I'm running a study on that point....what makes us tick... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Three ways to look at it: 1) Is you life worth more than $1200? Eg if God asked you right now for $1200 or he was going to end your life, would you give it to him? I know its not usually this clear cut...but it just might be... 2) What happens to you if you get knocked out in freefall or your reserve pin snaps? ie What if something out of your control happens? 3) its a rule set by the governing body, you can't jump unless you abide by them (or try to abide by the big ones at least...) If you go in without one, its quite possible some bloody govt bureacrat will try to shut the DZ down for some period of time whilst investigating...ie you may screw a whole lot of other jumpers around by doing it. The rule is about to go up to E lic. At my dz you can hire gear with an AAD, I heard you can even hire a cypress from some riggers (although I think this was for if yours is off to AirTec). Shoot us an e-m when you hit Sydney, can do a jump and grab a beer. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Its one thing to have a personal attack made on you in the forums because of your views and what you said: yeah right, back on your bike, buddy... Its another to be slandered and abused through your messages box... I posted a message in the incidents section, (tandem cypress fire) and in return copped a rather nice pm from a rather nice dz.commer... "If you haven't got anything nice to say..." Not only did they not have anything particularly nice to say, they didn't have anything particularly useful to say either. I'm assuming the person who sent it, didn't have the front to do it in the forums where everyone would see, and prefered instead to proverbially do it behind everyone's backs. So I'm spoiling his fun and letting you all know. Sorry for the troll everyone, but this really sucks and I don't think its something we should be condoning. Goodness knows I'm no angel, but I try not to abuse people through their personal boxes/e-m unless there's a damn good reason (or a damn big misunderstanding...sorry Sangiro!!) I don't think a single post on dz.com quite qualifies.... (unless its a nearly porn picture of you posed by your ex, perhaps) If it happens again, I'll post the messages and the persons name/handle and leave the condoning/condemning to the rest of you. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Whilst I confess I'm not 17 anymore, I did my first skydive on my 14th birthday, my first solo on my 16th b'day and my younger brother scott kept up the tradition doing the same. The youngest of my 2 brothers broke the tradition (lucky little st) and did his first tandem just before his 11th birthday, after being told he was too light to do a bungy jump with Scott and I!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Its not everyday you go to pitch and instead watch someone fall away on their back with a hoop about their middle.... Its not everyday you get a pilot chute in the face as you start tracking... Its pretty rare to see a pilot chute pitched through a hoop... But its VERY rare that it all happens in one jump!!!!!! Ok I should give a little background: I'd got permission to do some hoop jumps. I'd got a gf (thanks Wendy!!!) to "borrow" a hoop from the school she works at. The biggest one she could find was about 0.5 of a metre wide ie about 3 feet. Not very big...but hey, we were bored. The deal was supposed to be: I take out the hoop, at 5 we stop playing, someone else holds the other side of the hoop while I pitch. Straight forward, right? Wrong! Hoop gets broken at 5 and the guy holding the other side lands with the hoop instead of me. Then, we find a hoop about 1.5 metres wide. ie as BIG AS ME!!!! This is much better...or so me thinks... First try gets a little hairy, but we are getting out of the skyvan (rear door exit), and it all works out. JUMP 3 is where it all goes wrong...... We are now exiting out of a beaver: low tail plane, 10 people aboard, very cramped and the side-door is 3/4 the size of the hoop..... Normal people would have given up.... not me.... I make the hoop into a figure of 8, stack the exit up like an 8-way and try not to get the hoop caught up on the tail!!!! Jump goes ok, I hold the hoop alone, as everyone is having too much fun buzzing me as they go through the hoop... Finally, Johnny Mac takes the other side for awhile and nods at me to pitch as we pass 5.500ft...as planned. I wave off but everyone's ditters are still at 5 from the last jump and they are still aiming for the hoop! Its Trev's 300th jump so I wait for him to go through as we hit 5.... He somehow manages to get caught up on the hoop on his way through (its as big as me in diameter, remember!!) and wrenches it from my and Johnny's hands!! He is now in freefall, at 5 grand, on his back, with a hoop around his waist, looking very very shocked!!!!! He takes it off with his right hand and goes to pitch but realises he can't with a bloody big hoop in his right hand. He transfers it to his left, (moving