  1. Who took the photo of William Shatner in his avatar? And what's the copyright status of the youtube video his sig links to? No offense Cap, just stirrin' the pot.
  2. After reading the article, I went on the web and started searching for royalty free music. Some of the sites are rather expensive $99 per song and they really were not that good, I did find this royalty free that was more reasonable $47 per song and I found some that I thought were not too bad. Hey if other people have a better site to get royalty free music, could you post it. Kirk He's dead Jim
  3. After reading this August edition of Parachutist, "Camera Corner, Copyright on th Drop Zone", it got me thinking about the videos edited (for profit) for tandems and others using commercial artist music. Now with youtube.com and other sources these videos are now being boadcast on the web, I wonder how many video editors have thought about this, and what their conclusions were? Kirk He's dead Jim
  4. This is generally best handled by talking to your instructors, but the best way is to look straight ahead (not down) and find thing to judge your height from (house's, trees, hangers). Kirk He's dead Jim
  5. I just pulled this off of the Icarus website Service Centers/Rigging Lofts Chicago Service Center 3215 East 1969th Rd Ottawa, IL 61350 Phone (815) 434-6098 Kirk He's dead Jim
  6. I know of one Manbird. If memory serves someone was giving him a hard time on a wingsuit thread and it got heated. Manbird (edited per phreezone comment below ) stole a password to get moderators ablities to this website and change his(the guy he was arguing with) Icon to Dramaqueen and band him from the site. Main guy from this site was so upset he called manbirds work and tried to have him fired. Kirk He's dead Jim
  7. I did some research on the orginal Safire and from my understanding there are generally two types of Safire's ones that open great and have a ton of flare and then some that open terrible and do not have a ton of flare. There is a mod that someone came up for the Safire's that open hard and do not have a ton of flare. If you contact Icarus, they can put you in contact with their service center and they do know about the mod. The mod helps them open softer and have more flare. Here is a link to an old post about Safire Opennings and this mod Safire opennings & mod Kirk He's dead Jim
  8. It all depends on the Tandem harness being used as some will get smaller than others. I would suggest poising that question to the exact DZ, they would be going to. I have taken 4' 9" women using a Sigma system and she could have been a little smaller still as all stops were not at the minimum settings. Kirk He's dead Jim
  9. I think you are right about the humidity. I do not believe the Viso is even water resistant and I know of someone that did one jump in the rain and toasted his Viso. I would suggest getting their Protecktor item I10508 which can be found on this page Protecktor Kirk He's dead Jim
  10. Looking at the video, I do not see him spending much time with his right hand feeling for the drogue just before exit, so in my mind it appears (since he leaves with it in his hand) as though he either knew about the extraction before putting the student out the door or extracted it on just prior to exiting. However, I gues the pilot may have brought it to his attention in the door. Kirk He's dead Jim
  11. I assumed that the TI pulled the Drogue right before exit, if he knew before hand that it had been extracted then he put everyone there in danger as getting ready to leave his right hand is on the door frame prior to exit (leaving the drogue out on the floor ). If the drogue somehow got extracted in the plane and he knew about it, he should have never left the plane, just think about the possible situtations if the drogue got out of the plane before they left the plane. 12. I think the DZO and the Pilot have every right to be really upset with the TI. If the TI can not fly the exit without needing to get the drogue out instantly than they should not be an TI. Kirk He's dead Jim
  13. I have just started learning handycam but the glove of choice by the experienced instructors here is the Way Cool Glove with the camera eye. As far as cameras it seems as though Sony has eliminated alot of the higher end cameras mini DV cameras we like to use and are just keeping some of the lower end units in production, however you can still find the DCR-HC96 ( which is a higher end single chip camera) refurbished on their website. As far as the lens we use a Royal .2 lens. Kirk He's dead Jim
  14. Save up your money and tackle AFF in one shot just as others have suggested. If money is an issue and it usually is get a second job, put the money from the second job a side for skydiving. I had a second job until I could earn money skydiving and then that became my second job. Kirk He's dead Jim
  15. Unless you buy a camera helmet new and for the specific camcorder you have , some assembly may be required (ie... you may have to modify some stuff). First off what battery are you useing? Most all side mounts will only allow the smallest battery made for the camera. After getting the smallest battery made for the camera find the position it will need to be in, in order to get the cover to close. Next drill a new mounting hole if needed to use the tripod screw. Lastly as far as height , you will need to make a spacer to center the camera in the lens cutout area. When I had a sidewinder I had to use a 3/8" spacer to center my PC105 in the lens cutout area. 16. The chin strap on the Z1 is not useless, it works great for securing the helmet to the chest strap for take off if you choose not to wear on the ride to altitude Kirk He's dead Jim
  17. Or pinning a bulls eye on you for the swoop dives
  18. My advice to you is to get some more jumps (like 100 in this summer or some tunnel time) before getting a coach rating, 100 jumps spread over 2 years in all reality is not near enough flying time to have the in air skills to coach others. As a coach you will need to be there in the air with the student close enough to observe them and have the skills to match their fall rate and go faster and slower in place so they can work the fall rate drills. You will also need to be able to do this without thought as you should be concentrating on the student and giving them in air feed back if needed. I am not trying to knock you as I do not know you but just remember making money skydiving is far less important than being a competent instructor and inspiring students. Kirk He's dead Jim
  19. Personally, if I were you I would let it go and do my job. Oh and not be late ever again. Weather this was meant for you only or others if you are doing your job and being on time you have nothing to worry about anyways. You're right that it is not professional but some just deal with things differently. Hell one time I had 5 managers talking to me for 20 minutes about me taking the time to move two pallets that took me 5 minutes to do. Kirk He's dead Jim
  20. If you file a claim with your insurance for an uninsured motorist, your insurance company will pursue getting the money from the other driver or atleast that is what happened to me. A guy who did not have insurance ran a stop sign and I ended up totalling my car. He gave me a bogus insurance card and I ended up filing with my insurance company for an uninsured motorist claim. My insurance company in turn went after the guy and got the money from him. Kirk He's dead Jim
  21. There are two things I have noticed that help make my openning more consitant. First, I find it makes a big difference to make sure the slider does not get pushed out from the cocoon in the pack job. I find it best when laying the pack job down into the big triangle to capture the this point where the line groups leave the cocoon. I do this by putting my knees on each side of the point where the line groups leave the cocoon. Some may find it easier to use there feet. I leave my knees there until it is time to "S" fold the pack job. Second, I find some packers like to milk the pack job from the triangle into the cigar shape that will be "S" folded. I find I get better consistancey in my pack jobs by taking a second and specifically folding the outer corners of the triangle under the cocoon. Kirk Kirk He's dead Jim
  22. Are you talking about the Precision Aerodynamics tandem main? That is all we jump and for the most part the opennings are great not too snivelie but about 600 ft opennings. We just do a standard PRO pack with the slider just out infront of the nose. Kirk He's dead Jim
  23. I have one and I use it for tandems. I personally think they offer about as much protection as a Frap hat, they are very soft (I could easily crush it in my hands.), but it does hold a audiable and cuts down on the wind noise. Kirk He's dead Jim
  24. My longest flight 119 seconds on a protrak exit at 13500 AGL stopped recording at 5800 AGL average fall rate across the entire skydive 47 MPH. I weigh 245 LBS out the door and fly a Skyflyer 3 Special. Kirk He's dead Jim
