  1. I have no idea, but it does climb quick! Don't know about the gliding part, but either one I would rather be outside the thing if that happened. Haha, I haven't seen skydance's...I've been jumping the one on the east coast in suffolk. Miami
  2. Well so far I've been pretty pleased with the reviews coming out about the MacBook, much of the negative feedback left about them doesn't really apply to me as it's something I've never used before (i.e. the lack of a firewire 800, changing the PCI card type, etc.). One thing I am bummed about is what I've heard about photoshop CS2 running on the Intel based Mac (apparently it's not that great ), and that they won't be making an update specific for the Mac until they update photoshop to CS3. Anyone heard anything different or have different information? Also has anyone heard anything about Apple Photo Pro? Supposed to be a new app that may be similar to photoshop, but I couldn't get much from google on it. Miami
  3. I never said I agreed with those practices...they are just the policies set by the air force academy for jump operations with their twin otters. So are you saying that a full otter...i.e. a -27, 23 jumpers, couple loads of fuel...on a hot summer day would have no problems maintaining alt? Hell, I'm no pilot, so I just go off of the pilots I've worked with, but the impression I've gotten is that in that situation, one or no engines, the bird is coming down! Miami
  4. How fast does a -27 twin otter climb with 23 jumpers, a fresh load of fuel, and DA at 10k or so? Not so great either? And you have a pilot getting to deal with a twin running on one engine, which is exciting on it's own! Call it what you want, but it was and is done for safety reasons. They must be able to maintain a 50 ft/min climb rate during an engine out scenario, so temp and fuel load regulated how many jumpers we could put on board and still maintain that 50 ft/min climb rate should an engine shred. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have a twin otter for a jumpship, but the pac is really not all that bad! Miami
  5. Haha, I'd love to, but unfortunately I'm no longer at the academy...spent my 3 years there and it was time to move on. Miami
  6. Have you seen what the climb rate of a -27 super otter is with 23 jumpers and 1 engine on a hot summer day? It really isn't that much better (where are those really smart pilot types to give the precise data?). This was the reason we often had to fly our otter with 4 jumpers as a "full load" at the air force academy...had to be able to actually maintain a climb rate if an engine went down. Not mention what happens when one engine is lost on a twin a/c...makes things really interesting. With a single engine a/c it may be a glider, but gliders are pretty easy to land. Miami
  7. They're not that bad...as a reference I am 6'4" and have no trouble doing tandems out of the pac. Sure I would prefer the otter but the pac is nothing like a 182. Hope this helps... Miami
  8. Heh, figures. CS2 should still run ok on the macbook though? I think the way it was explained to me was that it may take a little longer (couple of seconds) for Rosetta to load it, but then it will run as fast or faster than the G4...is that correct or did I understand them wrong? Miami
  9. My G4 went out today back to apple...sure hope they don't delay shipment of my MacBook! I'll be primarily using my mac for running photoshop cs2 while I'm taking my classes for my photography major...I don't own the software yet so I'm curious if they are going to produce a universal version or if I'll have to rely on the rosetta to run it...anyone have any intel on that? Miami
  10. A long long time ago I lost a sidemounted pd-1 due to a riser strike during a horribly nasty opening. It was secured with the thumbscrew at the base and a pull up cord tied about midway up around the camera and plate (mainly to keep the screen from opening). Felt it bounce off my sternum but could not grab it (I think it was my 4th back to back so there were 4 un-dubbed videos on the tape counting the incident skydive). Got on the ground and the base of the camera was still bolted to the aluminum...all but the bottom half inch or so had ripped off and fallen into the Mississippi swamp, never to be seen again. I don't think of a quick release as added protection for securing my gear to my helmet, I see them as a way for me to pop my gear off when ever I want, either in the a/c, on the ground, where ever, and be able to pop it back on with very little delay. I prefer to take my cameras off in the a/c to video and take pics so this is a benefit for me. Miami
  11. I think he said he is going to charge $90, but I'm not sure if that was a concrete number or not. Miami
  12. X-shut makes a different type of quick release...not sure if it would be compatible with how we mount things on helmets. Call the number in the photo of the schumacher mount and ask for Terry. Miami
  13. There is another option...see this thread. I just got 3 of Schumachers mounts (pictures of it in the 12th post of linked thread) and I must say they are very nice. Hope this helps... Miami
  14. Took me 193 attempts to beat all 20 levels...code to go direct to level 20 is fujnwn. If you like games to burn spare time check out this site. Miami
  15. Oops, sorry I wasn't clear... Your backlight should be in the off position...the problem you're having sounds like it could be on already. The only time I ever found a use for the backlight was when there was a high layer of solid overcast clouds. With the backlight off the whatever I was filming from underneath was basically just a black silhouette...if you turn the backlight on for something like that it helps lighten up the subject but it will make the background wash out. Miami
  16. Check to see if your back light is on. If that doesn't work check to make sure the exposure is set to auto...if it is getting set to manual someplace a little darker (i.e. in the plane/hanger) any exterior shots will be very washed out. You should be able to check the exposure setting in the menu (set it to auto if it is not) and if the backlight is on you should see a little icon on your viewfinder (looks like a little sun in a box), but not sure if the hc30 has a button on the body or in the menu to turn it on/off. Hope this helps... Miami

    New Laptop

I just placed my order for the MacBook Pro...have to box my G4 back up and send it back in. Same price so even swap...the customer service at Apple rocks! edit - also see this thread. Miami
  18. And since I don't own any programs that fall under this it was not a big deal to me either. I just ordered my MacBook pro...the only thing extra I have to pay out of pocket is shipping to return my G4. They were actually not supposed to let me return my G4 because it is a custom machine (doubled the RAM from standard), but then waived it for me. I really hope I'm not making a mistake! Thanks again for the input from everyone out there! Miami
  19. Yes. Hope this helps... Miami
  20. Thank you all for all of the excellent information!
  21. Did I say it was? He asked for pics of FF2s or Rawas with external flash did he not? Edit - sorry if I'm sounding pissy...just having an irritable day... Miami
  22. Murphy's Law...immediately after you buy a 15 inch powerbook G4, apple will release something new....the MacBook Pro. I am however still in my 14 day window to return my G4. As I'm am not the most computer savvy person I am curious about them having Intel chips (albeit dual chips )...anyone who knows a thing or two about computers, specifically apples, have an opinion on this? They are priced identical (15in G4 vs 1.67 X 2 MacBook) so it would basically be an even swap. Thanks! Edit - Oops, sorry quade, ment to post this in the bonfire... Miami
