you will reach the finish line. You have no reason to self-loathe. You just need to find new words to describe your intolerance of intolerance, and you'll be right as rain. Your assignment is a 10 page, typewritten, single-spaced essay, and I'll expect it on my desk in the morning. In keeping with the current standards, your grade will be based 95% on grammar and spelling and 5% on content. Think of it this way. For at least the next 12 hours, you'll be too busy writing about synonyms to even think about hating yourself. And this would be the secret reason for your assignment above--I'm a vengeful bitch. But smartass that you are, I will answer you anyway, because it dovetails quite nicely with my feelings about this thread. I have no problem with people believing in God or even believing that the Judeo-Christian Bible is the literal word of God. I draw the line, however, at those who choose to proselytize to me. (Although I must admit that a few weeks ago I let a really nice lady at work witness to me because it made her joyful to do so. It was not a work of conversion; she just wanted me to know how God had changed her life. As to my non-belief, she smiled gently and told me she would add me to her prayers. I can handle that.) What I don't get, what I will never get, is the people who think they have a right to dictate how someone else should live, because that person's life choices are repellent to them. It would be one thing if the control-freak could make a case for harm to someone besides the person s/he is trying to control, but I've never met anyone who can give a good reason why another person should live by his/her rules. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 21. I can't tell you what portion of the population believes, but I can give you some factual information on pedophilia and homosexuality: http://rainbowallianceopenfaith.homestead.com/PedoMyth.html The above page also links to the entire text of The Gay Manifesto, as well as to another link explaining how it has been misused. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1556756&dopt=Abstract The above abstract is just another study showing the non-connection between homosexuality and pedophilia. The following article cites no statistics, but it is on point: http://www.joekort.com/articles50.htm To call child molestation of a boy by a man "homosexual” or of a girl by a man "heterosexual" is to misunderstand pedophilia. No true pedophile is attracted to adults, so neither homosexuality nor heterosexuality applies. In reality, abuse of boys by gay pedophiles is rare, and the abuse of girls by lesbians is rarer still. The fact that I was molested by men is irrelevant in this context, but for the record, they were heterosexual. More on point, the woman who molested me was not a lesbian. The neighbor who offered a great deal of support to me throughout some very difficult times in my childhood, however, is a lesbian. She never tried to "convert" me, nor did she behave toward me in any way that was inappropriate with a child. I wrote the other day that I do not sit here posting with smoke coming out of my ears, and that although what I write may sound angry at times, it's stylistic, not a matter of feeling. For this thread, I take that back. I am smokin'. I know it's a waste of my time (see sig below), but I find this discussion about as offensive as it gets. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  22. If blacks were wrongly associated by the public with child molestors, then it certainly would be in their best interest to do so. But they are not, so it is not relevant. But black people ARE wrongly associated by the public with crime and drugs. So should all black skydivers change their sig line to "Even though I'm black I don't steal or deal cocaine"? Should all professional writers change their sig lines to "Even though I'm a journalist, I'm not a lying, plagiarizing, inventor of 'facts'"?
