  2. I was around 5 years old. I ran and hid behind the television...not because they were having sex, but because I knew that I was going to be in trouble for opening the door. (There were no locks, so they'd pushed the dresser up against it.) In retrospect, it's kind of amazing. That was 1963, and my mother was on top. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  3. It was more than three hours. You call that fast? Dude, if you'll invest in a spellchecker, I want your body. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  4. God, i can't stand rl !!! She's the voice of reason, and i want to be unreasonable! J/K! I like you too, even though there are times I'd like to beat you with a stick. Edited to add: That goes double for you, Walt. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  5. You seemed to be obsessed with the idea that people who dissagree with your lifestlyle HATE you. He belongs to a group that has been legislated against and persecuted. Is it obsessive to understand the reality of a situation? Why should anyone's approval of his lifestyle be required? The other side of that is that disapproval is even more unnecessary, but it is the disapproval of straights that has led to the persecution and legislation against gays. I don't see any lashing out in anger. We all argue the issues we believe in. Why is your issue or my issue any more worthy or any less "obsessive" than his? Should someone have to "catch more flies with honey" over something that should be a matter of right--to choose the way one will live, as long as it doesn't interfere with the way anyone else lives? And if you would like to say that the portrayal of gays in the media does interfere with the way you live, then you're going to have to agree that the portrayal of straights in the media interferes with the way gays live, so just don't go there. I don't see gays trying to convert anyone, but there are certainly those who think it is possible to "cure" gays. Given everything he has said, why would he want to? He doesn't seem to have an opinion of your sexuality, and he doesn't seem to care who you have sex with. It's his sexual orientation that keeps coming under the microscope, not yours. So why do you need to have an opinion about his? There's a lot of projection going on here. He makes some of the clearest and most cogent arguments of anyone I've ever seen on these forums--on all subjects, not just this one--and all I see him getting back is condescension, fallacy and mishegoss. I shouldn't have even responded to this because his reply is going to be a helluva lot better than mine, but I can't stand it that you don't appreciate one of the rare few flying minds in your midst. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 9. I just tried to write a post explaining it all. It confused me, so I gave up. Some things just aren't worth the effort it takes to comprehend them. This is one of those things. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  10. You do? I guess I'm outed. Actually, I want "the rest of you" to stop thinking that you have the right to dictate to anyone how he or she will live. You are welcome to your sexual orientation. You are not welcome to impose your beliefs on anyone else. Not the Judeo-Christian God. But sin is defined as a transgression of a religious or moral law, especially when deliberate. Note "moral law." What does that have to do with God? Oh dear. What does cloning have to do with AI? Anyway, as I said, some gays use artificial insemination, just as a large segment of the infertile straight population does. Is it okay with you if straights use the technique to have children? 12. It's not for me to speak for Alex, but I'm going to take up the cudgel on his behalf anyway, mostly because he's just going to fuck with you until you look like a total flaming moron, and I really think you're neither stupid nor ill-meaning. He isn't a white person mocking black people, he's an Englishman mocking a USian. Big difference. And he feels threatened by no one, although I've tried. As to his avatar, if he used his real face, he'd never get anything done for the women beating down his door. As for "nigger" for the dog's name, what part of "this movie is historical in nature and that was the dog's real name" don't you understand? I hate the "n" word, and I don't associate by choice with those who use it or words like it in a pejorative sense. On the other hand, I'm not willing to write off the scores of black rap artists as racist even if you are. Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. Revisionism makes it possible for us to go on doing the same stupid fucked-up things over and over again. Allowing this generation and those that come after to remain ignorant of how bad things used to be is not going to be good for anyone. This is the way it happened. And no matter how politically incorrect you think it, it's still the way it was. So now, just because I feel like it, a little Lenny Bruce, my favorite all-time comedian: Across the street from Off Broadway, Dick Gregory was headlining the hungry i. Like Chaplin, Fields, Lenny, and Erwin Corey, Greg was another American comic turned social critic. Greg and I walked in on the middle of Lenny's show; he had never heard Lenny. Spotting Greg, Lenny peered at the audience for an unnerving interval: "Are there any niggers here tonight?" Greg stiffened like a retriever, with the rest of the audience. In 1962, nobody had ever heard that word on stage, not in a white nightclub. Lenny began a mock soliloquy: "Ohmygod, did you hear what he said? 