I am NOT stretching anything and the firefighting is the very first thing I linked in 1996 - prior to knowing anything about his multiple criminal record. Himmelsbach and the FBI should be able to attest to that. My early communications do exactly that - in the form of a letters and phone calls to Himmelsbach - I didn't really talk to the actual FBI very much - because the new agents didn't know much about Cooper. Perhaps the biggest mistake I made was NOT going public in 1996 rather than going to the FBI. There might have been a lot more answers received while the others were still alive. BUT, no - stupid naive JO trusted the FBI to do what they are supposed to do - INVESTIGATE. Yet, in March of 2000 - the FBI hadn't done a DARN thing. They didn't even know Duane's background - I had more information than they did and/or the agent of record in 2000 deliberately lied. I did NOT imagine the things I saw and held in my hands nor did I MISUNDERSTAND what he said. Trying to get anyone to address the truth or getting any help with the things I need to bring this to an end - is like beating a dead horse. Well, I am physically and mental worn out. I just hope and pray that the truth will be known someday. I have been trying to find out what happened to the old family journals - probably in a dump somewhere. If I had gone public in 1996 instead of going to the FBI. The guys who knew Duane as John Collins where still alive - Tony and Tommy. His ex-wiife was still alive. His step-daughter was still alive (I have her on tape saying she KNEW Duane was Cooper). His brother and sister were still alive and alert. I trusted the system and where did it get me - 13 yrs of humiliation and being called a liar over and over and over? I swear to all of you and before GOD if he even exists that I have NOT lied. Yes, a lot got lost in all of the theories and criminal records that I learned about - I just did what the FBI didn't do. When I go back to what I informed the FBI of in that 1st yr or so - where more than likely the connection lies - I am again spoofed and made fun of. I did not imagine or misunderstand anything that Duane said. I have tried to put together the things he said with his background and for that - the world condemns me as a liar. Well, I am not and hopefully IF there is a darn GOD out there the truth will be known. If any of you really want the truth then - find early information about the firefighters and pilots in CA in the late 30's. Force the FBI to open the file on Duane from 1942 to 1950. Show all the court records and the names of the individuals who assisted the family at that time and were instrumental in the family's move from Ohio to CA. I started this post bawling and now I am just plain angry, but when I get off the computer, I am sure I will cry some more as many of you have made this all seem so futile. Is there anyone of you and those that read this thread that actually think I gave UP my life and what I could have done with my life to chase LIES? Or to probagate lies? Or to be humiliated and made fun of? NO - I am not dislusional and do any of you think I like to keep on and on being a whipping horse. If I was lieing I would have stepped down from all of this yrs ago. Probably the worst part of this was being called a liar for things I could prove did happen. Nothing any of you have said in this forum could hold a candle to the abuse I took from Jerry Thomas. ..in that 40 minute conversation and a prior conversation yrs ago. As most of you know I rarely have a drink, but tonight I have had 1/2 a bottle of wine so taking my meds is out of the question. I bought this bottle to celebrate a Good day - not to have to continue to defend myself. I hope NONE of you ever have to be in my positiion - to have to defend your very being everyday of your life. Duane spent 17 yrs in prison and I have spent 13 yrs in a different kind of prison...the jury has been hung for 13 yrs ... and the crime is ONLY almost 38 yrs old. Is had been almost 29 yrs since he and I made that trip to Wa. and I am able to remember it like it was last yr - not many of you young whipper snappers can remember what you did a yr ago much less 28 yrs ago. One he was wearing before I met him and the other one I bought him I only found out after the fact. That could well be true with the one he had but not the one I gave him. I wasn't worried about the FBI "stealing" the watch - I kept things because it is the nature of a widow to hold on to something of her husbands. He was always guarded about the watch he had when I married him - I have described it before in this thread or the other thread. I had no idea that Sluggo was interviewing me for the forum. I thought it was a private thing and exchange and not for the public. I had been talking to Sluggo for yrs (I didn't know him as Sluggo)before the forum ever came into being. I have not tried to alienate anyone and I came to the DZ site looking for information about the subject matter and it has been extremely helpful. Duane Weber could have with his record have