The BASE community seems better than most at having a go at its members. But as an outsider, one thing really strikes me- that everyone's willing to have a go, but very few people are prepared to put up or shutup. I'm doing research into endorphins and altitude (ie acute hypoxia) with Sydney Uni and to put it bluntly, most people would statistically fair a lot worse at sustained high altitude than the singlemans. If you're into serious mountaineering/climbing or have done HALO/HAHO/altitude training, you'll know what I mean. At the end of the day, they continue to get off their arses and give it a go and good on them, I couldn't/wouldn't do it. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Yeah I heard about that. One of the most important things when wingsuiting is to keep an eye on where the heck you are! That individual should've known better, but hey all wingsuiters do it (land off) at least once! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Nope Op5e, you were weren't drunk enough to not which resulted in their canopies in the drink, not to mention a few jumpers who've landed in it too xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Maybe I'm on drugs or something...but if there were underwater springs feeding the former pond, why did it dry out?? Edited to add: Will ask the Wingates what's going on.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

OMG, I just fell off my chair LMAO! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Wow, thanks JGarcia! I've never had anyone think my being a geek was sexy before! You're welcome here in OZ anytime, and if you can make it out next month we're having the skysisters boogie- so many women.... Howdi Speedformula. If I remember correctly, it was actually a South Australian cab sauv...but the kicker, was that I was drinking it in a restaurant in Germany at the time. 10 points if you can figure out who took the photo... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Technically, a river is not a pond... Can anyone remember what the website is for the Picton swoop ocean? Ahem, I mean for the Picton swoop pond? xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

So true! There are many ways to skin/kill a cat (rip Dwain), just like there are many ways to design and test a wingsuit. Modelling's an option, horizontal wind tunnels an option, test flights, another again. Many of the mod's & developments in the last gen of suits were discovered by chance, not by testing. That's often not the best way to learn... On another note, funny you should mention Slim, one of his WS's is in my gear room at home! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Sorry iXic, but “Speedformula” (not Bodypilot1!?) is correct. You've missed the first rule in research- to do your homework. How do you know your new product is better, if you have nothing to compare it with? For any kind of research (incl pre-season F1 testing), you always go out and see what’s been done before & compare your test results & overall performance with historical/previous data. In cases where there's no calibration, no baseline data and no control data on record, acquiring this data through testing (be it your own or others' relevant tests) is not a recommendation for your research, but a prerequisite. We can sit here and debate for hours about academia/experience if you want, I'm merely a "stupid chick" physicist, with thesis and publications in complex numerical modelling. But at the end of the day, "I have x academic qualifications" doesn't necessarily equate to either of us being right. Not to mention, its a bit of a wank. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Picton's swoop pond (currently under construction) makes all other ozzie swoop ponds look like swoop puddles!!! LMAO xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

There is an easter bunny and you should see what she looks like when she's not wearing the bunny suit.... LOL xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

If the site was set up to propagate information to the worldwide BASE community, password protecting it becomes a logistical nightmare and kind of defeats the purpose. Password protecting the site is a big move and how do you discern who is legit and who isn't? Is there anyway to remove the site's listing from the search engines or limit the sites visibility to search engines? People can always track it down by asking here/blinc/base-forums i.e. still publicly available, but not served out on a platter for all to see. If someone’s determined to find it, they will, but lessening its visibility might just stop a few of the media scavengers who’ve got a tight deadline to meet… I pray we never end up on the list, we had too many aussies join the list last year xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Lots of work and very little mischief.... Or perhaps its best described as very little mischief, as measured on the Jari-scale! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Happy b'day Jari darling, will help celebrate when you arrive in Oz xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

He's been busting his butt working at the moment, so he's really looking forward to kicking back on this trip...if we let him! i have the same problem as Dragon2, I'll be in a classic2or GTi having to drop down like a rock to get down to everyone xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Wow, thanks for the compliment...I wish!! You better be coming to skysisters, I think we might just have something new to play with.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Thanks Avery, look forward to finally meeting you... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Does anybody know if its happening this year/details/organisors? (Sorry to ask another dumb question!) xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Simply visit the "I wish" thread for my thoughts on the matter xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Okay...this doesn't completely fit the formula, but: "I wish jiggs' suit had...enough room for my boobs to fit without me risking a nipple-zipper malfunction whenever I jump it..." xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

I can't take any time off or spend any money until Skysisters...I've got my priorities and setting some Aussie records and doing some mass wingsuit flocking dives is at the top of my list!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Thanks guys! We're now working with a few other jumpers to put together a full-length film by the end of the year. We're intending to get footage from events all over the world incl the much anticipated skysisters boogie! At Frank's cafe at Menai, 1pm Friday 18th Feb, I'll be showing our film and another short film (on bike trials) that made the finals. Masher's already said he's coming

Thanks to everyone who turned up, hope you had a great night. We were rapt to win another award, 2 winning films out of 2 attempts ain't bad... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Not true!!! Of the 25 most deadly animals in the world 23 of them are here in Australia....you can learn the most interesting things at the zoo!! But seriously, if you're going to be in Sydney come and play at Picton aka Sydney Skydivers. If you're down in 'mexico' (What we call the state of Victoria ) then head to Nagambie. If you're stuck for a lift give a holler...what's your skill level/discipline? xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
