  1. "roughshod, come on, perhaps you would like to live under SH's rule, not me." Maybe the 30 or so civilians shot in recent protests might have a different opinion. What does Fox have to say about that, and why didn't you post that news with your usual glee..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. Okay, your forgiven, I'll not throw stones at you... moreover, I'll even help. Search the forums for 'music' and you'll get a pretty good idea of what the people here listen to. Me? I have eclectic tastes in choonz, but some of these might work. 1999-Binary Finery For an Angel--don't know Today-Smashing Pumpkins Beautiful day--U2 Higher --Creed Blurry--Puddle of Mudd Sandstorm--Darude I Choose--Offspring -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. No offence, but if I was at a boogie and someone put on that 'Learning To Fly' song by Tom Petty, I would throw stones at them! From John Mayo's newsround... "DJ Rich T The well known skydivers’ DJ, Rich T will be playing at the Espace Boogie and the Swedish Freefly Festival this year. For those who can’t make it, Rich has started a private CD club for jumpers. Members pay an admin fee to the club of £10 per month. They are sent two CDs each month; one is a mixed dance CD and the other a straight compilation of new singles which have just been released. Richie has also offered to assist teams compiling a ‘vibes’ video with suitable music. Tel: 07734 219737 djtune.raider@ntlworld.com " Richie does a stonking set. 4. "it's got some other nifty features i can't talk too much on (i don't know too much detail) but it switches modes based on what you're doing" Tetris? I don't know what other nifty features I need to pay for. I guess what I'm driving at Kevin is this...does it do anything usefully different than a Protrack, or altimeter? Waterproof is useful under certain circumstances. Longer recording time is useful. A bleeping altimeter is not useful... If you see what I mean?... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. "You're such a nice, helpful man. Don't you have a dark side?" Yes, but she doesn't skydive.. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  6. So, is this another Cali thing, if so good fortune and fair winds to the Dropzonedotcom record attempts... To paraphrase another fine flying lady (Mary Poppins) Supercalisgoballistictexansareattrocious. Gee I wish Aggiedave was here... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. "I think America is going to discover being the mature parental unit watching over all the immature cultures is a loser's job. Are we an empire or global day-care" I have to laugh at the term "Immature Culture", especially when applied to area where Babylon was founded, and the areas around the Tigris and Euphrates. I'll grant you "different culture", but for a "culture" that is a little over, what 200 years old to call another which is what, a little over 3000 yrs old, "immature" is risable. And if the US is becoming an empire...well that explains a lot of things. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. Okay Sean,I'm not get all techno on ya, everyone else has done an admirable job of that already. Sometimes its best not to think abut why, just focus on the how..... Ways to speed up, wear weight, get a more 'slick' suit material, change your body position, or change your attitude (oreintation) to the wind. Ways to go slower Lose weight, get a 'rougher' suit, get a suit that dramatically changes your body shape, like a wingsuit, a baggy suit, or a birdman suit, or change your body position or attitude (orientation) to the wind. Some of these you can do to minor effect during a skydive, (changing body position) others may have to be considered when you are gearing up for dive (wearing weight or selecting the right suit). All are useful and have a part to play in skydiving. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. "Does anyone know of any manufacturers of FreeFly Suits or Pants within the UK ?" Why yes..... http://www.original-lizard.com/flash.htm and http://www.symbiosis.suits.btinternet.co.uk/ Alternatively phone the DZs around London, you can get their contact details from the BPA homepage, or the back of the mag, and ask what they have 'in stock'. I can only say good things abut Symbi, and I hear Chappie at Original Lizard makes some wikkid gear, cool hats no doubt about it. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. My first instinct was to go with the adrenaline thing, it looks about right, but this page says no... http://www.chemindustry.com/chemicals/search/A/adrenaline.asp According to that page adrenaline is C9H13NO3, but I do steel, so what do I know? Now its bugging me...