confessed to many crimes or involvements - why choose to confess to me something I knew little about? Also the fact that he used the name Dan Cooper in his confession. He could have told me that he fired the shot from the grassy knoll in 1963 - at least I would have known what he was talking about. When other people have their MONEY invested in the things currently being worked on, I can't put it out there until we have finished and have it ALL together. I hand to the thread what I can...I have said we are waiting on a very important interview. I do throw out there things that others might be able to help with - such as the SLC photo and this Ed Huran guy. There are things that would be an invasion of the privacy of others that cannot be used until those individuals agree to their information being made publilc...some of this was acquired at a great deal of expense and effort. Is Cook sharing his sources? Is Gray Sharing his sources? Do either of them make available their research except where it benefits them? I am extremely sorry if anyone and everyone is offended. I will ask ONE more time if anyone has any information regarding air- a-robic in Ca in the 30 and what kind of shows were being put on. Also any pictures of these events and the people involved. This goes for the early stages of the Derry group in Ca. Any pictures of Derry or any of his group from 1935 to 1945 that has not been in books. Again look at this attached photo from the 30's - the young man in glasses and the older man. I know who 5 of the indiviuals are - but I am trying to connect this photo with events in CA during that time.,,,guessing the date approx 1932 to 1936. What I think: The older woman who is seated was related to one of the groups involved in the 1930 CA airplane and jumping events and the early developement in the forestry preservation and firefighting. The Webers had lost the family home in Ohio and Mr. Weber had lost his job. In 1942 the Ca connection made arrangements for Mr. Weber (Duane's father ) to run a paint store in Ca. When Duane went to Ca. after he messed up with the Navy and Army he got into trouble. These family friends came to the rescue and provide aid to Duane when he was sent to McNeil - as I have said he was eligible for parole after ONE day. The FBI neglected to let anyone know this. I feel sure that the records on Duane will show intervention before and after his sentencing that will reflect a name well known in the Fire Industry. I am going to hire an attorney to help me obtain Duane's 500 pages that Carr said were available - wonder how much of that is information that the FBI obtain and how much of it is information I provided over from 1996 to 2006 when Carr made that statement. Do any of you really believe the FBI has 500 pages on Duane Weber that is a result of their own investigation and not provided by me, nor statements or emails or letter written by me. Georger quoted me as saying: "They retrived DNA from me in March of 2003, but I have not heard anything and they never returned the item. I was not foolish enough to give them all that I had. " (Nov 14 2006) This is how I feel about that: If I had given them his watch - I would never have seen it again (very very fine watch). I also did not give them his work watch. I kept a few things in reserve. I don't know a widow in this world that would turn over every memory she had of her husband. If they had wanted to take a dna samples from the watches - they should have brought DNA testing equipment with them. There are 2 watches. One is very valuable. I also do not understand why you guys are wasting VALUABLE space making quotes from the other thread. Anyone that is interested is capable of going back to read it. It seem obvious to me this may well be your intention - use up space. It is not me that turns the attentions to Duane - what I am trying to do is show things the FBI missed - but, some of you don't want that information made available to the public. I wonder why? Over the next few yrs I get calls (lots of them) from someone looking for aquick buck, some offering real information and learn things from the FBI . Duane's Con yrs. (I am speaking of San Quentin, Folsom, Canon City, Columbia and Jefferson - I do believe those prison and the company he kept involved him in many things through the yrs. I explored how every possiblity could have been involved in the skyjacking. If Duane wanted to confess to something - he could have claimed to have been CIA or involved in the Bay of Pigs or that he was involved in assassinating someone......no doubt with his criminal background he was involved in many things. As for my interest in the Claudian Webber - think about that. His fathers name was Claudian and the middle name of the false Id's. John C. Collins, John Chalk Collins and his brothers middle name was Claudian. I did the realistic thing and investigated and explored. How else do you solve a crime? He was NOT a licensed jumper - and most of the guys from those early yrs were NEVER licensed jumpers in the CA group in the 