  1. "Download a program called soudforge," Soundforge IS good, but something this simple can be done with Premiere, or its equivalent, speak with your local camera flier and they will probably be able to help. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. As Alex said, the max pull force allowable is 22lbs under UK regs, it is also a requirement for the rigger to record the pull force at time of packing. We have a slightly different packing procedure, in that we not only fill out the wee card that is stashed in your reserve flap, there is also a full inspection report sheet which goes into much more detail, recording reserve pull force, and other inspection details. Oh and we have a six month repack cycle. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. Welcome back, gear has moved on a little huh? You may get better answers to this issue on the safety and training forum. Basically people will tell you that its all about muscle memory. Fret not, the solution is relatively simple, put the rig on, cinch it up etc, and lie face down on the floor, or bed whatever is comfy, now do those practise arch, reach pulls. I won't ask you to look for the hackey, chances are you can't see it. Practice, practice, practice, till you are confident, then do some more. Pretty soon your muscles will remember where the handle is (it will become second nature to you) and you can focus more on enjoying the experience. Hackeys can burble around a little bit in freefall, so make sure when the pilot chute is packed that the mouth of the spandex is nice and tight, and only the hackey and the little tape attachment are showing. If you are jumping unfamiliar or brand new kit, it's worthwhile doing some practice touches way up high in freefall, it will help you build confidence, and may save some frantic grabbing at pull time. Once again, welcome back. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. "I got one for you. Are Manatees native to florida waters? " Manatees are one of four living species in the Order Sirenia, which also includes the West African manatee, the Amazonian manatee, and the dugong. The Manatees in Florida are known as West Indies Manatees, they are closely related to the West African Manatee. They are migratory, and can be found as far west as Alabama, even eastern Texas, as far north as Virginia and the Carolinas, and in the south can be found in inland waterways of Central America and the northern regions of South America. Whether they are native to the region? I don't really know if any migratory species can be described as native to any particular region, suffice to say the English declared the Florida region as a Manatee sanctuary (banned the hunting of these creatures) as far back as the 1700's, which, if I recall correctly was before you guys even had a government. So I'm guessing that manatees have been around longer than power boat owners, and people who spend 90 days a year on the water. So I have answered to the best of my knowledge one of your questions, even though you asked four. Quid quo pro mofo, get me an estimate of the Sox, Nox and Tox emmissions from the offshore developments in the Gulf region, failing that an estimate of the tonnage of CO2 emmisions, and I'll do the chemistry for you.... Kyoto accord.... "Because it's based on bad research." What? Are you saying that greenhouse gas, and particulate emissions have no effect on the environment? Well fuck me, I guess the rest of the world is wrong and the US is right, again. By the way, I would have answered you sooner, but one of my clients (Kerr Mcgee, the first company to put rigs offshore in the gulf) have a problem with one of their floating production units which I'm trying to fix for them. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "Oh well.. Nac lemme know what'cha want. I can get it shipped to ya next week. " I'll pm you a shipping address for the main, and the spare container. I didn't want them back under these cicumstances, but I understand what your going through. No biggie. We all need a time out occasionally. I'll re-unite this gear with its reserve, and maybe it will help another fledgling find their wings. Right now I can't use the X-box, if you want it fine, if not, offer it to a kids' home/charity/AOT/sell it and save the kittens, whatever. It has served its purpose. Slappie, you were a friend to me in Texas, you've got a friend in Aberdeen, whether your jumping or not, if ever you get sent over here. I have a litre of Jagermeister in the cupboard with your name on it!.