What Sony PC camera would you buy RIGHT NOW?
Miami replied to clint's topic in Photography and Video
PC330. Large lens allows more light and fits wide angle lenses I already own, uses same batteries I already own, digital still is good enough I can get rid of the digital still camera I use around the house, and good video quality. Hope this helps... Miami -
Here is the camera suit before Shelly chopped it in half... Miami

Shelly did them this week, just picked them up today. Miami

Yea...if it's not food he's not interested. Miami

Shelly and Sherry made me the best looking and fitting jumpsuit I have ever had!!! I stupidly ordered a one piece freefly camera suit then had Shelly chop it in half and ordered a freefly top...picture is the freefly combo. Damn, FireFly kicks ass! Miami

Tube stow. Specifically the long piece as seen on a pair of tube stow goggles. Slides over the end quite snugly and fits great under pretty much any helmet. Just be careful about take it on and off cause it can rip the rubber grips on the gatorz. I actually jump mine all the time without a strap of any type under my frap hat and camera helmet and have had no problems with them coming off. Hope this helps... Miami

Geez, you would think someone who takes a strange and obviously lost dog in to their home to ensure it a warm, loving, and fed environment instead of letting it wander about to get hit by a car would get a little more slack. He is trying to find the owners, hell, he is outside playing with her in the lawn all the time...if she were itching to go home she would have done it by now. I can certainly say he is doing more for this pup than I would have, but I'm not a dog person. And hey...name her Deogee. Miami

Normally the latex gloves under the thin leather gloves is the way to go. Can't have holes in the leather though or the latex doesn't do much to help. I've had good luck with scuba gloves for winter jumping here in Colorado. Leather palm with a neoprene back, has kept the fingers from getting too painful when it's cold out. Hope this helps... Miami

What he said... I will always wear an open faced helmet (currently a frap) for AFF dives. I have been told countless times by countless students how much more relaxed they feel when they see my goofy grin during their dives. As far as protection, I treat every AFF student like I treat tandem students, they are trying to kill me and I need to do everything I can to ensure them a safe and fun time while they are. Hope this helps... Miami

I've been very, very happy with my FTN. I have a FTN as my personal camera set up and a FTP at work. The FTN is an excellent camera helmet for those who know they only want a single camera on top and a front mounted still camera. The FTN takes about a half a pound off of the weight compared to a FTP with identical equipment attached. The FTN is also 50 buck cheaper. Hope this helps... Miami

I've felt the same way with both the 21 and 27 loaded at 2.9:1 (closer to 3:1 when jumping camera). Just had some pretty bad twists on the 27 this past weekend (watched the bag spin as it left the container), thought for sure I would have to chop as it came out of the bag, but it flew great and I had no problem kicking out. I've also had the left brake fire off twice during opening on the 27...both times it opened without twists and could be correct easily with risers until the other brake was released. Hope this helps... Miami

I have been nothing but happy with my 21's. I fly camera fairly frequently and the openings are the best I have had on any canopy (the only other thing that has come close is the spectre). Both the 21 and 27 have flown great in line twists for me. I have only had line twists once with the 21 and 2 or 3 times with the 27, none of them needing a cutaway. Both of my containers were built for Xaos 21's, but I eventually sold one of the 21's and bought a 27. There is a definite difference in the pack volume...the 27 fits but it is very snug. If you have any other specific questions feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer them! Hope this helps... Miami

Damn...so I'll need to downsize again when I leave Colorado? Jose, Drew's chart is a pretty good estimate. Best advise really when going to a high elevation dz is to treat your canopy like have never jumped it before. Take it easy and slow and get to know your canopy at the new elevation before you try any maneuvers. Hope this helps... Miami

Risers in, should I cut-away before reserve pull
Miami replied to pierre3636's topic in Safety and Training
That's not always the case. Agreed. Personally if I found myself in this nasty situation I would rather have my main already chopped. The way I train my students reflects this as well. Miami -
Risers in, should I cut-away before reserve pull
Miami replied to pierre3636's topic in Safety and Training
No offense taken...this is just my opinion, I know others will have varied opinions. It actually is an issue...if the main is already cutaway at this point it falls away, still in the bag, and is not an issue, but if it is not cutaway you run the risk of a main/reserve entanglement. Me either...I agree with you that this is not the best option, but its a shitty situation to be in regardless! Miami -
Risers in, should I cut-away before reserve pull
Miami replied to pierre3636's topic in Safety and Training
I teach my students to cutaway unless they have a hard pull or cannot find their handle. The chances of a main/reserve entanglement are there if you have something behind you when you fire your reserve, but you really do not know what is going on behind you, and having a main come out while your reserve is deploying will most likely be far worse if it is not already cutaway. Like most have said in previous posts...the 3 rings generally will not release when there is no load on them...and with todays riser covers they will hold cutaway main risers in place just fine. That's just my opinion...let me try to answer your questions so you can form your own opinion... If your main bag, main lines, and main canopy were in jeopardy of entangling your reserve there is plenty above your head to cutaway. In the case of a horseshoe you want to cutaway even though the entangled gear will not fully clear you to try to give it as much possibility to get itself clear of you while you pull your reserve. If you have a situation where the container can open after you pull you reserve (malfunctioning pilot chute, misrouted bridle, grommets locked together, etc) I feel it is much better to have a main that will either fall away from you should it deploy after reserve inflation or be free to hopefully clear itself should it deploy simultaneously with your reserve...letting the freebag do it's job should the main entangle it. Not a fun position to be in but you gotta deal with what you have. If your main is still attached you run the risk of having a two out situation only if it does not collapse your reserve to begin with. No fun either but without cutting your main away you will always have another emergency to deal with should the main container open...and imagine what happens when it decides to come open at 200ft and you have a main twisting its way down the stows till it's out of the bag and begins to fly in those twists....really not a fun place to be! Anyway...hope this helps... Miami -
When I ask a group or individual what their pull altitude is I expect the altitude they are going to be throwing their pilot chute at. I could care less when they wave off, or if they wave off at all, as long as they pull at their determined pull altitude. (although I do recommend everyone does a waveoff prior to pulling) If you are unsure what your fellow jumpers are indicating the best way to clarify it is to ask them. It can be very valuable, potentially life saving, to know the difference. Hope this helps... Miami

Kick ass picture Josh! It's always nice to see someone you know doing well at something. Miami

I've done quite a few tandem progression jumps...so if I can help with any advice I will. Are you looking at doing a progression where the student will do a certain number of tandem jumps followed by single jumpmaster AFF type jumps? Miami

Which mechanical altimeter do you like better?
Miami replied to cvfd1399's topic in Gear and Rigging
Heck...I'm still jumping an FT-40 (the version before the FT-50) as my personal altimeter...it has held up great over the thousands of jumps I have made with it. At work I have an Alti3 with the glow face...when my FT-40 finally kicks the bucket I will probably buy an Alti3 with the glow face...but it depends on what is available at the time. Hope this helps... Miami -
Have you tried flipping the bracket for your still camera upside down? Hope this helps... Miami

Funny that you mention this... Last weekend my packer packed me a nice line over...he wouldn't accept payment for the packjob, even though I would have paid. It was my first mal on a sport rig requiring a cutaway out of 3500 jumps, so I think I am ahead of the game anyway. Shit happens, sometimes you have to use your reserve, it's all part of the game of skydiving. Miami