30's and into the early 40's. Is Cossey LEFT handed? Duane was left handed and I wonder if those kind of modification might be common if the jumper was left handed. Just a question I asked a long time ago when these other posts where made, but it was never answered or if so, I don't remember it. Left handed or right handed - it makes sense to a non-jumper. Regarding Cossey: Good choice not to infringe upon him - he is a rather private man I gathered from the 2 or 3 brief times I did speak with him. I have heard and read different versions of Cossey's story. In fact I clearly DO NOT remember what he told me as I was contacting him about the appearance of the chutes themselves. He sent me pictures of the chute or other chutes of the same type. At that time life was very hectic and I never got them scanned and posted. One day I will dig them out and scan them - I had asked him not to ID the chute - because I wanted to pick it out myself from the hardware on it...he made some notes on the pics...which looked like pages out of a catalogue. There have been variations of Cossey's story which like my own changed over the yrs - I credit or DIScredit the writers, journalists or interviewers in that respect. The writers do not intentionally change the story - it is how they heard it or understood it or sometimes it simply sounded better (literary licensing). Put a dozen people in an interview with the same person without tapes, recorders or videos and you will have 9 different versions of the same story. The basics have always been the same -but I never read where he said it was a hard pull. No rigger intentionally will pack a chute for a hard pull if he intended to use it himself. I would like for Cossey to post his OWN story about the chutes without a reporter or writer or spokesperson as the middle man. I wonder if anyone is gutsy enough to ask him to do so. He is not getting any younger and it would be nice to have Cossey's own persaonal version penned by him regarding this matter. I simply let you know that firefighting and ranger training had been discussed before. If you would LIKE to come to my home and you have a few wks to spare please do so - you will find those mentions in communications to Himmelsback and the FBI along with communications with friends. A friend helped because I did not have a computer and only office access. This was all prior to 1998. Like any other discussion a mention of something is cause to revisit an old and shelved piece of information. Jo, Do you have info that smoke jumpers made free fall ripcord pull jumps in the 1940s or at any time? That is something I did not know. I though all their jumps were S/L. 377 "After each jump the Derry brothers discussed tehnique and equipment. The jumping outfit consisted of an athletic supporter, ankle braces, combined back and abdominal braces, two-piece padded felt suit, gootball helmet with wire mesh face mask, stout gloves and loggers' boots." Page 126. That was 1940 and according to the author they didn't employe the static line until 1941. On page 132 they discuss the static line. They state that "when the 1941 jumping season passed without any serious or incapacitating injuries, Forest officers decided that "smokejumping is a practical possibility."" So far not much has been reliable in this darn book - but, surely the author didn't take complete liberty. This is Tall Timbers Pilots published in 1953. Sluggo gave me this book when he was here - I read it then and then "shelved" it. Maybe it should have stayed shelved...but I pulled it out and read it again. I am still trying to figure out how and why Duane's family moved to Ca. I know they had friends in CA, and these friends are the ones who helped Duane several yrs later when he got in trouble in CA and sent to McNeil. At the time of that photo Duane would have been about 10 or 12 yrs old or just a little older. Who did they go to CA to visit? Sorry I didn't mean to say anything about Weber - but it is one of those things for which I have no answer. Only little things Duane said, and why this photo was SO important to him. His fascination with planes - it had an origin and a source...prior to his going into the service in 1941. Who were the frends that intervened on his behalf when he was sentenced to McNeil. There is a connection here, but how does one find something like this after all of these yrs - when all the individuals are deceased. Old pictures. Might want to chat with Tiny Broadwick....She was using a static line back in 1914. Tiny Broadwick History ltdiver So much for my 2 sources which are supposedly reliable. I have contacted the site Georger suggested and am waiting for a reply...as to the origin of static lines. My gut told me there had to have been static lines used prior to 1941. This is the statement made "The most important development of the season (1941) was the introduction by Frank and Chet Derry of the static line release. This device, which eliminated the manually controlled ripcord, reduced the intensity of nervous reactions that ususally