  1. Of course a million UK pennies would be about 3/4 that size but its still a lot. Buddy can you spare some change? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "Until then, parents and students organized separate proms for whites and blacks after school officials stopped sponsoring dances, in part because they wanted to avoid problems arising from interracial dating." Eh? wtf? I hope they organise the hall, get the band, etc, then nobody turns up! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. Iron Jack Kidd A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you are that person. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr! Pass the Cap'n Morgan's Spiced over here you lollygagging landlubbers. Aaargh me hearties. Now bring out the serving wench, the buxom lass with a fire in her eyes..haaar! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. "Check out the 0.3 diamond lenses sold by Max Cohn of Generation Freefly. The big advantage to Diamond lenses is that they are not big, rather: low profile. " And your supporting a fellow skydiver, thats got to count for something. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. Think yourself lucky, I'm trying really hard to have a mid crisis life! Ya gotta hang around at the day job at least long enough to raise the loot for your POPS membership. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. "I walked to school in the snow with no shoes on uphill both ways . I'd also carry eggs up ten flights of stairs for a nickel......... " You were lucky. I remember the tumbleweed my dad sold to me on my 5th birthday. He told me it was a puppy. I used to have to drag it up chimneys to pay for my supper. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "You can't legislate for a lack of common sense." Absolutely, but you can stop the fools getting on your plane. The application of common sense then becomes a commercial decision. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "Yeah, but you have to be like a geek or something to be able to figure out how to do all that." Ouch, not fair, not nice, evil Skyluddite! Actually its quite easy, I click on the icon thingies in the explorer thingie, drag them onto the synching folder thingie, then press the wee button thingie on the PDA cradle. How the images jump down the cable thingie is a mystery to me. And I'm totally bamboozled by the IR transfer thingie. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. "The police have recoverd some property so fingers crossed eh" Fingers crossed, virgins sacrificed, black cats stroked, anything for a bit of luck for a change! Hope you get some shit back, maybe you'll have a second hand MD player for sale? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 11. Interesting point Tash. The other difference I've seen between the UK and the US, is that our CCIs are much more willing to pull jumpers to one side and have a word in their small and shell like. They even ground people who are flying outside their skill envelope, normally after several warnings. I'm pretty sure the US equivalent S&TA, has similar powers, but I believe they are a little more reluctant to exercise them. Perhaps for fear of being labelled a nazi, perhaps for commercial reasons. Its draconian, I'll grant you, but it might work if the safety people and DZ operators got a little tougher on people who are intent on flying in a 'dangerous' manner. If regulation comes they will have to fill this 'policing' role anyway, so why not self regulate in advance. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. "I jump a Hornet 150. When I bought it, I meant to be loading it at 1:1, but I gained enough weight to load it at almost 1.2:1. " I know how you feel Jess,, but I'm guessing you didn't expand overnight, and the weight gain might have been over a period of time while you were jumping.... So its a gradual thing, and not a step change, so its prgression in a round about way.. I can't help you with the actual percentage increase, sorry. As for Quade and Relyon. As far as I'm concerned, the accpeted norm for describing wingloading is 1.6:1 format, or even just 1.6 Regardless of whether thats actually technically specific or not, its the accepted norm. As for describing a wing loading beyond 1 decimal number, well I believe thats kinda pointless as the parachute industry haven't agreed on how they measure surface areas. And don't get me started on lbs/sqft versus kg/sqm. Sheesh guys the rest of the world works with a decimal metric system, get with the programme..... But again as the accepted norm is lbs/sqft, I guess the rest of the civilised world will just have to get dragged along with it. Just my 0.0178964 EUR worth. