  1. I've been considering a pud as well, especially since I had my pc wrap around my ringsight recently, for the following reasons... 1) I like that the container will definitely be opened with a good pull and 2) when the pc leaves your hand it is already inflated, instead of having to flip around and inflate cause you were holding it's apex. Reason I have not gotten a pud are 1) I use packers, puds are not as common so more likely to be screwed up by packers, 2) I don't think I would feel comfortable jumping a pud with a wingsuit, and 3) I really don't like the idea of having to dump my reserve at terminal cause the pud got bumped out of it's pocket. What reasons are you considering a pud for? Miami
  2. The fit of pretty much every FF2 I have seen has been pretty average, meaning not too wide and not too narrow. I know with mine to slip it on I must pull the sides apart and then when its on it sort of hugs my cheeks...it feels like it would not come off in freefall even if I left the chin cup off. PM me if you get a chance, if you're around eloy end of this month/beginning of Nov I may be able to get a helmet to you in your size to try on. Hope this helps... Miami
  3. A slot should work fine...if it's tight enough to keep the camera from rotating left/right on the thumbscrew it should be tight enough to keep them from going forward or backward. If you are using a stroboframe 300-qrc make sure you are using all 3 mounting screws and it will definitely be fine. If you need a stroboframe this guy is a good source. The picture is wrong...it is a regular 300-qrc, I've bought 2 from him, and from what I've seen of his previous auctions he has sold dozens. Hope this helps... Miami
  4. Ahh, I see...thats a pretty bulky setup for a still remote though... Miami
  5. Hmm, guess they do...I stand corrected! Now what about a shutter release button that will plug into that serial port? I'm no computer whiz but I assume the 9-pin port has 9 little wires all bundled up together...most remotes I've taken apart have 3 wires. Miami
  6. Did you take the lens cap off? Seriously though, I'm not familier with canon video cameras...sony's are the norm for skydiving, they have proven themselves over and over. Miami
  7. I don't think any of the Coolpix line have a wired remote...save up a little and worst case buy a used 300d. I really hope you mean mini-dv instead of dvd camcorder, if not I hope you saved the receipt (if you plan on using it for jumping anyway). I'm thinking that is probably the case as 2K does not make their FF2 for any of the dvd line of cameras. Miami
  8. FF2. PM me if you have any questions about it. Hope this helps... Miami
  9. I'm surprised how many people said yes. Miami
  10. I wipe mine down with a clean cloth every reserve repack, the red impregnated cables on racers require no maintenance. Miami
  11. Here is a US source for neoprene. They sell it by the foot (12" X 51") for a pretty reasonable price. I, however, have no desire to try and reinvent the wheel if I don't need to...I've already pm'd Chrissay to see if she is still making them. Miami
  12. I think thats the biggest setback...it's hard to force all the videographers to drop that much money for stills but if there is a mix it has the potential to cause a lot of tension between the vidiots. Miami
  13. I agree with you completely...digital gives you so much more flexibility for creativity. The stand alone cd burners/card readers are definitely worth it...just make sure you get one that writes quickly...I've seen some that take over 5 minutes to write the pictures and some that take 1 minute to write the same number/size pictures. Miami
  14. The stand alone cd burners/card readers had a line out that you could hook up to a monitor to see the pictures after they had been burnt to the cd. That would let you scan through to see what your pictures looked like as well as checking to make sure they were copied to the cd without problems. We did not preview the pictures with any of the customers...aside from taking up a lot of time I think the line of thought was that the cd was just like a roll of film, they could take it to get it developed or take a look and save them on their own computer. I've never printed my own pictures, so I'm not too sure what the cost would be, but I see no reason why you couldn't do this. Miami