preceded first firejumps." There was also 2 other statements in the same source that would lead a novice to make the same interpretation. The static line is talked about but was developed AFTER these guys where trained. I will find it later and state it if I have not already done so. Restating this below: If I am reading this right the techniques and ideas used by these men where incorporated by Major William Cory Lee in organizing the first paratroop training at Fort Benning in 1940. By 1941 all smokejumping operations were confinded to Region One and Missoula. They do not define what Region One was. In 1941 was when the static line release was developed. The war cut into the amount of recruits and equipment available in 1942. P.S. From what I am reading this was developed in 1941 but not fully functional until later...in certain circumstances the static line is not feasible...weather conditions and terrain. The guys were jumping with a back pack - ( Eagle Thrirty-foot chute )and the emergency chest pack a twenty-seven foot canopy. The outfit consisted of an athletic supporter, anke braces, combined back and abdominal braces, two-piece padded felt suit, football helmet with wire meshe, stout gloves and logger boots. Now I find that combined back and abdominal brace interesting - remember the item DUANE did not want me to get rid of even though he never wore it... that is what it was called. We have also questioned not being about to "pull" with the gloves - the guys used stout gloves whatever that means. The chest pack protected the jumpers from injuries when they slammed into limbs and trees trunks. Interesting statement I think. By spring of 1943 the manpower shortage was so ACUTE and the need for addtional squads so imperative that sixty 4-e draftees (concisentious objectors) from CPS camps were selected as jumpers. As the burden increase dht the USCosast Guard, flight suregeon from the US Air Force and a group from the Canadian Air Observer School - a larger traing load was undertaken. All of this required obstacle courses and jump towers - men had to be hire to do this. In 1944 the jumpers were taken into the Forest Service setup as a regular organization - ranger stations reduce the number of back-country smokechaser. 1946 was the yr. 84 percent of the were then ex-service men and the CPS workers were gone. Very few of the seasoned crews (1940 -1945) would remain active. The forgotten man of smoke jumping is the Forest Service Spotter. The spotter has to check and must pick sutiable landing spots and check wind drifts, picking the right moment to send the boys out and coordinate every move with the pilot. On cargo jumps he works close to an open door - lining up the drop stuff and has to take full-power dive, fast climbs, bouncing around and cannot do a thing in tight spots but ride it out. I have a hunch about something right now. We have concentrated on pilots, jumpers, loadmasters and others. But, in the late 30's and the early 40's there was what was called a "spotter". The first licensed helicopter pilot was NOT until 1945. There is a a whole group of individuals from 1937 to 1946 who were NEVER investigated by the FBI. Th Flying Johnsons made the first cargo drop by chute (food supplies to the fireline). These guys dropped a seventy pound cargo and chute with thirty dozen eggs at Powell Ranger Station located at the bottom of a narrow, ditchlike canyon as crooked as a crippled snake's track and covered with dense white pine of the seven-log variety. - a "dropper" pushed the load out. The chute got caught up in the tail assembly and dragged the case of eggs. After quiet a bit of problems he managed to land with the egg crate dragging. Only 4 dz eggs where broke. He later made a replacement delivery successfully to the intended destination. It worked. I believe this was prior to 1935. subsequent posts more than adequatley answered jo's questions about why the fingerprints didn't match duane's, etc. I don't remember my reply and do not go back to look. As for Weber he was known to carry emory cloth in his pockets. Because Duane did commited other crimes after 1971 and the prints never came back to him...still leads me to believe there is a problem with the prints. He was a 6 time felon who was arrested 2 times afterwards - and his prints didn't come back reading Ex-Con. Both incidents involved a gun in his possession. Himmelsbach told me that the FBI did NOT know if any of the prints belonged to Cooper. The prints on the aftstairs could have been there since the plane was built. As far as Ckret revealing anything more to me about Duane's file...It did not happen. He also promised me copies of his files - remember! I never got those. I had a long discussion with Duane's friend and none of the things Jerry ranted about other than Duane mentioning McCoy ever took place. He did not remember more than one or two phone calls and was under the impression he was talking to the FBI. He said it had been too many yrs to remember anything else. I do not mean to tease about the interview