  1. I agree with you 100% FlyingRhenquest makes good points about the more prevalent problems as well.
  2. Yes! I also have no desire to harm anyone with a gun or anything else. I would only use force if I had no other alternative. I do not even like the idea of killing an animal. I have killed animals for food and once in self defense and it was not very sporting at all. A gun do's not make you tough, but it can save lifes as well as destroy them.
  3. I agree. Not only a large number of people, but a large number of different groups. The melting pot is probably the most diverse ever seen by mankind. The US welcomes almost everyone and then bends over backwards to make sure that their rights are protected. Even illegal immigrants are treated better here than anywhere else in the world. There are over 300 million citizens in the US and we share our border to the south with a truly dangerous country that spills violence upon the US like a tidal wave. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but thats just the way it is.
  4. That gun was used in a 100% self defensive way. She could have just shot him when he broke through the first door, but instead she retreated away with her children to hide behind two more doors. If the thug had not gone after them,he would not have been shot. This mother did not shoot to protect her property, but rather to protect her family when she was cornered with no other means of retreat. What do they do in australia, hide behind the kids or click their hills together and chant there is no place like home?
  5. How about changing the violent tendancies instead. Guns,knives,bombs,clubs,fist,ect....,can be used violently, but they can be and are used for other purposes as well. Bombs are just explosives that are used to kill and terrify, but when used in peace they help create roads and building materials. Guns can be used to kill food or protect us from big animals who might easily attack and kill us weak humans,or they can be used to victimize other people. It is the violent, aggressive nature that many people embrace and express that is the root of the problem, not only here in the US,but world wide. We have gang rapes, child abuse, physical assaults off the chart. These behaviors are all about violence and aggression upon others who can't fight back. Not only do many people think guns are cool but, they think all violence is cool. Being a bad ass is cooler than being compasionate for an alarming number of people, especially young people. As long as there are those who would use violence and aggression against those who are weaker we will have the need for tools of selfdefense.
  6. Where do you get of telling me what I think? Do you think because you are a professor or something, that no one else should have an opinion other than yours? This mother of two young children using a gun to protect her family from a bad guy with a crowbar who has a record of violent crime is a perfect example of firearms protecting people who would otherwise be easy prey for the predators. Like I've said, guns are equalizers. What would you have had her do when this guy broke through multiple doors to get to her and her children? Hell, she had already retreated away from the thug as far as she could to hide, and he cornered her. Would you have had her simply sit in the crawl space and play dead? Once again, I can't think of a better example of why law abiding citizens should have access to firearms than a mother hiding in a crawlspace protecting her family from a known violent offender in her own house. Seems to me she could have used a higher capacity weapon myself, since she unloaded six rounds, hit the guy with five and still he did not go down. What if he kept coming? What then? Maybe she could ask for a time out from the aggressor while she reloaded huh?
  7. Yes,very, very sad to think about it.
  8. Wait until Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson get wound up. Next thing you know, the black panthers will have a bounty on her head, and the feds will demand a grand jury enditement for attempted murder and a hate crime. They might even go after the kids as co defendants, since they did nothing to stop mom from attacking this poor under privileged young man.
  9. I've always liked wyoming and I'm quite fond of montana as well.
  10. Getting shot to death, clubbed to death, beaten to death,or stabbed to death is still death. People have been killed by people for as long as there have been people. If someone shoves a knife into your chest it could kill you and it makes no loud gunshot noise. They kill each other in prison with toothbrushes and paper shanks. Guns allow weaker people to defend themselves from much stronger things than themselves.Guns are equalizers. True, guns are used by thugs to victimize others, but if they do not have guns, they just use something else.
  11. Shot placement is still king,weather it's a 12 gauge slug or a rock from a sling.

