  1. "sounds like what he lacks in social skills he makes up for in intensity,"...."Is he an engineer, by chance? " Harrumph, pout, sulk, no fair..... Engineers need their kicks and their lovin' too ya know. Sounds to me that this guy might have a promising career in the adventure equipment retail sector... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. What Paul said above would be a good idea. You can also read up on movie making techniques, rules of thumb for framing, continuity, "crossing the line", how to put together a wee movie that actually starts to be watchable, etc. There are loads of movie making sites that will tell you what an establishing shot is, the difference between a pan and a zoom, what a dutch tilt is etc etc etc..... One thing that is quite enjoyable is to watch as many videos as you can and see what works and what doesn't, similarly start browsing online libraries to see what shots impress and which ones are just another snap. The Potographer's galleries here are great for that. Its generally accepted that you should be at least competent at flying the discipline you intend to film, before you try and film it. Sounds obvious, I know, but you'd be surprised....... Once you combine your flying skills with a vision of the shot you want, and how to achieve it, you will find things a lot less frustrating. I've never heard of a specific camera flying school per se, but I'm sure if you approached a respected camera flier, offered beer, and slots they will film and critique you just like any other coach.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. What Rob said, besides you will scuff stain and generally abuse gear as you learn. You may as well bad news somebody elses stuff, they are charging you for it anyways. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. Woah, slow down a little, you are about to start your AFF? I would wait until you have done a few jumps or are about 3/4 way through. Then you will know what you want, what questions to ask, and what might be suitable. Chat it through with your instructors etc. You wouldn't go out and buy a car without first passing your test would you? Youwon't be able to jump your own rig for a while anyway so just go canny for a bit. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. right then. You don't have to cut it, you can wrassle it, or you can cut the line, or you can chop the main. I've been in this situation twice under the same 1.6-ish loaded spectre. First time was over a very familiar DZ, I wrassled it, cleared it and landed off (plan B was to wrassle it then at a 'certain height' if not clear cut the line and rear riser it). Second time was during my first visit to a DZ, the winds were gusty with unfamiliar and wierd turbulence, I chopped the main and hit the ressie. Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer chances. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "how you would mount a JVC since there are no D-boxes available for them. Additionally, you can't use a Cam-eye nor Firewire." Gawd only knows how cameras were mounted before D-boxes were invented. Its not just Sony's that are equipped with LANC (cam eye socket) or Firewire (aka iLink, or IEEE 1394). Plenty other cameras out there have these. I've seen some nice footage from non sony cams. But I would recommend sony over just about anything until we start to look at serious (professional) cameras. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. How much money do you have to spend? Are you going to be staying in the UK for long? IE would you prefer PAL or NTSC cameras, or even both. Do you need stills, and do you intend to try and recoup some of your investment, or are you just filming for fun? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. It has to have an international flavour, some natty photoshopping, and definitely not contain a poll. Of course, the mother of all threads should spawn threadlets, polls, and should span a couple of the forums. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. "I thought we were going to have an interesting story to read about how you landed in some bushes! " I heard if your not living on the hedge, your taking up too much space? 15. Get some electrical insulating tape in a contrasting colour and put a couple of 'stripes' on it, till you can get either a piece of fabric/binding tape sewn on etc, or the thing changed out. Its a quick fix and probably won't last long. Be wary of swapping with your pals, make sure the cable lengths are the same. Too short is bad, too long is bad. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. I've seen vectors, and commonly xeroxs (vector copies) with 'Crew bars' fitted which might have prevented this Good catch nevertheless though!.
  17. "I like the yellow handles hanging off the back " If its a dolphin, those handles are probably toggles....
  18. Is this a Poll Troll? "This ain't no democracy!" So vote away fools, it won't make a blind bit of difference.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. Bear in mind that a flight line check of nonstudent skydivers will not pick up a Cypres that is switched off on most relatively modern gear, or poptops. The Cypres controller is in the backpad. I suppose this is a relatively good thing as its position not only makes it difficult to check, it makes it even more difficult for those that are hard of learning to switch it on. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