with the night clerk - just somethings have to stay confidential until the time is right and definitely NOT in a thread. There are 2 crucial other interviews that need to take place - and they are being handled. As for Ckret - the article on the FBI site was not a very professional thing to do about the Dan Cooper Comics. And that was after he left the forum. Sorry - but review the places he went in his "theory" and then call me "crazy" or claim that I change my story. He is FBI and I am just a simple woman trying tell what I know. If he had done the things he promised to do in the forum - perhaps I might have some answers, but he chose NOT to do as he said he would. With those file I may have found things they didn't see or were unaware of, but it was the choice of the FBI NOT to send me Duane Weber's files. The avatar you claimed I spoofed - well I did - guess what I had to make Duane's ear smaller. Perhaps you need to take a picture of Duane and I don't mean the distorted picture used by the media. If you know anything about photography then you know that the closest thing to the cameral lense will appear larger than it actual is. Also remember that a close haircut and weight loss make ears seem larger. MOST important remember that you are working with an artist's rendition of a suspect...there were guideline for composites in 1971, but no computers. In the 60's girls where known to tape and glue their ears.. I don't know if Cooper did this, but maybe you need to look at the possiblilities if you REALLY think the ears are such an issue. There were 2 incidents prior to 1982 - when Duane did somethings I found out about after the fact. I was packing to leave him and he promised never to do something like that again. I did NOT know that he had a 16 plus yr criminal background or I would have been gone. I am sure there were other incidents - but I was not aware of them. I believe I have stated all of this before. I set the stage for nothing. Is not any of my life with Duane private? Yes, I have left somethings out, but because of individuals such as yourself who take it upon themselves to twist and turn everything I say - I have had to leave things out. Do you not think that I have NO pride left? I guess not - I never told my own daughter some of the things I found out about the man I was married to. Perhaps you need to clarify what you mean by SOCIALLY MALAJUSTED. A socially malajusted person is not a leader and producer and friend to all. I saw this man give when he didn't have it to give - because he wanted to please others. He was very astute as hiding what needed to be and saying what had to be said...pehaps that is how one survives in prison. He was a person always in charge of the circumstances.

One cannot be a sucessful insurance salesman and run an award winning team and be antisocial. Not one person that knew Duane Weber would say he was antisocial. He was just "secretive" and seemed to be a man with no past. I have never depicted Duane as antisocial. He was well like and love by those who knew him. An antisocial person would never have been able to lead a team and to obtain the highest award his company gave to any man. In 1987 in the Islands at an award banquet - Duane brought a confernece room to tears - a man who took NO credit for what he accomplished, but told them the team and his wife should be the ones up there accepting that award. He got a standing ovation - first time ever anyone ever took an award with that kind of speech. I never liked the statement that Doug made in that article, but journalist take literary liberties. Duane was very strong and healthy until 1986 (All he took was medication for high blood pressure). He was a strong swimmer (Atlantic Ocean) and then from 1988 until 1992 even on diaylsis in the Gulf. He loaded and unloaded heavy furniture until 1993 when the diaylsis made his bones brittle. In 1971 - he WAS not sickly - he had been diagnosed with Polycistic Kidney disease which is heretitary - and he did not go on dialysis until 1990. He did start having problems with his legs in 1987 which is what put him out on disability with the company, but did not put him down. In 1988 he stopped drinking and that made a big difference in his stamina - but the disease was on the move. 1971 until 1986 - you would not have known there was one thing wrong with him. I have talked extensively with co-workers and friends and family from the time period 1971 to 1976 and not one of them will tell you that his disease impaired his activities. He was very strong and very active. I have explained before that this disease was a progressive disease and moved in stages. From 1971 until 1986 - he was fine. What have the told me? The team knows more than I do. ALL I was told was that the DNA "EXCUSED" not excluded Duane. THAT is ALL I have been TOLD. Now from outside sources I read that the FBI has admitted the DNA is damaged is not conclusive enough to exclude or include ANYONE. Why don't you call Sherlock Holmes Investigations in NY and ask them yourself. Or call the