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. "any chance that the bridle might get arround your neck?" Soembody poke Howard with a stick so he posts some pics....Sorry H, just joshing... From memory it would be extremely unlikely to get a bridle around your neck, unless it worked loose and somehow came out from inside the crown of the helmet. I suppose it could happen if you tried to chop it head down, which would be a bizarre helmet entanglement scenario. Again from memory the bridle was similar to a pull out system on rigs. The cutaway handle had a wee lanyard attached to a d-bag which housed the drogue, the drogue bridle was mainly stowed inside the d-bag, and was attached to the front forehead area of the helmet, the bridle routing was 100%internal. The cutaway handle first released the chinstraps, then deployed the drogue via the d-bag which remained attached to the cutaway handle. All this is from memory guys, I haven't jumped or closely examined a Leo since about 96, so some of these details maybe clouded by the onset of alzheimers. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. Thanks for the link Stu, hmmmm, "one click to dvd" sounds like its that rotten compression system we saw on the microMV cameras. If so I would be wary of these. It means you can't firewire digital footage between these and 'regular' dvcams. I may be wrong, I've been wrong before, but I'd hold off on the excitement till we see some tests, ar get to play with one in a store. True 16:9 sounds very nice though. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. Okay, things I've done for money, and am prepared to talk about on a public forum... In a sort of chronological order. Part time/summer college/school jobs..... Soft fruit /and potato picking/ general farm labouring. Barman/ bouncer. Industrial cleaner. Condiments mixer...I made the sauce for tinned baked beans. Retort operator...I cooked the beans too. Gravedigger / gardener. Mountain guide/ranger. Deer stalker/grouse beater. Coastguard...cliff /vessel rescue team. Real or full time jobs. Shot blaster/painter. Fire equipment test and inspection technician. Offshore construction supervisor. Design draughtsman/engineer. Design squad leader/checker. Project engineer. Offshore survey engineer. Offshore commisioning engineer. Packer, camera flier, DZ handy person (there was a slump in the oil industry). Design engineer. Survey engineer. Safety inspector. Commisioning and test engineer. Design consultant. Safety advisor/consultant/post whore. This is where I am now, but I'm not so proud that I can't go back and do any of my earlier jobs again if I have to. I suppose I should include graphics design, and video editing somewhere as I have been paid for those, if only on a hobby type basis. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. Jess, the other girls rock. Yes Ma'am, absolutely, no doubt about it, but you RAWK!. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  18. Okay, seeing as how you asked..... Why do you need a hard copy? If its just for your own records fine, but if you have a PC at home, whats the point? If its so you can have a copy that you can refer to at the DZ, thats fine also. Me? I have a neat wee PDA which is really just a posh MP3 player. I have Acrobat, Excel, and Word readers on it, so I have a memory stick with the protrack and dytter manuals, my Odessy manual, my Canopy manual, my camera and portable DVdeck manuals, and various other cool documents I probably have no need whatsoever for. I also have a back up logbook, with scans of my licenses, membership cards, rig inspection history, etc too. I don't maintain a paper log book anymore, are you getting the picture?. Speaking of which it also has pics of the Minime on it, and if the loads are running slow I can chill to my choons, or watch videos from skydivingmovies.com on it too. Its a Sony Clie and its about the size of a music tape cassette. You need a PC to process the files for it though.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. I find "the Mole" from Thunderbirds does the job just nicely, gets those hard to reach crevices. 20. "There are only a few of us here with access to the proper tools. Rgoper and NacMac work on oil drilling rigs." Hehehe... 21. Shall we open a book to predict when the 500,000th post will be? currently its at 462816.... 22. Reported uses are given as... "nuclear medical imaging, radiation treatment planning, surgical planning for doctors visualizing angiogram data or to more precisely locate tumor on an x-ray, CAT scan, or mammogram; air-traffic control; 3D game development; and security, visualizing the contents of freight or passenger luggage" Nice to see the true value of technology.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 23. Lose the Joe Cocker, its on my stoning list. 24. Och I'm sorry Wendy, sometimes people here wind me up a little. I fear that the guys over there will have to deal with a lot of this. Our people have had a lot of experience of this sort of thing in Northern Ireland. What do you do when you are faced with a crowd of kids throwing stones at you? A fat lot of use your M16 and various other implements of shock and awe firepower is then..... Definitely not an easy slot. Power without control is a dangerous thing. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 25. My problem is this Kevin, I want one, but I can't justify it, I have a protrack, and toys for it, (plus a prodytter and a timeout). I generally try and avoid getting wet, and seldom jump at night. I don't train students, but I can see its usefullness in that role. I have no reason to expect anything but competitive service from Alti-2. But if it had Tetris.... I guess I'm suffering from gear lust.
