They did it. Its official. Held for 7.02 seconds. Woohoo!! http://www.300-way.com/images/jasonpeters.jpg xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  2. SATURDAY: A lack of communication on (my) missing rig...organised reserve repack but didn't tell me. But he did pay for it. Thanks Dad. Only 1 jump. SUNDAY: BOC inner layer stretched and snagged, had hard pull. On 2nd attempt ripped clear of BOC. Result-rig unjumpable. Jump 2 on Sun: was offered free jump and gear almost identical to mine. Got into otter saying: "It cant get any worse..." It did. Fell, hit Olecranon process (elbow tip and ulna nerve) with all my weight and momentum. Considered not getting out. Foolishly did. Dumped, half twist at line stretch, as looked to spot DZ got riser slap and bleeding nose. NOT F***ING HAPPY JAN!! Y'anyways, much kisses to Stef (and Ev) for taking me out wakeboarding/boating to cheer me up. W/E summary: 0:3:1 No sex, 3 jumps, 1 bloody nose, 1 bruised nerve and 1 f***ed rig (mine) Better luck next time?! I left the DZ after jump 2 of Sunday....jump 3 of w/e. No jumping this w/e, will do pub crawl in Santa suit instead hope rig back before Nationals and the Training Camp... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  3. A year ago I wrote a editorial letter in Skydiving about this. There was an attempt to raise the legal USPA limit from 16 with consent to 18. A parent cannot waive their kids right to sue, only their position to sue on behalf of the kid. Theres been a few precedents along these lines. I did my first tandem on my 14th b'day and my first AFF on my 16th. So did my gf and we're both still in the sport 6 years on. My brother and two of his friends did theirs on their 14th and 16th b'days. All 3 are still jumping, mostly incident free... My youngest brother did his first jump at 10 yrs 11 months in NZ and he will have to wait until his 14th b'day to do his next jump!?! Age is an EXTREMELY poor indicator of anything, girls mature faster than boys, age is not a determinant of experience.... Y'anyways that's my bit*h on age restrictions. Oh one more thing. I've been told that young adolescent ears stand a risk of being damaged (pressure/equalising). No idea if its true or not. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  4. Oh BS! I try not to let mine pay at all, but he won't let me! No, seriously. I've been hit on by a millionaire and my no-sh*t-honest-to-God response was: "Money can buy you many things, but it can't buy you class and it can't buy you me!" The guy was a jerk. My Dad cracked up pretty hard. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  5. Oooh! Ooooh! Pick me! Pick me!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  6. Hey I'll laugh it up with the best of 'em: have a look at my posts, but postin that as a thread versus a comment is more than a little harsh: ever recieved something like any of these? I have, and I'm a "big" (US size 8-10) girl...catch me? Y'anyways enough bad vibes, think Voltaire: I don't agree but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it! Au revior all, bed time, gotta be pretty for the party...and first load xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  7. Ok here goes: Kevin:pts were redeemable for a SSC jump ticket OR a pub crawl with me...I was even going to wear a dress. Quick-draw: Yes Jtval: Yes, see above. No: that is not a guy!!! That is Rebecca Scott trying to steal my dad's shoe (he'd already lost one taking a tandem that day!) RevJim: Yeah, they kept getting torn off by AFFies and B-RELers. Skydolphin: No. Since you all suck... competition over. It was Drew Lipinski, winner of the Ranch's pond swoop comp a few years back. If you don't know who I mean, watch the vid. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  8. As there are so many visitors kicking around Oz at the moment and I can't reach all of you: Sydney Skydiving's Xmas Party is on tomorrow night. $10 inc 3 course dinner a pool a few "ok" girls (and guys) a jump-in and the (dis)pleasure of my company! Colin Newland is organising, you can reach him via the dz number. Blue skies y'all, xj ps sorry in advance Cornishchris if I don't make first load sunday.... xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  9. Ditto. I'm over it already. Bring on the nationals!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  10. ooh sweety, no good. Kisses from downunder. Call cps. Getting hit by anyone, let alone family, is downright low. The tape recoder is a good idea, I highly recommend it as it moves it from a case of hearsay and word on word to fact. Don't let the bastards get you down. xj ps you got one coming in the mail...
  11. Umm the Talon 3 Fs mods originated here. A lot of the Talon stuff is tried here first then p/u in the US. I've got a Talon and its my baby....umm Talon 3's have been out for ages, Voodoos have been out forevere almost. I guess we just get new things a little quicker up here. Are you going to the Nats? I won't be jumping too much, I'm the Meet's dubber again. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  12. Yeah that's right up there with "Are you going bald?" "You're brother was better..." and "Is it in yet?" smart-arse! Dating a stick insect isn't fun: you feel like you're going to break 'em...and breaking someone's ribs simply by hugging them is over-rated too I'm told... I've received a comment pretty similar to that, so laughter aside, watch your comments. It may have been meant as tongue-in-cheek, but a lot of girls (and guys) are hugely insecure about their weight. Please troll a little more thoughtfully. blue skies, xj Ps Do I know you?!
  13. I did my 100th back in 2000....but I still crack up every time I see this photo: 10 points to anyone who can identify the face in the photo. He is an American jumper famous for his pond swooping.... (SKARSY jumpers: please don't give the game away!) xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

  16. hmmm or when drogues on tandems weren't looked upon favourably...when wing climbing, front mounted reserves and para-commanders were the norm?! I've been given a hard time overseas for my (then) low(er) jump numbers, but I've been around dropzones for 20 years,my Dad is a member of the 10,000 club and I only have a D licence from the 6 years I've been jumping!! I am NOT skygod material, but I do know a[i[little about skydiving xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  17. I love my Talon 2 ("Brat"). My first one was (unfortunatley) stolen a week before my conversions....not happy Jan! Its comfy, pretty....loud (orange red and purple) and freefly friendly. Did I mention that I love my talon2....I love it more than my gf..... Oh and the Talon FS? (only by PA at the moment, look out USA its on its way) I wannna have that things baby...or I'm at least hoping "Brat" does!?! Ooh thanks Parachutes Australia!