FBI - I don't bother with them anymore - since all they have done is lie to me. Perhaps you should suggest they send me a letter as to the condition of the DNA and if they still stand by the ONLY thing they have told me. What ELSE has the FBI disqualified Duane Weber under - NOTHING? If they have something besides the damaged DNA - do I not have the right to know? Perhaps if everyone in this forum contacted the FBI and asked them to provide his widow with the detailed proof of how they KNOW Duane Weber is not Cooper, I might get the information you CLAIM I have been told. They have not even sent me the detailed records of Duane Weber - they should know how many times he was married and if I was even his legal wife. The should be able to make the SS records of John Collins aka Duane Weber available to his wife and let the SS know that the two where the same. Not quilty! I think the man does work for a living and is not retired like many of us. TO ALL: A book you guys need to read; Smoke Jumping on the Western FIre Line: Consicientious Objectors During World War 11. (2006) The CPS camps hired excons, cooks, riggers, land fighters, pilots, loadmasters and other unrelated workers for the camps. After 1943 because of some objections by others they sent the excons to other camps such as the one I have been researching. I have sent for the book and another book by the same author called A Great Day for a Fire Fight. I wish I was well enough to get on a plane and go to CA and then to the Bittercreek area in Mt. I have said for 12 yrs they are where the connection is. The things he showed me and told me over the yrs - a wooden tower. Duane told me he helped build it. There was a smilar tower on a site for this book - but not the same one he showed me. What-ever book the Camino pic showed up in also had a pic of a Wooden Tower - a straight forward shot. I have not been able to find the book the Camino pics where orginally in - just the CPS site...and the site doesn't mention a book...but has the same photos that were in that book. Also the book had a pic of that damn truck by itself and not with the guys standing infront of it. Can anyone help with this? None of the above says Duane was Cooper, but they can help me find closure and I desperately need that at this time. If I had had a computer in 1996 - most of these people where still alive. All I could do was put it in the hands of the FBI and they screwed up. If they can bold facely say that Duane was not Cooper then they must know something I have never been told and that they have never told me. If he wasn't Cooper then what is so secretive about Duane's past. If they can say he wasn't Cooper - what are they basing this on. I recently read "Christainsen Camp" was told the DNA was damaged and could not be use to make an identity? This was coming from the investigator who did the background on Christiansen (not the writer). Why did the FBI not let the public know that fact after they "excused' not excluded Weber? What exactly is the FBI doing now ? Do any of you get the feeling they are doing a balancing act on the fence gate? Things seem to be very clear right now - I am remembering things I didn't remember before. I have had 2 real bad days - I am surprised I remember anything much less something new. In another thread on this forum someone posted a picture of a young man helping a jumper secure his chute after landing. There were others I believe in the background. The picture if my memory serves me right was from the 60's. When I saw it - something about it - made me remember it. When the "When and Where" picture came jumping back at me I went looking for the posted picture in a thread I had seen. I think the young man with the glasses and the man in that other picture sure look alike . From what I remember the young man was to the right in the photo and was down trying to secure the chute - (perhaps it was windy). You could not make out who the jumper was and there seemed to be a couple of people in the background. Since I do not post in the threads I visit just to observe - (I have made rare posts if I thought it something I could relate to or compliment). I want to say it was in CA. Never dreamt I would have to find a posted photo from my memory that I viewed one time. The photo with the group in it - one of those individuals should cause the OLD timers to take notice. It is NOT Duane. I saw that face before in one of the sites. The place was CA and the younger man with the glasses was on the ground trying to secure the chute of a jumper who had landed. I have not been able to remember the site it was posted on and I ignored it because due to the age it could not be Duane. It is not Duane but I think it is the man in this photo (the younger one with glasses). I remember things I see, but not always where to find them. Quade must have some kind of search program with the photos that have been posted in sites I have looked at (I don't usually post) - I just go looking and I have not been able to find where I saw the picture of the man.