  15. The Rebel XT (350D) should be an excellent camera for skydiving. I actually went with a 20D only because I found it for a great price (posted in a previous thread where that was). I'm using the canon 17-85 USM lens which puts me at about 27mm with the conversion factor and that matches up great with my video. Eventually I'll get the 10-22mm USM for me versatility, and it is a little lighter. Anytime I have shot digital stills the customer got a cd-r, which was hopefully treated just like a roll of film, and they got the cd about 10-15 minutes after their jump. The dz took care of providing the materials but cd-r's are a lot less expensive than film ($.75/roll of film, $.25/cd&case). You do need at the least a stand alone cd burner/card reader, which can run anywhere from $30-$200, but the cost of that is made up over time from the price on the cd-r's. I have not personally seen anyplace doing this but I'm sure there are... Hope this helps... Miami
  16. The least expensive I have been able to find a new Rebel XT is from this guy...right now he has 3 left that end in 30 mins but every few days he lists a bunch of new ones. I bought a 20D from him for about $400 less than I could find anyplace else. Hope this helps... Miami
  17. You might try these guys. They do "camdoms" for pc, trv, and still cameras. I have not dealt with them yet so I'm not sure if they still make them or if they make a good product but from their website it looks pretty good. Hope this helps... Miami
  18. Have not heard of them or seen one...but at first glance I don't like the camera mounted on the right side of the helmet, makes it a little hard to view your lcd screen without taking the camera off the helmet. Any idea of the prices they run? The FF2 is definitely a proven successful helmet (if you have done a search on here you will have found that) and are a pretty inexpensive way to go. Hope this helps... Miami
  19. I have not measured my vertical decent rate but I would imagine it's pretty quick at a 3:1 w/l. I jump a cypres1 and in optimal conditions (no traffic/spot/weather issues) I start my hook at 1200' (usually 450-540 degrees total)...have been jumping like that for about 4 years now. Miami

    Point Break

I'm pretty sure Point Break is what got me interested in jumping when I was 14...at least thats all I can conclude 'cause 14 was when I first called my local dz to try and schedule a tandem and point break came out right about the same time. Can't remember any other specific reason I decided to start jumping... So anyone who I have pissed off since I've started jumping...blame Point Break! Miami
  21. Why not...do I try to be more involved than the average instructor? I try to help positively influence any of my peers, regardless of how many jumps they have. If he doesn't he should. While that is generally an acceptable w/l for his experience I am hesitant to tell anyone that they are good to go on a particular canopy unless I have seen them fly it. Just how I do things...doesn't mean it's the right way. Miami
  22. This is really something you should discuss with your instructors, as they know you best. Take any advise you get here with a grain of salt...most likely the people giving it do not know you or how you fly, and you do not know how qualified they might be to give the advice. As to the canopies, why rush the downsize? In general going to a 150 for a while first would be the safer way to go, but again...you could be some sort of canopy prodigy who might handle more of a downsize just fine, but that is something your instructors would be better at guiding you on. Hope this helps... Miami
  23. We need more assholes. In my humble opinion 10 years ago s&ta's were much more effective at policing jumpers and controlling what canopies they were jumping. It seems this control has been weakened by a few different things...either dzo's not backing their s&ta's, jumpers lying or forging logbooks at a different dz, or just lazy s&ta's. For the most part younger jumpers are in a huge rush to "be cool"...even when educated properly some still get in over their heads thinking they won't be the ones to get hurt...but end up doing just that. If we have more assholes (and I use the term lovingly) that give a shit and are not afraid to tell a fellow jumper they are jumping beyond their means, or at least bring it to the attention of someone responsible, then I feel the number of canopy related fatalities and injuries will drop. Miami
  24. Always check here for online stores selling things like this. This particular place has a rating of 0.18...pretty bad, so most likely too good to be true. This guy has very good prices and is the real deal (just got a 20D w/lens from him for a great price!). That is the only camera he has listed right now, but he lists a bunch at once (Rebel XT's and 20D's) from time to time. Hope this helps... Miami
  25. I liked mine so much I started a dealership with them, so I know of quite a few who are using FF2's and are in complete agreement with you! Miami