  11. "i hope whoever stole it burns in." No, not at all Rich, I hope whoever pilfered my wee pal's rig ends up at her mercy. I'm pretty sure that Doc Sherry has some interesting and novel things to do to gear thieving scumbags. The sort of thing that involves the curious looking implements she normally reserves for young male animals..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. "We are rounding the thugs up and will deal with them when found." Of course 'we' are.... "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." - Bush, 9/13/01 "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." - Bush, 3/13/02 "I am truly not that concerned about him." - Bush, 3/13/02 -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. To avoid floating along ignorantly...check out the links here.... http://www.dropzone.com/gear/articles/ http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/archive/gear/smartarchive.cgi?vc=Manuals Look at wings, and racer manuals, also any of the PD manuals. Packing is just the beginning, you should also familiarise yourself with gear checking, a bit like the pre flight check an instructor might have given you prior to boarding the plane. Good stuff here http://www.dropzone.com/safety/resources/safetychecklist/ and here http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/articles/apr97/flightlinecheck.htm and here http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/articles/aug96/lookafteryourkit.htm THeres a glossary here, http://www.dropzone.com/safety/resources/handbook/gloss2.shtml It may seem like a lot to take in, but most of it is plain old common sense. Oh and thanks to HH for storing a lot of this stuff on his site,
  14. "You've actually seen somebody with something like this installed on his camera helmet?" I have Paul, as I described above the Leo Dickinson camera helmet was an early model purpose built helmet and it came with a built in pilot chute drogue thingie as standard. The drogue was deployed by the cutaway system. These helmets were very popular here in the UK about 10 years ago. It was the first 'commercial' helmet I ever jumped.
  15. "Okay, I've looked at every chemical compound site I can find...what the heck is C17H21NH4?" Its either Saddam's zip code, Osama Bin Laden's (who?) hotmail password, or its the formula for adrenaline. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. Jraf is tiered, its like layers, many layers with different flavours, its a bit like ogres, ogres are like onions, they have layers........ -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. "You need to add some more detail to your numbers before you draw such broad lines" Okay, the way I see it is, regardless of the stats, these are AVOIDABLE incidents. On that I think we all agree. What everyone is striving for here is to find a way, a means, a strategy to avoid them. Me ? I'm not sure what the answers are. Peer pressure. Unofficial dropzone regulation. Official governing body regulation. Regulation of equipment suppliers, both private and commercial. Of the above I know which one appeals to me more right now. The trouble is, making it work before the other options have to be considered. I'll probably have to end up living with all the options in some form or another. More hassle. This is a cool thread, I wish Aggiedave was here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. "I find it amazing that an 11 jump paranoid and a dude with a bad tude can run off someone who actually added value to so many threads. " True sister, True... I never figured the Aggie for a quitter, I always thought he was a better man than that. Is he back yet? I shall taunt him till he returns. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. "I just don't ever think I will need my reserve due to a shitty pack job......................... The only other thing I fear will ever get me under a reserve is being knocked unconscious and a cypress save." I'm not having a go at you Freaky, but there are other things to think about.... I'd consider structural failure of the main itself, or brake or suspension lines. Its happened to me. Death spiral due to twists, especially if you are prone to dislocations (dropped shoulder). A buried hackey or hard pull, again think about your dislocation issues. I saw a buried hackey on a world record attempt so it can happen to anyone. Premature deployment of reserve. Low aircraft emergency. Canopy collision and/or wrap. And some others that peeps will no doubt add. edit my ressie is bigger than my main. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. "The first one being that almost everyone I talked to at the time had a smaller reserve than their main" Are you kidding me? Would everyone agree that this goes against averages in todays crowd of skydivers in a large way? --------------------------- The Lady said 'at the time' which was also the case when I got my first gear..... Although nowadays thoughts on this have changed, like you say. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. Speculative....IIRC there was, and still is insufficient evidence to sway the countries that have power of veto. If you know differently please enlighten me. Of course the other countries that did not have the veto may have been swayed by the offer of aid packages. However a single veto would have scuppered the legality of any use of force. Without the second resolution, the argument boils down to the definition of 'serious consequences'. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
