Hey slim, nice to see you, check your dz.com e-m in a couple of days, I got some photos for you. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Wow, you have too much time on your hands mate!!! If there's ammendments I just ask dad what they are and when they come into effect... one of the nice things about having an instructor/APF board member for a dad! The downside?? When he grounds you: When you're under 18 it means you can't jump and you can't go out!! When you're over 18 it still means you can't jump!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Hey cornishchris visited here once, liked it and now he has moved here!!! LOL!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Having spent all the years of my life around a dz (don't ask!!) I can honestly say this comes as no surprise. I've heard everything from... "How dare you not let me take my wife for a tandem on my second jump!!!" to "I beat the cypress, you can't ground me!!" and "I didn't think..." Our sport attracts all sorts unfortunately, the good and the bad.... Working over the years as a manifestor, a flaker (packing helper) a dubber (comps) and playing about as a jumper has shown me the entire spectra... Don't even get me started on the letter that arrived at the dz: -It arrived 20+ years after the guy from the UK had jumped with us -asking about the canopy size in his logbook not being filled out's relevance to his ability to jump/experience the jump. -asking if we would have this on record and if we could explain why it wasn't filled out and the significance of this -stating how he may have "experienced" the second jump before the first as he was hypnotised by someone who didn't quite know what they were doing 25 years ago.... Did I mention it was adressed to "parachuting school about 25 km out of sydney somewhere near wilton?" The posties would have had a ball with that one....you'll get why if any of you know how big sydney is... Yes....all sorts.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Descriptions of exits by name?
Jasmin replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
horny gorilla isn't that common as an exit, but can be: its basically a group transition from a star to a sit with leg locks. Tube/loop: everyone grabs leg straps/ass of person in front (forming a tube/loop) and you roll it out the door...did this with 12 people in 2 rows with cross-grips out of a skyvan..... 240+ mph windy and a lot of fun.... intend to try a 16-way at the x-mas boogie.... Shuttlecock/flower: hand grip plus other hand on harness/sleeve (which you then let go of out the door) this becomes head down and the more people = usualy more stable (ie 4 vs 2 ppl) Mr bill= one person stand, other clinging to them like a reverse tandem. Pitch right off the door. Walk around/sit on their shoulders under canopy. Jump off them, open, land. Admire bruises and cuts. Do it too long off the door and you will come off. Also, if you do this with small elliptical canopies (in my dz's collective experience...ie lots!) you will have a very nice mal..... Sit train. Pretty obvious isn't it. Sit posn either facing one another or in a row facing one direction, or a combination of them. Rodeo, one behind the other, pull yourself on them as you hit the air to end up riding them like a cowboy in a rodeo....great fun if they're wearing a birdman...recommend trying to surf them too!! (Just watch their pins!!!) These aren't really exits but are lots of fun. Form a cat, then all track, person at front then attempts a front loop whilst all still holding on, Good fun. "Track/frap/flip a cat" Oppenheimer. From a star. Release grips. All put one arm in and lock on wrists (ie all left hand or all right hand). Now all track until it disintegrates. Again, good fun.... Ummm I'm still at work, so that's about the extent of it at the mo... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -

My bro and I both started at 14. But our younger brother will do his second jump on his 14th b'day as he did his first jump at age ten!!!! (14 is age limit in oz) I could have done my first couple of tandems at age 5 out of some c-130's but the harness was too big for me!!!!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I loved all the references to mythology and religion: it was like watching a movie made wholly on the concept of easter egg inclusions! Persephone: greek mythology, kidnapped by Hades, king of the underworld and forced to become his wife.... neo: christianity galore nebuchandezza: last king of babylon (bible) It goes on and on and on... Heck there's even term papers on all the ruddy symbolism. I found it kinda funny myself xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Research on Injuries Sustained from Hard Openings.
Jasmin replied to patrickweldon's topic in Safety and Training
Student gear tends to be ill fitting (vs custom made gear) and your position on deployment may be a factor (among a billion other things!!) I got some most horrendous bruises and tender bits on student gear, its very common... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
Fine then; clarification: if its buzzing you shouldn't be climbin' or jumping! (Ie don't f***ing do it) The radiation sickness my mates got from a particular tower would've ended even the best sex life (albeit temporarily)!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Hey fergbird, got a suit that'll fit me for friday?? xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Totally unrelated to the story. I've seen some nasty nasty radiation sickness on mates after a jump from a certain tower....if its buzzin' you shouldn't be jumpin'.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I gotta agree with you HH. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

From the very beginning and over the years, I've heard of Dwain doing some pretty daft stuff, seen the footage, seen the grins. So I gues sthis was a bit of a shock. He was always the one we joked at and about, but the last one to expect it to actually happen to. To boot, the timing for me is more unreal than anyone can ever imagine. I'll never forget laughin' when he stuffed up, trying to impress a girl...smiling like an idiot when I heard he'd vouched for my sorry ass...and sighing with the deepest sorrow when I heard it was all over. What a "larrikan", what a life, what a loss. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Attn OZZIES: $25 boogie with free beer!!!
Jasmin replied to Jasmin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nobody knows what an XL is, so I said Cresco to gain familiarity, as there are a few Cresco's used for jumping here in OZ. The XL will be a brand newbie (thus no serial or ID yet) and as far as I am aware, is our new toy.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
Attn OZZIES: $25 boogie with free beer!!!
Jasmin replied to Jasmin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm going to be doing hopefully a gazzilion jumps over this period, my mates are buying a 100+ tix for the boogie... Doesn't matter if you're an AFFy, ff, flatty, bird, freestyler, wanting to do your star crest, a CRWdog or wanting to be any of the above! If nothing else you'll get a tonne of jumps in (weather permitting) and a flipping good time!! The bunkhouse is fairly less than ordinary, but there's camping space, a caravan city and cheap accomodation in Picton. Failing that, there's a formule 1 motel ($49 a night) 15 minutes down the freeway. There'll be catered meals at the Dz each night. Gear hire is about $60 but there will be a lot of gear on sale during the meet also. Usually $32 a jump or $30 if bought in bulk. For the $25 a jump deal you'll need to pre-register by Dec. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
Did my first birdmans this w/e, not just content with that I went up and did a rodeo/surf on a birdman too!! Awesome fun, thanks to Fergie for the fun and putting up with my fat arse and feet on his back! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