  18. I used to work in the Picton packing room; $5 student gear/owners rigs $10 tandem $6 fun jumpers Near Brisbane try Kooralbyn and Ramblers. I'm not sure if they need packers the best bet is to e-mail Tibor and McEvoy respectively and ask. I wouldn't hold your breath, but you may do quite nicely packing fun rigs over summer if you can handle the heat! blue skies xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  19. Skydiver + whuffo with control issues/no interest of own=divorce/heart-ache That said, my track-record with skydivers ain't good either (am I alone in this....no!) No, seriously, a relationship without honesty and trust is no relationship at all. If you give up jumping you will resent him for it, if you end your relationship over this alone you'll wonder about it. Sit down and talk about why he feels uneasy about you socialising with a community external to him. Have you given him flak about drinking with the boys? (HONESTLY....) If not, point this out. If you have in the past, talk. Without trust and communication, you are likely to end up in a relationship based on habit and sex more than emotional conn.ection, and that isunhealthy $0.02 from someone who's spent almost 20 years on DZ's and seen enough break-ups and divorces to keep Ricki-Lake and Jerry Springer busy for a decade or two! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  20. was. a base-jump kinda cured me! LOL. xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."

  22. It was 90knots up top Grounspeed was almost 0!! So no jumping today, funnily enough!!! It was 30 odd degrees and I spent 5 hours on my balcony wearing a sarong, sunglasses and "A primer in medical radiation physics". My blinds still haven't been erected, my neighbours gfs must love me!!! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  23. PPS The fish and chip shop ain't exactly far from the hanger! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  24. I know you're from New Zealand and that things are done a little bit differently and all over there. But exit height over here in Australia is just a little bit higher than the roof of the hanger....especially as Op Regs demand you be under canopy by 1800ft not 18 feet.....! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
  25. This is a transcript from the Australian Herald Sun about what would "appear" to be a beat-up/fly-by: Pilot survives crash By Phillip Cullen, Christine Caulfield and Mark Buttler October 31, 2002 RESCUERS worked frantically to free a pilot whose plane slammed into the roof of a fish wholesalers at Barwon Heads airport yesterday. Ambulance officers and CFA and SES volunteers donned breathing apparatus to rescue the pilot as 200 litres of aviation fuel poured out and the plane teetered in strong winds. Experienced pilot Tim James, 27, spent more than two hours trapped in the wreckage of the single-engine Cessna after it slammed into a parachuting club, lost a wing and cartwheeled nose-first into a fish shop. Ralph Hamilton-Presgrave, who was the first on the scene, said he was talking to the pilot within a couple of minutes of the crash. "He had no recollection of the events leading up to where he was," he said. "As the plane was full of fuel, the emergency services had to ensure their own safety by flooding the area with foam. He's a very, very lucky young man." Authorities said hundreds of people visited the airport on weekends and a crash then could have been a "catastrophe". The owner and retail manager of JLI Australia Seafoods were at the rear of the store when the roof caved in around them. Owner Michael James, who is not related to the injured pilot, said he was standing where the plane hit only 10 seconds before. "We are so lucky there were not many people in the building. It is just amazing. It just blew it apart," Mr James said. "It just hit the roof. I was up there 10 seconds before the plane hit. "I just smelt the (aviation) gas and got out of there." Retail manager Chris Schepers said he heard the roar of an engine and saw the plane crash. Mr Schepers, 21, suffered a cut requiring four stitches when he was hit on the head by falling debris. "I hit the deck. I yelled out to see if Michael was all right but I couldn't hear him and there was fuel pouring out everywhere," he said. "From what everyone has told me, I'm surprised that I'm still here. If it had been on a weekend . . . there are hundreds of people there." Mr Schepers thanked a passing nurse, Robyn, for treating his injuries before ambulance officers arrived. Insp Tim Attrill, of Geelong police, said the plane had taken off moments before banking sharply to the left and crashing about 11am. Rescuers helped Mr James into a cradle and winched him from the wreckage. He was flown by helicopter to the Alfred Hospital where he was last night in a stable condition. He had suffered only a broken femur, possibly broken pelvis and lower leg injuries. "He was unlucky in the first instance that it happened but he was extremely lucky in the second instance to only have what appeared to be moderate injuries," said rural ambulance spokesman Terry Baulch. Mr James had travelled to Victoria to pick up the Cessna to use it for a major skydiving event in Goulburn next month. The plane's owner John Ferrara said he was initially told Mr James had been killed and was deeply relieved to hear of his survival. Mr Ferrara said Mr James was a fine pilot who would have done everything he could to minimise accident damage. "He's the best pilot I've got. He's a good mate. I don't care about the plane. You can't get another Tim," he said. Mr Ferrara said the plane had a near-new engine with about 150 hours of flying on the clock. Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson said it would investigate whether any aviation safety rules had been broken and hoped to speak to Mr James when he recovered. -Herald Sun Agreed, I've been in planes doing beat-ups as we've left to fly home...That said, I know that it still just serves as another reminder that we need to think a little harder of the consequences of our, often crazy and incredibly stupid behaviour. So I raise the question: Should beat-ups be banned (or in this case, should the bans be enforced?). xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
