I might beg to differ...on the other hand, since when do I know anything?!!! That said, I think all the best BASE boys and girls start out in Oz...we push the envelope where most don't dare to go! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

No flightline check but at height me (and all I jump with) do pin and bridle check. Not mandatory though...that was weird when I came to Uk... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -

Umm I hope you're really not serious about this?!! I'm not American, I'm not anti-american. A lot of people I know are. Tar all french with the same brush....Hey, why not african-americans, jews, muslims, asians and Germans while you're at it. Hey, why stop there, lets be bigots about women. Get a grip mate. Freedom of speech, I agree. You know who made the most reknowned speech about it famous? A frenchman named Voltaire. "I disagree with what you say but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it....." Ignorance may be bliss in this case, but I suggest trying some information and perspective for a change? Ps, blue skies buddy. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Sent a little note to the marketing boys at Burton. Ain't buying another Burton bit if they are sponsering these goons. You probably know how I (and others) feel about idiots like this invovling themselves in any sport. God knows I know nothing, but I know to listen to those with a little more respect for the sport, not to mention a little more experience..... Rant for the day: Learn from other people's experiences, you won't live long enough to make 'em all yourself. nb it probably helps if you have the humility to learn from their mistakes and advice..... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

My mal the other week (incidents) wasn't packed by me: I might have done the same but I've not packed a reserve ride yet... Don't laugh this happened to a girl in Germany. He re-routed her cypress, cut her pin and then packed her a mal. Words cannot express the disgust I have for that individual.... Y'anyways I know how to flat and pro pack. I think packing is an important skill, but I think its also accepting responsibility for your opening and canopy. I don't want that for my reserve, so I leave that responsibility to someone else ie my rigger. Occasionally I'll let someone else pack for me, but its rare, ie if I'm manifesting or jumping back to back (or close) loads with 2 rigs. Each to their own, its a nice luxury at the end of the w/e to get it packed, I'll admit.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Old BOC: If inner layer is more stretched than the outer layer (most BOC's are one piece of spandex doubled over) your pilot chute can get caught on the inner piece and it'll result in either a very hard pull (I shredded my BOC getting the damned thing out) or you'll have a total. New BOC: Spandex/elastic at lip, is too tight. If pilot chute is packed in 2 parts (ie bridle in middle and rest rolled in from either side to meet it) you may have a hard pull or a total. If packed so entire pilot chute is one roll, I found that I could now pull it out with a mere two fingers....but that's just me! The usual: sloppy packing of your pilot chute (or pure chance) results in your pilot chute and bridal forming a knot. This often results in not enough drag to pop your pin and you get a very nice pilot-chute-in-tow malfunction. ALternatively, don't cock your pilot chute and the result is the same. IF you're not sure about anythig, speak to a rigger or an instuctor with experience. Oh and if you're not happy with any mods on your gear...get 'em fixed! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Regardless fo your views its still pretty funny To the tune of "If you're happy and you know it" If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq. If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq. would you get out of the plane if?
Jasmin replied to bodypilot90's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
IF YOUR PLANE HAS WINDOWS (AND A CLEAR OR OPEN DOOR) AND YOU HAVE EYES THAT WORK, USE YOUR BRAIN (or what's left of it ) TO COMBINE THE TWO. Failing this check the spot before the jump light/bell. If you're not first, as you check the group before you has cleared (you all do this....right?!) you gain 4 or 5 sec + climbout to check the spot again. If you really take an interest in your safety whilst skydiving, watch the load before you; if possible, check the run-in in terms of drop point and direction. I'm usually on my way to the dirtbox at this point...or running for it, but its prettyeasy to draw a line upwind from sports canopies to tandems, students and people dumping high. I've had enough of this and complaints of how cold it is (its averaging 90-105 daily here [see {global warming my ass]) goodnight, have a good w/e all. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
yes you all are... It was +42C (as in +100F) last w/e at my dz, you can jump here in Jan, nude and be more worried about sun-burning your ass in freefall, than getting frost bite from hanging outside the door for the whole ride to height. And guys, get a grip. My entire continent is in drought, maybe for a second year if the forecast is remotely close...My country's capital is on fire 4 people dead over 100 homes destroyed and you wimpy f***s dare to sit there and complain about extreme temps and about how great an idea green house warming is?!!!!!! As for cold....you wimps. I jumped -25C at height a few years back (and -20 more recently)....I didn't like it, I still cringe at doing it, but my DZ jumps year round.....you wimps xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

would you get out of the plane if?
Jasmin replied to bodypilot90's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm just trying to say that spending 8 sec looking for the DZ after the bell/light, on a day where there's 20-30 knot winds and a plane of 2 and 3 ways or tandems and AFF (ie lots of groups), can result in a bunch of people landing off. Hell yeah, if you're 1st on the door, check the spot; but do it either before the jump light/bell, or as you go to climbout if you're confident of your knowledge of the DZ from the air. I've been on a load where 10 seconds of piss farting on the door by one 3-way caused 5 of a load of 21 to land off and many more to land in the far far paddocks. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
Chill pill time peoples. CA DZ's are the exception in a big way. Most DZ's are not like this, I've been to DZ's both here and in the states with large numbers of BASE jumpers and many with little or none. As for protecting sites, it needs to be done for the sanctity of the site, human life and to try and stop a few of the idiots from hurting themselves. That said, I'm notorious for calling all BASE jumpers idiots....those of you who know my background and jump history will know why Like I said, chill out some, I'm not posting here anymore.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

We e-mail...I willask him about that one..... I'm one of the few people who can make him blush and speechless, something even he can't remember happening before (don't ask...) I'm hoping to catch up with him and Mossy laterr on this year and in Europe. They took out the nats here and are going to france.....

I know my DZ from the air quite well. If it ain't familiar I ain't getting out. BUT If you're first at the door spend that one- minute from the 1 or 3 min bell/light to look for the dz and familiar spots. DON'T spend 5 min looking for it once the JUMP light/bell comes on or tandems and students and other jumpers land off because of your selfishness. There was an incident at my DZ several years back where the pilot stuffed up using the GPS and put the load out at 14,000ft at Tonto ie about 4nm from the DZ. They struggled to make it back past the water catchment (heavy trees) to the freeway. Which still meant they were 7 minutes by car from the DZ.....the spot is not always right, but you should be looking for the DZ before the jump light/bell not after it. Just my $2.02 worth xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." -
Ok, I know I've been around here a little too long but this post has been done AT LEAST 3 TIMES. Suggestion: look in the search bar when you feel like asking standard questions and if the post exists give it a new lease of life by adding to it! I don't know about anyone else but its getting a little mundane in here!~@! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

Yeah so do we, but in some cases, there's no point. Eg There is a bridge within 5 min of my dz, all the skydivers know about it, most BASE jumpers static line off it at some point and there's enough tape on the railing of the bridge to rival a 3M factory. The bridge was built some time after the original DZ was founded, ie back in the days of roundies and pc's, when you and I were running around in diapers and amniotic fluid.... That said, we're all really protective about cliff and other building sites....its too easy for sites like that to get burned.... But I feel no compulsion to protect etiquette with highly publicised, legal sites, such as bridge-day and KL: any idiot, even a whuffo, can figure those out. As for detering unqualified BASE jumpers, I've been around DZ's for twenty years now. Someone who wants to do it, will find a way, with or without supervision or advice. "Never underestimate the ingenuity of stupidity." In this case I'll respect your wishes, xj ps the BASE video night last month went very well PPS the SHOVELS have a new carnage video out which gets a rating from me. I'm not sure what formats its down in but I got my copy off Dougs in OZ in PAL.
