  1. Or just watch your pc launch over your left shoulder...thats great though that it will work out good for you on the left! Actually when people started putting cameras on the side of the helmet it was natural to put it on the left so you could still get to the majority of the buttons and the flip out screen while it was mounted...had nothing to do with the pc being on the right side. And try not to have your head turned when you get opening shock with a camera on...when you start shooting with a full set up you will see (or feel) how that can be a bad idea. Best option really is to keep your eyes on the horizon with your head level...you should experience fewest painful neck weeks like that. Hope this helps... Miami
  2. You would think with as long as my arms are I wouldn't have a problem getting it into clean air...I must be getting lazy in my old age... Miami
  3. So did a video jump today and at pull time I had a bit of a pilot chute hesitation... Not that big a deal until it flopped onto my head and wrapped around my ringsight! I was fortunate enough to clear it by 3k but I was just a couple of seconds from having to dump my reserve into a horse shoe...something I have always feared. So this is just a reminder to all you vidiots, especially if you have big ol' wings, get that pilot chute into clean air and keep it maintained/replaced as necessary to make sure it can do its job when you put it there. Miami
  4. Set it to auto focus, point it at something that is 6-10 feet away and set it back on manual focus...it'll display the little hand with a 0.1 next to it most likely...that'll keep you in focus for pretty much everything. Sometimes with the .3's we use it'll get so far out of focus it can't find anything with that trick and you have to help it out with the manual focus ring...just play with it, you find what works for you. Hope this helps... Miami
  5. Just leave it on automatic...this camera is one that does just fine on its own. Hope this helps... Miami
  6. That's not a floating iris problem, lots of cameras do it...happens more often on harder openings though. I am using 6 pc-1000's and they do that no more than my trv-17 or pc-110. I have had zero floating iris problems with the pc-1000's. Hope this helps... Miami
  7. Or just have the entire load get naked... Miami
  8. Oh, and a big no on that...JuneBug made it clear if we were not able to get anything off of the tape we would not be granted a re-jump! Miami
  9. It's difficult to know -exactly- what happened and what caused the helmet to depart the camera flyer but the sequence of events was; a normal jump, deployment with line twists and when the line twist were cleared the helmet departs. Man, I wish I knew all you guys were dz.commers when I was in there... I was the one who was filming the other Air Force team...it was one of our riggers (Chad) who was filming the cadet team and lost the helmet. We've watched the tape numerous time and cannot conclusively decide what it was that took the helmet off. It could have been a riser hitting the lever and making it loose enough to come off, it could have been a riser hitting the button to release the ratchet allowing the bone to release (we have older helmets that do not have the protective cover over that button), it could have just been a failure on the other end of the bone where the cutaway hinge resides...who knows... I was able to do a little surgery on the tape and transfer the spools to a new body so they could get judged, but the camera, newton sight, and cameye were definitely toast! Thanks to everyone who offered to loan us a camera (JP) and a huge thanks to the Knights who had an extra of the same model we were using and let us use that. Also a huge thanks to Chris at Bonehead...who's doorstep we were on at 8am of the 2nd day of 4-way with a busted up FTP. He repaired our poor helmet in an hour or so and had us back up and running for the 10am start. Lots of fun this year, hopefully next year won't be quite so exciting! Miami
  10. My 27 does not open as nice as my 21's did, but it doesn't open anything like what you are describing...it sounds like packing technique. When it was new my 27 did open once with the center cell tucked in, but that was the only time that happened...otherwise the openings have been great on it. When I actually pack my own I always make sure the nose is flaked out even, then stuff it just a little (it ends up coming back out when I bring the tail around anyway), then roll the tail 3 or 4 times, depending on how it feels. Hope this helps... Edit to add: I also X the slider so the front of it is even with the nose... Miami
  11. That is great to hear...when Igo built that packing area he said there was enough weight from the nails alone to keep it from blowing away in a hurricane...guess he was right!
  12. Really depends on what system you are jumping, but I have found that the chest strap on my student can get a little on the higher side for a couple of reasons. One is that the legs straps are not tight enough, like ntrprnr said. Another reason is that the diagonals across the back are tightened more than the main lift webs, so that when you are suspended in the tandem harness more of the front of the harness is being pulled up (this is specific to the Sigma system, others could vary but as far as I know not by much) than the rear, putting the chest strap closer to the neck. Talk to your tandem instructor, I bet if you let them know what is happening when you are under canopy they can change the adjustments before you go up to make you more comfortable. As far as solo jumps if the rig is too big you can run into this problem as well, but with a properly fit rig it shouldn't be an issue. Hope this helps... Miami
  13. I just ordered one from B&H as well (thanks for the tip Phree), had to talk to someone in the lighting dept...he had a little trouble finding it in their inventory but finally did find it and got it ordered. Hope this helps... Miami
  14. I don't have experience with this camera in particular but other 3 chip panasonic I've played with had excellent video quality. They don't have a lanc port though so if you plan on using a cameye you might be out of luck. If you have no hangups not using a cameye I don't see why it wouldn't work fine. Hope this helps... Miami
  15. I've done a handful of jumps similar to this...but it was with a XX and the second jumper wore a harness under their own rig. The second jumpers extra harness was connected to the first jumper via the risers to the legstraps on the harness of the XX, the two of us would launch a cat and the first jumper would pull right out the door. Would fly around for a while, then cut away from under the first jumper and open our own main. We did it till we lost stability once and pulled after a 7-8 second delay...blew up the canopy. I was fortunate enough to be filming that one instead of riding on it...ouch! Miami
  16. Have you had a chance to see how your reserve lines are stowed on your infinty? Miami
  17. The FF2 is not but the FF1 is. Hope this helps... Miami
  18. Straps cut off, panels covering popular ports trimed to allow easier access or removed completely, gaffers tape residue here and there... Miami
  19. I've purchased three of those from that seller and the two that I have used have been fine (3rd is still in the box, haven't needed it yet). Hope this helps... Miami
  20. Here. Hope this helps... Miami
  21. I meant why is the PC1000 not good for jumping...I've only heard good reviews of it for flying video. Miami
  22. It's not? Why do you say that? (Haven't used the PC1000 for jumping yet but there are a few on the way...) Miami
  23. For the performance. Making a lineset that lasts 1500 jumps would be very similer to going back to some nice fat dacron lines. I'm sure precision would be happy to send you a big, fat, stong dacron lineset like that if you asked...for the sake of not being wasteful... Miami
  24. I seem to remember along the way hearing from precision that I should expect 6-800 jumps from my lineset, depending on how it was cared for. That was for both the 21 and 27. Is it a surprise you are seeing line failures at 700-1000 jumps per lineset? Hey, they could use 1575lb dacron lines on the whole canopy and we'd probably never need a reline again, right? There's a reason the lines are so small. Hope this helps... Miami