'Are there any niggers here tonight?' Is that rank! Is that cruel! Is that a cheap way to get laughs? Well, I think I see a nigger at the bar talking to two guinea owners, and next to them are a couple of wops, one kike, two greaseballs, a squarehead, three gooks, one frog, two limeys, a couple of sheenies, two jigaboos, one hunkey, fonky boogie - bid 'em up! Bid 'em up! Six more niggers! I pass with two dykes, four kikes, and eight niggers!" The once frozen audience now gave way to hysteria, the sweet laughter of liberation only Lenny could unloose: "Now, why have I done this? Is this only for shock-value? Well, if all the niggers started calling each other 'nigger,' not only among themselves, which they do anyway, but among the ofays. If President Kennedy got on television and said: 'I'm considering appointing two or three of the top niggers in the country into my cabinet' - if it was nothing but nigger, nigger, nigger - in six months 'nigger' wouldn't mean any more than 'goodnight,' 'God bless you,' or "I promise to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God - when that beautiful day comes, you'll never see another nigger kid come home from school crying because some ofay motherfucker called him a nigger." Gregory turned to me: "This man is the eighth wonder of the world. You have to go back to Mark Twain to find anything remotely like him. And if they don't kill him, or throw him in jail, he's liable to shake up this whole fuckin' country." A year later, Gregory published his book Nigger dedicated to "Dear Momma - Wherever you are, if you ever hear the word 'nigger' again, remember they are advertising my book." 15. Bait and switch. That's not what you said the first time. Still: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0722_040722_gayanimal.html Just for your edification, gay parents are by no means non-existent. Some have done it through adoption (just like a lot of straights), some have achieved it with artificial insemination (just like a lot of straights). Not only that, a fair number have done it the "straight way." So the capability for reproduction and future generations is there, and some do choose to avail themselves of that option in areas where the right isn't legislated away from them. I think it's a great sin that we make it so difficult for gays to parent, particularly when there are so many shitty heterosexual parents out there. But that's really wandering pretty far afield, so I won't take it any further than that. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  20. Can you make that remark without reading his book? Think about it, since you haven't read the book, in theory you may even think the same as he does. Who knows? In theory now! Well, then, why don't you enlighten me. I'm not going to read his book, and unless it says that it's okay for consenting adults to have whatever kind of sex they feel like, as long as all of them are really smart, then I don't think we have a meeting of the minds. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 22. rl: too much Dr. Phil? He just released a book called exactly that. Who is Dr. Phil? Sorry. Couldn't help it. I don't watch TV, and I don't read the self-help money-maker of the day. The few things I've heard about him don't impress me. And I'm pretty sure he and I don't mean the same thing when we say "smart sex." rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  23. The fear of the unknown. Personally, i can't envision myself performing felatio on another male, let alone the "other" thing. I'm sorry, IMO it's repulsive and the human body was not even designed to function that way. I can assure you that neither giving a blow job nor receiving anal penetration is anything even close to repulsive. Why is it okay for a guy to stick his cock in my mouth or in my ass, but it's not okay for two guys to do the same? Why is it okay for you to eat pussy, and not okay for two women to do the same? What part of any of it is unnatural? Animals engage in homosexual play--are they unnatural? If sex were only for the purpose of procreation, you might have a point, but it's also for pleasure. If it doesn't pleasure you to have sex with a man, so be it, but that doesn't mean you have reason to say it's repulsive generally, even if it happens to be repulsive to you. No more blow jobs for you. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  24. I think this is a thinly veiled personal attack. Well, if that's what it is, I want in on it, because I agree with him. Yeah, it is. And his mind is brilliant. To further illuminate something I wrote earlier, my personal regret about gay men is that it isn't body parts that make my toes curl so much as intellect. And sometimes, because of that, I really feel like I'm missing out. Maybe there's a whole new sexual preference for us to consider: smart sex. That's not what he wrote. And, factually speaking, in the few societies we have to go on, those with a same-sex orientation have not oppressed those with an opposite sex orientation. This is not to say there have not been oppressed people in those societies, but the lines were not drawn in the way you might suppose. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
