  1. Hah, tailplane, you're never going to live this one down!! ;-) Its something we all need to be aware of. ie brief your new flyers, remind the expereienced flyers periodically and brief your pilots too!!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  2. I concur! Love Julie and Fiona We're intending to get the wingsuits going again too in prep. for Skysisters next year (and Jari coming too play!) xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  3. Jasmin

    You tell me

I'm not sure that's entirely true, but its not far off the mark.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  4. See post entitled "Broken toy" for further details... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  5. For clarification, the leg wing hit the tailplane not his legs/feet. ie He took the hit between his feet/legs. To put it bluntly, we're lucky both BGill and the plane are completely intact and undamaged. It appears the edge of the leg wing dissipated the impact along the suit tape, leg and wing. Most of us downunder remember what happened the last two times jumpers hit tails, none of it good. One of these incidents resulted in the tail/a** being ripped off the plane and could've taken out most onboard if it weren't for the pilot, Baz. He fought to keep it steady enough for everyone to get out and then got trapped inside by the door. He finally managed to bail out of it at 500ft. Tailstrikes often result in serious injury or death, we got very very lucky here. ps BGill's new nickname, thanks to Mayday1 is Tailplane!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  6. A certain very tall (very good) wingsuit flyer buzzed a tandem at the dz and after a few other minor misdemeanors, was told not to bother trying to manifest again!! Y'anyways, 3 years later, he's finally been allowed back, but he's on a very short leash!! So be careful who you buzz, all it takes is someone to get a little peeved and you can wreck it for everyone. There was barely any wingsuit flying going on for a very long time and the suits/jumpers who did turn up, weren't regulars/locals. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  7. friday is assessment day so I doubt it, but will be there asap that night. Can't wait to get the flock going and 20 slabs!? (None of which I'm paying for!) Sounds like my kind of party!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  8. No worries BGill, coming to the Nagambie Bird-Man boogie?? I can probably give you a lift down if you have the w/e off..... Hey Jari, hurry up and come play with us!!! Its only been 5 years since you last graced us with your presence and we miss you!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  9. Thanks to whomever did the Bird-Man over Kuta, on the load my Dad ("hilly") organised!! I think you just might have helped me convince him to come wingsuiting with me....with over 15,000 jumps, I think its about time he came out to play!!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  10. If people are telling you that you're certainly going to get hurt, its probably for a reason! Whilst its certainly a slap to your ego, perhaps they're seeing what you can't- that your enthusiasm/ego/ideas are not matched by your ability, prehaps you're going too hard. Everyone has some story about how they or someone they know, pushed it too hard and got "reminded", got hurt or ended up on "Nick's list"...and there are worse things than being dead... ps the prob isn't confined to the US or europe, we got it too. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  11. He's alive and its nothing short of a miracle that he still is. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  12. For most packers its a stated case of "all care taken, no responsibility accepted." Sure you'd like a nice opening, but unless they're packing student/tandem/work gear, where they're getting paid specifically to give a pack job that'll open, you're paying them so you can be lazy. If I have a reserve ride as a directly result of someone else's pack job, I'm not going to be a happy camper. But at the end of the day, unless there's a guarantee from the packer, you get what you pay for- a packed rig! The killer is, if you're daft enough to get on a plane without doing a gear check, perhaps you need to re-evaluate your ability to look after yourself. ie skydive safely. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  13. For those of you that missed it: ------------------------------------------ Hey Everyone, Ever wanted to do a birdman jump? Have you wanted to try this new discipline but don't have access to a suit or instruction? Ever wanted to slow your descent down to below 70mph, (how does a 2 minute freefall from 14k sound?) Well guess what? Now is your chance, thanks to some funding from the VPC state coach we will be able to have a wingsuit seminar at Skydive Nagambie on the 3-5th of September! The aim is to introduce as many jumpers as possible to wingsuit flight and to get them up for their first flights. To this end, we will have a number of demo suits available as well as instruction. So the big question everyone is wanting to know - How much? Jumps are at the usual slot prices, hire of the wingsuit will be $10 per flight. The seminar and basic instruction will be free!
  14. PM'd you my mobile. I'll be heading out this weekend, weather permitting ie If its still blowing 90 knots, there ain't a hope in hell of jumping (and living to tell the tale!) Happy to help organise a lift, give me a call or e-mail me your details/where you are. Blue one's and look fwd to jumping with you! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  15. I'm with you on this one; I've been the bird and I've been the rider. It can go alright and it can go to hell very easily. At 32 jumps I'd be more inclined to focus on developing my basic skydiving skills and awareness. I honestly recommend giving them a little more time to grow, so you know you can handle situations that may arise (like a reserve in your face). But that's me and at the end of the day, its your call! (Edited to correct poor spelling.) xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  16. At this stage it looks like I'll be there. E-M me closer to the dat if you're coming! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  17. Its not as strong as Orlando, but you can still have a heck load of fun. We were doing 3 -ways and 4-ways in there over x-mas and a little bit of sit, but its not the greatest for ff. DON'T take the cable car up!!!! Taxi's fine and relatively cheap, the bus up is bloomin' scary!! Have fun, mention you're a skydiver and they'll usually be a little generous on the time... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  18. There are worse things than broken bones....like a tri-ligament strain. I've had both and ligament and muscle tears on your ankles are much worse than a borken tib/fib. Hurts like hell and it doesn't heal! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  19. Ummmm, I beg to differ on that one!!! Jimmy Freeman has his BMI rating and last time I checked (about 10min ago) he is in the country! Unless something goes awry, James and I will both be there this year. (edited to correct bad spelling!) xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  20. Some of its useful, some of its not, wherever there are people with differing views and strong convictions (both the belief and the criminal variety) there's going to be both discussion and division. But if we're all having fun and occasionally learning something, its not all bad. You haven't got an easy job Tom, I'm not going to try telling you what to do...anymore.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  21. Going to give BridgeDay a miss and fly the new plane up to Equinox!! We're going to be Winsuiting it, so if you'd like to come play, let us know! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  22. ....read earlier posts...Denis is alive and organising kick-a** events in Russia; I wouldn't dismiss it that simply... (If anyone is feeling the desire for an argument in semantics, no canopy inflated, onto earth, is damn near close enough in my book) Years back Jari was getting a descent rate around 30 mph, Jim 28 mph, not sure on anyone else [sorry if you've blitzed this already!]. ie A few years ago and on old suits they were getting mighty low descent speeds, so heck only knows what's getting pulled off these days....never say never..... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  23. The footage of 25-45 ft openings off 1000ft+ objects show a lot less than 5 seconds under canopy! Eg 2.5 secs....enough time to flare, not enough time to unzip However skylark is right, not to mention your deployment is behind you. Between this and low vertical speed, you usually chew up less height on deployment. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  24. There's some footage kicking around of a (wingsuit) jump off KL Tower, opening at about 35ft. The wingsuit footage from the last KL isn't as outrageous, but there's some good footage kicking around of the damn aussies. I still can't believe the ambo's refused to take Denis to hospital after he hit...he must have looked bad!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  25. This year is the 10 year anniversary so its goign to be huge. Might be stuck in USA at BridgeDay, otherwise I'll be there with bells on and wingsuits! Pm me if you're coming and I'll try and meet up with you. Check out ramblers site for more details: http://www.ramblers.com.au/whatson/equinox.aspx xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
