  1. If you can the evening tour of alacraz is better( I have been there a couple of times an the audio tour they have now is great). We were kind of taken off guard by how cold and windy San Francisco can get. Just a quick heads up be carefull of where you stay in the San Jose area because the hotel we stayed at was in a really bad neaborhood (the kind where afer showering you still feel like you need a shower) Also at the wincester house they have a behind the scenes tour that I thought was more interesting than the regular tour. 2. I think Megan Fox is one of the hotest up and coming actresses and she is not bad at acting. Kirk He's dead Jim
  3. When my step son was 5, my wife and I took him into the doctor for shots. I really could not believe the fit he threw. As my wife took him into the back to see the doctor he was screaming at the top of his lungs and kicking. I went to help and in the end I had to wrap myself around my son and hold him as tight as possible without hurting while another nurse held the arm so the doctor could get the shot in(doctor asked my wife to leave the room while we got the shot done). After that my wife and I spent the next several months tell him that big boys do not cry or throw fits when getting shots. Next shot he hardly even flinched
  4. I really can't believe that you read those about those fatalities and then turn around and ask does the 200 jump minimum apply to me just because you have some tunnel time (which does nothing for emergency procedures and being familiar with the gear). Good luck with that Kirk He's dead Jim
  5. Before blowing off the 200 jump minimum and just a reminder that is with a wingsuit instructor, please read this threadwingsuit fatality Kirk He's dead Jim
  6. You know, there is one simple truth here... Buy quality and cry only once! Most people will agree that Toyota and Honda, and Nissan rank far above the Kia, Hyundai and Suzuki brand names, however if their products are so superior to the others why is their standard warranty 3 years/ 36,000 miles. When I went to buy a new car/suv I looked at the those three first but was not impressed with the price and lack of warranty. My wife drives our Santa Fe and drive a Hyundai Elantra that I have put 114,000 miles on and out side of standard maintenance I have not had to touch it and it runs great. Kirk He's dead Jim
  7. I really do not know a lot about Kia except that they are owned by Hyundai. I personally own a Hyundai Santa Fe and love it. My wife and I have put 30000 miles on it and have had no problems. I tow a 3500 LBS trailer up to the mountain to go snowmobiling and while that is over the listed towing capacity the Santa Fe does just great. My brother and father both own a Suzuki XL7 which is the approx. the same size as the sportage and Santa Fe. They both love theirs and went with Suzuki mainly because unlike Hyundai and Kia (which their warranty applies the 10/100,000 to original owner) the Suzuki follows the vehicle so 10/100,000 applies to the 2nd, 3rd etc owners. 8. Love the line from Terminal velocity "I am more than a walking Penis, I am a flying Penis" or someting very close to that Kirk He's dead Jim
  9. When I started skydiving, I picked up a second job doing similar to my main job CAD Programming for CNC turrets. I would go to my normal job 8-4:30Pm then go directly to the other job. Some weeks I would log 80 plus hours in during the week other weeks it would be 50 or so hours. I did that for 3 years to pay for skydiving and to build enough time in the sport to be a tandem instructor. The CAD work at my second job was rather interesting it was drawing and programming for Video surveillance periscopes for surveillance vans used by the government. You could talk to the DZO about maybe packing to earn extra money to jump as packers can make really good money at a busy DZ Kirk He's dead Jim
  10. This information came to light on this website or at least it did to me and after just a quick search I found this article http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=394 But then again, what the hell do I know because if you have not heard of it then it could not possibly be true Oh yeah, I was slightly wrong as it was Bill Clinton's administration not George W.'s Kirk He's dead Jim
  11. I would suggest cancelling your current policy and get insurance that would cover a skydiving accident Kirk He's dead Jim
  12. Your right!! That is why I ask my provider up front if they exclude coverage as it applies to a skydiving accident. Also the only time I did have to go to the hospital I lied and said I fell off of my roof, but I realize if I had to get an ambulance ride from the DZ I would not have that option and that is why I find out the answer first. 13. Unless I am mistaken, George W. Bush past a bill stating a person can not be excluded from getting medical coverage if the participate in dangerous past time, however they can be denied coverage as it applied to an injury substained while participating in that dangerous past time. 14. Since finding out it is possible for health insurance to exclude a skydiving related accident, I always ask up front if they cover it. I always get health insurance through my work but it has come up on every possible job subsquent to starting skydiving as an issue I would need the answer to before accepting a job. 15. Well this would be excluding the strong dual hawk as both handles are on the right side. I believe the Sigma manual states the instructor should alternate sides the use as the primary release. Personally I think alternating would be best but with handycam I see no reason that the right side should not be used all the time as the primary release, this would give you the best openning shot and their si nothing stating you have to use the left one as the primary. 16. I could understand the benifits to wearing a helmet if skydiving helmets actually did something to protect your head. I mean a Gath, Z1 evo I could crush in my hand so what real protection do they offer. I use to wear a helmet on every tandem for my first 800 tandems and then I just stopped for the most part. I really do not see a ton of advatage to wearing one (outside of a protec) other than noise reduction and giving a place to put an audioable altimeter in. Kirk He's dead Jim
  17. I would suggest going to the local dz for the retraining as it is a great way to become accquainted the the locals. This is generally the very beginning of the season so you still have the rest of the year to jump and welcome back Kirk He's dead Jim
  18. There are several companies that make camera jacket; Tonysuit, Firefly, Liquid sky just to name a few but they're not cheap. Kirk He's dead Jim
  19. Gotta love a guy walking to a plane with no main risers attached to the rig Nice shots of UPT rigs Kirk He's dead Jim
  20. I like the (5 connection points), Upper right, upper left, lower left laterial, lower right latterial. I wonder what the fifth one is?
  21. List of jobs held in my life Ceramic Caster for 1 year Burger flipper for 3 years Spot welder, shear operator, CNC mill operator, Press brake operator, CNC punch operator, Press brake lead, CNC mill programmer, CNC punch programmer 13 Years same company (was laid off for 6 months were I was a shear operator at another company) CNC programmer 2 months CNC programmer/ sales & quoting 9 years Tandem Instructor 5 years part time So total I have worked for 7 companies since my first job when I was 13 Kirk He's dead Jim
  22. I generally will wear two altimeters, an analog one on my left and a digital suunto vector on my right. The main reason I wear two is primarily just incase someone on the plane forgets one or has a digital on die. I lone one out about dozen times a season. Kirk He's dead Jim
  23. When the majority of people are saying do not down size and you are arguing to downsize, then you are just trying to vindicate the decision you have already made in your head. Kirk He's dead Jim
  24. It sounds like you really are not going to listen to the advise given here unless it agrees with the decision you have already made. IMHO, if you can not stand your current canopy up nearly 100% of the time you do not need to down size, but if you are going to anyways you be prepared to live with some pain. Attached is my lesson in downsizing quickly Kirk He's dead Jim
  25. Back when I was jumping a Crossfire 2, I did several jumps on a Vengeancea and thought that they were pretty similar in flight. I would personally say that I thought the Crossfire 2 had just a little more dive but that was about it. Kirk He's dead Jim