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "Well speaking as one who spends about 75-90 days a year on the water. I have forgot more than the average manatee hugging and clueless environmentalists will ever know about what goes on out there. I see the big picture, because I'm out there." As a clueless manatee hugger who has spent most of his, to date 20 year, working life on these things; IE up to 240 days a year, in just about every sphere of operation, from the the Arctic circle, to the Ivory coast, from the jungle of Venezuela, to the ice bound seas of Sakhalin Island, I'd say, speaking as an average 'clueless environmentalist', that I am a little more knowledgable than your tireseome generalisation might suggest. It really is a shame you have forgotten so much more than I will ever know, I was wanting to ask you a few things, such the Sox, Nox, and Tox, limits in the Gulf. Have you any idea what the current US standards are on oil in discharged produced water? Does it vary from state to state? EG Alaska vs the Gulf? Maybe an estimate of the tonnage of CO and CO2 production per annum for the Gulf region, and what if any, initiatives were underway in the area to draw your country into line with the rest of the world on greenhouse gas emmissions. Or is your government still steadfastly opposed to the Kyoto accord? And why have they adopted this stance? Put it this way, Khazakhstan has tighter oilfield environmental legislation than you do. I know, because I've worked on projects there as well. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. "How many jump because they have an innate, secret longing to be fly like birds rather than just compete with others and perform mid-air acrobatics because it's 'fun'?" Birds like to flock together too, there is nothing like seeing the smile on your friends' faces as you fly around the sky. The "acrobatics" aren't necessarily competitive. They are means of demonstrating your mastery of flight to other members of the flock, and can be described almost as a dance in the sky with your pals. Many people do describe this skydancing as an intrinsic part of skydiving, without the competitive element. I guess what I'm trying to say is that solo and group flying needn't be mutually exclusive. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. Okay, if we agree on 'stains' and not differentiate on their origin, I think we have a deal. At the current rate, that will be 4 'stains' a day, you'd better get busy Gerb! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. I'm satisfied Gerb, unfortunately my Legion of Libel Lawyers have been set in motion, and have already incurred huge expenses in their pusuit of justice. I will call off the Lawdogs in the interests of trans-Celtic harmony, however the money you have saved up to pay for the recommencement of your AFF will probably go straight into their pockets. I will inform you of the actual sum involved in this out of court settlement in due course. Via horribly expensive lawyer's letter, of course. I'm prepared to waive all expenses, and forget this whole sorry affair, if you sign yourself over to being Mininac's packing bitch for the duration of his jumping career! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. If the sponsor is a whuffoe, he won't know the difference between a foil and a crossfire, he will be looking for the overall effect. Look also at windblades, banners at the DZ, stickers on the plane so the camera sees it, and big packing tarps with his logo etc on it. Good deal if it comes off for you Jarno. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. "I seem to remember the term was used when I was jumping in the mid-70's....eeeeekkkk DISCO..... boogies....has to have a correlation... " Oh no, please don't label 'Boogie' with just the 70 's music and the chaos of bad affros and platform shoes, not to mention the terror of polyester clothing....shivvers......ah the horror , the horror..... 'Boogie' has been around for a lot longer than that, Mr John Lee Hooker was Boogie Chillen' in the late 40's I believe.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. You did your tandem at Brunton, but you live in Glenrothes, both Errol (Dundee) and St Andrews DZs are way closer if you want to continue jumping, or hang out at a DZ. Or was there another reason for jumping at Brunton? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. With this unusually high (or any amount for that matter) amount of lead, I'd make sure I could ditch it in a hurry, just in case of a water landing. The downside is...its got to be secure, so it doesn't fall off in freefall. 66lbs of lead is a lot, hell, 33 pounds is a lot, are you sure your jump buddies aren't teasing you, or wearing slick suits? You are arching aren't you? You are wearing a fast suit? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 25. "Apparently that isn't the sporting license though. I believe Pete Knight telling me that he had to get a special license for the 300 way" Yep that's the case, however in Thailand, where Pete needed his, they spent a day checking everyone's certs and licenses, and where necessary they did them on the spot. An FAI D license is an incredibly useful thing to have anyways. Jumping at different DZs internationally is way easier than showing logbooks, and explaining different national license requirements. I have never had to show my logbook at a new DZ since I got mine many years ago. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
