Wingsuits and Leg Mounted Pilot Chute Pouch
TheCaptain replied to NathanL100's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Almost all of the new wingsuits have the leg straps inside the suite, so ROL would not even be an option. I have attached a few picture of an older suit to show this. As for the question on the BASE there is an option for a BASE pouch which you can see in the picture below the rig on the right side and yes they usaually switch placement of the pilot chute depending on the style of jump. It is much better to be on the ground wishing you were up there, then up there wishing you were on the ground. Weather issue are frustrating Kirk He's dead Jim

What deployment method do you have on your primary sport rig?
TheCaptain replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
That is an interesting choice of container size. If I may ask why so small on the reserve tray. I know you can get a PD Optima 143 in that tightly but with the main tray being so large why restrict the reserve size? Kirk He's dead Jim -
I personally a huge fan of leaving the position of the hacky the same on every single jump. I think it is a bad idea to move it IMHO. I fly a Super Mach 1 which is one of the largest wings out there and I have no problem finding the handle. Kirk He's dead Jim

I would highly suggest what ever container you get that you get one with a skyhook. I believe Micron, Javelin, and Icon all have an option for the skyhook. I love my Infinity and Kelly makes a great rig but there is not an option for the skyhook with it Kirk He's dead Jim

I would think that when it comes to the heavier fliers that the more wing the better (provided you have the experience to handle it). I am 6'2" and about 240 out the door, with my Tony suit Super Mach 1 I achieved a sustained fall rate of 42 MPH over the 2 minute 40 second skydive. That was on my 6th jump on the suit so I know I still have room to learn and grow. Kirk He's dead Jim

While the Precision tandem canopy is good IMHO the Icarus is still better Kirk He's dead Jim

The first year we had our PT 365 they opened great, the second season we found them opening a bit too hard. We roll the nose and pull the slider out in front of the nose now and the open great. Kirk He's dead Jim

Did you ever stop and ask why an Icarus Beta (which is an older canopy) would only have 25 jumps on it, my guess would be there is something wrong with it (such as it opens really hard). I would suggest having a rigger make a domed slider for it or another option would be a pocket on the front of the slider. Kirk He's dead Jim

TI's : Have you had a mal on a tandem yet?
TheCaptain replied to MotherGoose's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Just read the Sigma Manual for packing are you setting the brakes? I jump Sigma's with PT 365 (which opens in full flight) with standard PRO pack and we take the extra length in the brake lines at the canopy and S fold it and rubber band it together. Even when I jumped Strongs with set 400 we would set brakes and still S fold the extra brake line length at the canopy. I have roughly 1800 tandems and only 1 cutaway around 400 tandems into my carreer. The mal was tention knotts I tried to clear them and it would not. Kirk He's dead Jim -

I am not sure if you have paid close attention to how popular the GoPro is becoming(or at least at my DZ). Most of the people that have one have it mounted to a helmet with no cut away system in place(which is why they need a mount that has a week link so incase of lines getting snaged in it it will come off). There is no difference between lines getting caught on a Gopro or a ringsite, but most camera setups that a person has a ringsite there is some kind of quick release system for the entire helmet. Hard mounting a GoPro to a helmet without any kind of quick release setup I personally think is a bad idea. Kirk He's dead Jim

The GoPro mount is a huge snag factor but what makes it work in theory is that the mount is plactic and just taped on so if lines get around it, it will break off (in theory). Your mount is not so if lines get caught around it there is no engineered week link to get the lines off the helmet. IMHO that makes it a very bad idea Kirk He's dead Jim

I was talking to our rigger about it, there are some advantages to it, it is much stronger than the old cable as the crimp on the end of the cable is only rated to 500LBS, they bungee the spectra cord so if you have a floating handle (out of the velco sandwich) it stays much closer. I would suggest having someone video your landings it should be easy to spot if there is something you are doing/not in your landings that would cause the shin splints. Kirk He's dead Jim

I use thesehttp://www.uscav.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=11270&TabID=137&cs=1. They are kind of cheap and I go through about 1 pair every 400 skydives. The foam makes a tight seal and works great, if you get them and they are adjusted tight to pull on the sides of the glasses near the elastic band (the hinge is kind of a weak point) Kirk He's dead Jim

question about auto insurance/ liability to those in the industry
TheCaptain replied to TheCaptain's topic in The Bonfire
Yes, it was side by side. We were both going south bound on highway 213 from I205 heading to Molalla in Oregon. I realize my pride/stupidity aided in this happening and my deductable is $500 but it just bothers me that at the end of the day right or wrong does not matter and that the insurance company will decide by it's self "IF" thier client was responsible. Thanks, the damage is pretty minimal my estimate was $2000 and I got the worst end of the stick between us. There was no injuries as this happened doing all of 10 MPH. Kirk He's dead Jim