    Freedom

Freedom is not free. In fact history has shown again and again that freedom is very costly, but still far better than tyranny, unless of course you are a would be tyrant.
  13. Harsh language might have just aroused him.
  14. Yep,MSN only wants to paint guns and gun owners as evil. They would have us believe guns are more lethal and violent than anything else, yet she had to shoot the bad guy five times and he was still able to run back to his car and drive it into a pole. I bet if she were able to hit him in the side of the head with a sledge hammer he would have died instantly, but it is easier to take a sledge hammer away from a smaller weaker person than to try and take a handgun from them when it's pointing at you,and it is much harder to swing hammers and clubs when you are trying to hide in close quarters with two children cowering next to you.
  15. A georgia mother of 9 year old twins shot a 32 year old man who had the family cornered in an upstairs crawl space. The invader has a police record including battery. Good thing she exercised her constitutional right to bear arms to protect her and her children from this guy who used a crowbar to break through three doors to get to them.
  16. Yep. Funny thing is that alot of people feel that having guns around the kids at school would expose the kids to guns, and exposing kids to violent guns could scar them and make them fear they might be in danger in school. The violent video games it seems,do not negatively expose kids to gun violence though. In this age,we are all in danger of being blown up,shot, poison gassed,ect... and the wealthy people know this and take what precautions they can to prevent the schools they use from these threats. Public schools should have been following the same plan as the rich private schools long ago.
  17. Hell yes! Our founding fathers knew that in order to maintain a free society and resist the threat of tyranny the people must have the tools to resist.
  18. Very good point, spending a little more on treatment for the mental illness is probably cheaper than untreated cases going batshit crazy with guns, bombs,or both.

    Oregon

I have a washington state CCW and I have not carried any weopons in stores, malls, theaters or public buildings. I carry only within the law and that means no concealed carry for me in oregon or any other state that will not recognise my washington permit. I have family who live in very remote areas of washington state and have seen cougar and very large bear. Last year I looked out my moms kitchen window to see about a 450+ pound bear looking back at me on the deck. A hand gun is not my first choice for defense against a bear but,it is better than hoping the bear may choke on my fist before he can kill me,if he attacks. I also like to carry in the car especially since I have twice had someone attempt to attack me while sitting in the car(always in the cities) and, both times had simply to let them see I also had a weapon at which point they put their weapon down and ceased the confrontation. The recent shootings have made me wonder if maybe I should carry everywhere I can by law. I do not ever want to shoot a person or even a bear as far as that go's. Hell I could have shot several bears and large cats over the years but would rather enjoy seeing them and knowing wildlife is still out there and would only shoot if attacked. In a mall setting,I would probably hide or retreat away from the shooter, unless they presented an easy target at close range, and I am a very good shot. I bet if the mall was full of armed ex combat troops the guy would never have got a round off before someone saw the rifle and ventilated his ass. People need to realize that in this day and age there is no gaurantee of safety anywhere and we all should be wary because the world is,and always has been a dangerous place and you never see it coming, otherwise you would get out of the way,and not get blown up,shot, stabbed,or beaten to death.
  20. 15,000 is not a very big percentage of the more than three hundred million people in the US. There are around 80,000 deaths per year from acute alcohol poisoning so we should outlaw booze. Wait a second,we tried that already and it did not work out very well. Killing a bunch of people because mommy did not hug you enough or killing one person because you have mental issues is f*#cked up. But more gun control will not stop angry, crazy,or misled people from killing individuals or large groups. Even in countries where private gun ownership is banned people get shot by someone other than law enforcement or,they have more frequent mass killings using BOMBS! Most gun deaths in our country are probably gang related, which is why these crazy mass shooters never go on a rampage in the rough part of town because they would not get very far before the homies lit them up. It seems the mass killers stick to the theaters, malls and, schools because they can kill people with little if any resistance. Should we ban hot dogs because some people eat to many and they might get to fat and then become angry and suicidal and go on a road rage rampage on the playground or sidewalk. I hope not,I like hot dogs as much as you do,but they can be dangerous if consumed without self control.