all over the sky in the meantime) and proceeds to pitch a pilot chute into my face as I'm starting to track!!!! I track, and he pitches his pilot chute THROUGH THE BLOODY HOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He realises its all going wrong (meanwhile his bag is out, lines unstowing....all through that damn hoop!) and tries to pull the hoop down, not realising his gear is deploying in the hoop! His tugging causes him a bag lock, but as he releases the hoop to cut it all away, the hoop fliesoff and, ending the tension on his lines, and clears his bag as his main deploys. He lands ok and we are all screaming and laughing in shock. Lessons learned? ALWAYS follow the plan. Set your dytters right and remain height aware: your dytter is your back up, not your main alti!! If you are at 4000, have just rolled onto your belly and have a 1.5 metre hoop in your hand...let it go!!! If you are Trevor AKA "lucky", don't bother buying a lottery ticket for awhile. This could have resulted in a main-hoop entanglement and maybe worse if the hoop had gotten caught on his rig... We were lucky, you might not be!! If playing with hoops/rafts/toys or anything unusual realise the risks, play by the rules and your plans.....and then have fun! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Jasmin replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

I'm a woman. I have breasts. My chest strap, like my handles, reside under them. They aren't just under my nose.... That doesn't, however, give me any excuse not to check it or get it checked by someone else. If you look in the incidents forum there is reference to a woman falling out of her rig due to a broken chest strap. icky icky icky chest straps aren't designed as grippers or to take the opening shock (esp. a head down premmie) and your weight, your harness is designed to take around 5000pds, your chest strap isn't.... If you want to take a grip/dock use your jumpsuit or your harness, not your chest strap perhaps? xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Also have bruised internals, strained rotator cuff muscles and superficial bruising (ie pain!!!! Can't even dress my self without being in pain!!!) Summary? Stay away from boys: they hurt you!! Don't pick a fight with a car....I've tried twice and ended up in emergency twice!!! Blue skies all...pray my luck improves! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I know we are half a world away down here, but XLR8 was our national 8-way team that competed at 3 (or was it 4) World Meets? Consistantly pulling up 4/5th ie first of the unsponsered teams. Y'anyways, all good. We need some more creaivity methinks! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

good karma brings me to Australia & New Zealand - WOOOOHA!
Jasmin replied to lewmonst's topic in The Bonfire
Will Pm you my details, but if not for a jump we can meet you in town for a coffee or some drinks Australia is the f***ing goods and NZ is very pretty...even if it is full of sheepshaggers (ie kiwi's: a trans-tasman joke) Hope you love it here, the weather may be a little bit cold. Oh and I will be in the domestic terminal at the same time as you in Sydney on the 22nd: I will be coming back from Melbourne!!!!! Hope to meet up with you, karma always comes back, xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
DON"T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T YET SEEN THE 2ND ONE!!!!!! tHIS WILL SPOIL IT!!!! 2 men rush for phone, talking about how agents came from nowhere and how they must get some little thing out of the matrix (it is the hardware from the Oracle that is given later to Neo with the time and place to meet the guardian of the oracle) 1st guy gets out, 2nd gets taken over by Agent smith This 2nd guy, seen as another agent smith, answers the phone and leaves the matrix... a guy cuts hand with knife whilst sneaking up on Neo (& trinity, morpheus etc) to attack him, is spotted so stops and boy Neo saved acts as distraction as he turns up with the "spoon" from an orphan (think back to scene in oracle's apartment in 1st matrix, "Come to realise the truth: that there is no spoon...") A guy urges his captain to answer the calls of the council to go to the aid and to find the nebacandezza (please 'scuse spelling) but captain tells him to stowe it A guy sets off the EMP early, alerting the machines to the counter attack and turing a counter attack into a bloodbath of the ships and of Zion. A guy is the only survivor of the massacre of the humans. They are the same one guy, and he is the one smith took over in the matrix. I think it comes to be seen that the "real world" is not so. Neo can drop the machines because of his skills learnt in the next construct, the matrix. Because the real world may also be a construct, Agent smith can take over the body of that guy we keep seeing. That last bits just a hypothesis, but the rest I picked up and reassured when I saw matrix2 again...see it again and look out for him... ps nice to see you're ok Joe, xxxxxxxx xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
