I had a great time in Taupo. Jumpers are cool and if you can't get on a load at one operation, you walk down the airport and get on a load at the other!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

We've got a wristwatch GPS we're taking up in the next few weeks. Will let know how goes.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

There's some good links on a thread on the ABA site about the effects of Non-ionising radiation. Most common effect of RF in particular, is thermal damage, but indirectly you can get burns and shocks aswell. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Jimmy Freeman and I will be in Vic this coming weekend. He is a BMi and I have a few "borrowed" suits, let me know if you'd like to talk or come play. Am also organising a Bird-Man boogie later this year...Send me an e-m if you'd like to be on the info list. Congrats on your jumps mate!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I was named j-bird, but I'm also known as ladybird and bird-babe. Not to mention my original title of "Queen of Freaks" Its all good... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

It would fit well with the BASE forum, but you never know what people will put anyway! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Ok my perspective is a little different, my family used to part own a DZ... If I jump on a load I still don't count as a slot (for getting numbers for it to go). If the DZO gets on, its a little bit different. At the end of the day he's still a slot. He chooses to be a no-charge. You should have got your money back, at a minimum he should have talked you through it before the load went. If you'd decided to pull the ticket, odds are he would have let it go up anyway. Bit dodgy I say xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Congrats to everyone who came out and played this weekend, first time out or otherwise. The Gloucestor crew get a special mention for driving all the way out to play; you guys rock and it was awesome playing with you!! I know I had an awesome weekend, I hope that applied for all. The skyvan made things easy, the beaver helped the turn around and there’s a lot to be said for being the first jumper out of a brand spanking NEW aircraft!!! Thanks to Jimmy Freeman for instructing, Annie and Marina for manifesting, and Sheryl and Dorothy for feeding us. Thanks to everyone who turned up, I hope we can keep the flock flying and the newbies coming!! To those who missed out on getting their first flights, we’ll be back doing it again in a month’s time….e-mail me to get on the info list. Over 50 wingsuit jumps, 6 first timers AND a flocking dive for Matt's 300th!! Thanks for a great weekend! Best tandem student quote of my career...

Guess you missed my last couple of birthdays sweetheart. And yes, girls grow up a little quicker than boys Yeah, it was a bit of rant. Apology for the extent, there's some good stuff in this thread I agree, but I ain't never seen no bitchin' like I have in this forum over the last couple of months. So I still stand by the sledging and the back-stabbing comments. (In between the Malaysia threads, the PM's about it and the posts deleted, its coming from posters and moderators alike). It doesn't help those learning, it doesn't add to anyone's knowledge, and the post deletion without consulting pisses a lot of people off (J.Utah). The point I'm trying to make is, afford each other a little respect and we'll all be a lot better off (and yes that one should be hit at me too). xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Oh for f**k's sake! Grow up!! Haven't you all got better things to do than sit at your 'puter and bitch incessantly about who is/isn't part of Tom's cool group? Can't you have an objective discussion about a topic that is worth hearing a multitude of opinions on? Regardless of whether or not you agree with them! Apparently not!!?? Instead its personal attacks galore, back-stabbing left-right-and-centre and a whole lot of good-for-nothing sledging. How pathetic are all of you??!!! Posters, grow up! Moderators, do your jobs! The forums are meant to be for discussion, not for insulting one another's intelligence or lack thereof!! Edited to remove benefit of doubt and to sound more like scolding "mother" xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Sorry, that should have read: Exit last. What happens to people who don't want to follow the rules? Thems the rules. Play by the rules or don't play bm at all. Oops! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Tom, I honestly think you and others take the naming sites thing far too anally at times. Many sites (eg KL, bridgeday) are public knowledge and reported in the media. A search on Google will pull them up in a couple of seconds. However, there have been some nasty consequences from sites being named/ photo'd/ filmed/ listed online. So yes, there is some sense to keeping unpublicised sites unnamed. ***Begin “mother”/bitch rant**** To put it bluntly, the way everyone has been behaving/posting in these threads (moderators and posters alike) is not good. I frequently hear BASE jumpers proclaim how they got away from skydiving to get away from the politics and the bitching. Yet here we all are, repeatedly bitching/whining like a couple of teenagers who haven’t got a date for the prom. Can we learn to give each other the benefit of the doubt? ***End of “mother”/bitch rant**** Edited to give benefit of doubt

Not really, just humouring my boss. (I was going to post one) He's on here, along with a few fed cops I work with. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I know at least 2 jumpers who work some serious government jobs. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

oh yeah, why not? hmmmm my dad/mum'll kill me. hmmmm I don't have a record. hmmmm I need to be able to travel. hmmmm I need a clearance to work. hmmmm maybe not. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

DO NOT DO TOW SOMEONE BEHIND A TRUCK!!!! Without the right gear, increasing speed can result in the person under canopy being slammed into the ground. Very uncool. Seen some nasty footage. Also, do not strap yourself into a go-kart wearing your rig. This resulted in a mate in hospital, hurting very badly!! We've gotten very bored on blown-out days over the last 20+ years!! From accidently starting freeway grass-fires with flare guns and airport fires with fireworks to jumping out of the chopper into the dam from 100ft (without first checking the depth) to painting team logos on the roof without getting the DZ owners approval...you name it, some idiot's tried it. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I'm going to be a little predictable here... Skydiving is a really valuable tool, it gives you a grounding in basics (canopy control, picking winds, dealing with openings etc) with a little more time and height. ie a potential for being a little more friendly/forgiving on a beginner. (Aussie perspective here!) That said, we've all seen/heard of great skydivers go and do stupid things off cliffs and objects....and we've all seen/heard of great BASE jumpers get on aircraft and do relatively dumb things also.... Having seen non-skydivers being taught BASE, skydivers becoming BASE jumpers and a complete whuffo being thrown off a bridge....I'd say go and get the jumps in an environment that's a little more forgiving, then find a tutor and go out and play!! But that's just my $0.02 worth!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

There's a lot of good stuff out there, you just got to know where to find it! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Yeah something like that... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Thanks to everyone who came, and those who helped out. We won best footage!!!!! Thanks again everyone xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Funny that.... I'm not saying don't teach 'em, I'm saying see what their abilities really are, which should be a consideration whatever they say they can do.... Which reminds me.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
-
In Australia its even more apparent....canopy skills are not a fluffy option, they're a survival skill! Where the line lies is up to the tutor, but never take someone's word on their ability if the jump numbers are low, see it for yourself first; I mean do you really want to find out the guy with 200 jumps can't land a canopy after they've frapped in, burned a site and caused you to be hauled off by the cops?!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Nice one sista!! The boys are still about....causing mischief....general mayhem....etc etc etc On the b'days: My mum is the same day as me and the same chinese year too. My mum's father-in law and my mate Simon are the same day as me also. My mate from high school is the same as Karen, ie their 21st the day before me. And my mates Pete and Stan are the day after. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
