Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
If your only at the DZ on days that you jump, how are you gaining "experience"? If someone manages to get 500 jumps in a year I think he has the same ability to gain experience and knowlege as someone who manages to get 500 jumps in 7 years. Perhaps in some cases, more so. Im not saying your wrong Im just stating my opinion. -
Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
A friend of mine and I were having a discussion last night about the three years in sport requirement for a tandem instructors rating. Do you think its necessary to be in the sport 3 years before becomming a tandem instructor? Why/why not? Personally, Im not sure I agree with it, if someone comes into the sport and lets say with a year has the means and the time to make 500 jumps why should he/she have to wait two more years to get their ratings? Compare a guy/girl who comes in the sport and makes 500 jumps in a year, they would meet the minimum jump #s but couldnt get their ratings. Now lets compare them to someone whos been in the sport 7 years and only has 500 jumps, which of these 2 skydivers would you consider to be more current? If you would say the skydiver who has only been in the sport 1 year, why should he/she be denied the chance to get a tandem rating because they dont have 3 years in the sport? Just looking for some opinions here. -
I must agree.

not to beat a dead horse but; in a previous post someone mad a comment about using the thumb screw vs a stroboframe to secure a still camera inverted, Is anyone or has anyone just used the thumbscrew to secure a camera inverted to there helmet. Any thoughts as to how secure of a method this is? any bad experience? I would tend to think it really would not be a problem but I thought I'd ask.

Still camera lens showing up in video
freefalle replied to vdschoor's topic in Photography and Video
okay, maybe it is only 2 inches, but its long enough to hang the still camera inverted from. So maybe I can't measure, dont tell my girlfriend I just got her convinced........ -

I know it might be a pain in the ass seeing how you just got every thing in but you could just order the longer base plate from bonehead, remove the current plate you have the still mounted to and the mount the still upside down to the new base plate (it sticks out about 4 inches from the front of the helmet) thats what I did with mine and it works great -
vertical vs horizontal mounting of stills
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Photography and Video
anyone have an opinion as to which is better or more prefered? I have my digital still mounted vertically on top of my flat top pro it works okay there but I wanted to see what other folks thought of that. -
almost every gear manufacture out there has had or does have an engenieer or other employee/designer that has worked forone of the top maunfactures. Its the nature of the industry. I think that to a point all rigs are cross bread and for the most part, with a few exceptions, all rigs are of good design. Many people buy rigs out of personal preference or company loyalty or because "someone" told them one rigs is better than another. I think deleivery time is also a major factor. I jump a mirage, I like my mirage, why did I buy my mirage, well to be honest because my girlfrind worked there and I got a good deal on it. My next rig will be a vector, why? Because my girlfriend works there and I'll probably get a good deal on it..... And AggieDave is right, there skyhook kicks ass!

Why skydivers are great! (the story of the lost ring)
freefalle replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
a similar thing happened to me this weekend, Money for all of us is tight, Im back in college full time and working a job that doesn't pay a whole lot. I managed to scrape together a little over 100.00 to get some jumps in for this past weekend. I was down at Titusville and sometime after my first jump, I lost 100.00 bill, I was sick I figured my weekend was done and started gathering my gear. Just for the hell of it, I checked at manifest, someone found and turned in my money. Thank God for honest people! -
2:5:1 Kick ass weekend, got back to titusville, havent been there in a while, made some new friends and got to go on my 1st hybrid. It was a blast!

I know its early but I'm trying to plan my boogies. Does anyone know if the Keys boogie is happening this year. I'd like to go but I thought I read something last year that they might not be doing it again for a while. Anybody know???
-
depends how you want to mount it if you want it horizontal a stroboframe will work nicely. If you want a vertical mount I would suggest checking out hardware designed by Wes Rich of RIM WORLD VIDEO in deland I "think" hes got a web site.

I think a diversity in skydiving disciplines is a good idea, I shoot alot of video but recently Ive been leaving the camera suit in the bag and getting out on some rw and sit fly jumps. Its been a nice change!
