Sincity skydiving out at the jean airport is the best place to get in a few fun dives. They actually have fun jumpers there. Give them a call a few days in advance (702-300-8508) and give them a heads up. If you go on the weekend, you will most likely see some fun jumpers willing to fly with you. Weekdays of course will be slower. The best skydvers in vegas are at Sincity and if you are fortunate, you might get to fly with some of the instructors, who are very talented at free fying and belly dives(they are all AFF instructors). Another fun jumper DZ would be about 1 hour north of vegas at mesquite. They are also good skydivers. Remember, the air is thin down there,so be conservative on your first few landings.

It's all fun and games until the pilot chute hits you in the eye,and it's not yours. You are never too low to hook it,but you may be too low to crawl away from it. Skydiving has a way of weeding out the stupid ones and the weak ones, wich one are you?

I do not feel like writting a novel so I will just enjoy reading about everyone else on this one.Quote

In this sport you can do everything right and still get hurt, maimed, or killed, even without the fault of another. This holds true for all extreme activities(base, big wave surfing, extreme snow sports, mountaineering, ect).

If your buddy really made a 90 degree turn of any kind at fifty feet(front riser, rear riser,or toggle) he must have forgotten what all 1st jump students should know without all the technical mumbo jumbo you are trying to complicate newbies with. Low turns without time for full recovery to flat and level flight will end badly. A properly trained student should know that they should not make anything but small corrections in direction of flight below 200 feet, and at fifty feet they should be flying hands all the way up preparing for plf if needed and ready to flare. More advanced instruction comes later when they have already learned the basic survival skills. Remember KISS

Should you run away from a tiger or play dead after he bucks you off?

Why Do You Skydive? (Psychology)
toolbox replied to DHolland's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You must not be doing it right. -
The icarus opens great, and flies and lands like a dream. The precision opens like a train wreck 75% of the time, and flies ok but does'nt land as sweet as the icarus, from my experience.
-
Yeah, but then he might have flown it back into the tree anyway(target fixation or something).
-
Very well put.

It is still possible to drown with flotation gear, especially with a bunch of nylon fabric coming down on top of you. Now throw the inability to use your arms and legs to save your own life into the mix!
-
I ankle lock the round ones on opening also. The extremely pear shaped ones I've seen turned away from the DZ's I've been in recent years.
-
I hope you are just being sarcastic because that was really funny. Especially putting a paralyzed guy in a lake where he has a high probability of drowning.

I have put over 4000 tandems on my Glove built by Simon Wade and have never needed to have any maintinance or repairs done on it. I used this glove mostly in harsh high desert conditions with rocks, sand, and dirt for landing areas. My glove is custom fitted for my extremely wide and thick hands by Simon, and he built it out of cordura. Do not waste your money on neoprene! Neoprene will not last,it will tend to strech and loosen and tear after less than 1000 dives,it will also make your hand and arm sweat and stink. I've seen most all the gloves out there and Simon Wade builds the best I've seen so far,but get it built of cordura.

I do not care as long as I can ride the tiger

I have over 9000 tandems and have jumped all the US made rigs. I have never had one of my passengers even close to getting the leg straps below the knees. In the pics I'm talking about, the passengers ass was hanging lower than their heels. You could see that the harness was not placed and adjuusted properly. The odds of someone squirtin out the back of the harness is greatly increased by improper placement of the hip junctions and legstraps, espescialy on more robust bodies, then add to that having certain things too loose(back strap). I personaly do not like using a harness without a back strap, but I have used them since that was all we had at the time. I think the present generations of harnesses utilizing back straps are definitely more comfortable(I've been on the front over 100 times) than say the old vector or strong harnesses(I know strong has always had a belly and back strap, but they still sucked ass),and when properly adjusted they do an excellent job of boxing your ass in. This aint rocket science. But nothing is foolproof, especialy in skydiving. I want to ride a goat through tiger country.

Verbalized very well, but I'm more of a picture kinda guy. A couple of years ago there were some real scary pictures goin around of poeple coming in to land with the leg straps aroun their calfs. I wonder if they knew how bad that could've been.Probably not, most students have not a clue and they trust the TI with their lives(Ignorance is bliss).By the way I like that rifle on your profile picture, can you get that chambered for 308 winchester.

I like bunnies, kittens, and pony's,as long as they are cooked in a good curry. I think it's funny how many experts there are to give critique and advice about things like this.

I like to ride the tiger dressed like captain crunch

Thats what I've done. Look up,find the fired toggle, and pull it down until flying level. Then had no problem popping the other toggle.

I have 9000+ tandems and have used 520's,500's,425 ez and 425 masters,421's,384ez's,set 400's,arodyne's,precision 365's,icarus 330,icarus365,icarus400,sigma370,sigma395. Other than the 520's and 500's,I've never worried about toggle pressure and have always picked up the flare toggles after adjusting the student after opening and fly both sets of toggles from 3000 to the ground. I've done 17 tandems in a day flying both sets of toggles all the way from opening and have never gotten tired by it. I like the icarus and precision canopies(size depending on desity altitude) with either toggle configuration in most situations. I feel though that the sigma canopies seem to handel high winds and turbulence better than the icarus or precision's. Since most DZ's tend to have wind limits of 25MPH or less and tend to be more conservative about turbulence, the icarus and the precision canopies are my favorites so far. I've never had the chance to use the Hop but have heard from other very experienced TI's that they liked them. I really enjoyed the Icarus 330's at sea level, but when the density altitude is 10,000ft or higher, with the wind socks pointing at each other,I would prefer a Icarus 400.

Very well put and 100% right. Rock on dude!

Nice friendly DZ with great panoramic views next to world class river rafting in the royal gorge. The staff is highly experienced and very knowledgable. They have an instructor who is also a raft guide on the arkansas river. They fly one turbo 206P and a turbo 206U that climb very well even in the thin air in colorado. The conditions here are great for high perfomance landings and you will definitely notice the increased in speed if you are comming from sea level. Go rafting and skydiving in the same day. I would recomend this DZ for 1st timers or experienced peeps.

Yaah maaan.

you must have been a tandem progression or a S/L crossover student [I hope].
