Now we know why FL has one of the highest CCW rates per capita
toolbox replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Resonse time is response time. No one has said that a gun would have changed anything in these specific calls. The response time is the issue. What if someone had a real threat of harm from a bad guy or bad guys and it took the cops 25 minutes to respond? What do you do? Beg the bad guys to just wait a little longer for the cops before they attack? Sounds like some people grew up next to,or live next to the the Beaver and Wally. -

My roomate, his girl and I are woke up to a drunk indian who was about 6'7" and 300lbs wielding a machete. We were living in the run down ghetto highlands area of longview washington where alot of the street lights were busted out, so it was pretty dark in that part of town. This big indian is outside our building yelling for someone named Randy, when he sees Scots girl looking out the window at him.He then proceeds to push our front door in and duck down to step into the apartment at which point I hit him so hard in the nose he drops to his knees and rolls off the porch and staggers away. Scots girl calls the cops as do several other people in the complex, and we wait over 40 minutes before they get there,at which point they see me standing in the doorway with ice and a towel on my broken hand and they tackle my ass and beat the shit out of me before Scot and the neihbors can call them off me. They were looking for a large male behaving strange and I guess at 6' 240lbs in my boxers with a towel on my hand,I fit the bill. They caught the guy the next day after they responded to his mothers house when he broke her arm and beat the shit out of her. This guy had just been released from prison in alaska 6 weeks earlier for stabbing his sisters boyfriend. This was 30 years ago.I'm sure things have gotten worse in most parts of the country in the last 30 years. -

It seems you would want EMT's for an unconcious kid or any kind of medical emergency rather than police officers. The original post was about police response time to calls for help, and the primary job of police is to fight crime and not to give emergency medical aid. I'm sure many cops have basic CPR and first aid training as do many citizens, but EMT's skills far exceed the basic skillz of police. So most intelligent people would not be calling the police for medical aid but instead would seek help for a crime in progress where a gun might protect them until law enforcement made the scene. -
I agree,it sounds like an ambush scenario to me as well. Thing about shooting ranges is that people are usually looking down range and shooting all around you,and they are also wearing hearing protection, so unless they just happen to be looking at the crime as it was happening, there is a good chance they might not have been aware of anything for several seconds. This could give the shooter ample time to get away as people are delayed in recognizing what has just occurred. Quade is anti gun as we all know, and is going to try to paint this as an example of how guns do not protect you, they can only be used to commit crimes against you,to argue his point. As I've stated in prior post,I have used my gun to stop two attacks against myself, and did so without firing a shot in either incident. I most likely would have been either shot or clubbed, both of which could easily be fatal, without my pistol as deterence against those two would be attackers.

I wonder if you could get an over under super soaker flame thrower bugasalt weapon. Then you could season em up while you cook em. -
Yeah I've just passed through the panhandle into oklahoma on my way east once. I've seen lots of pictures of the hill country, and it looks like a nice place to visit, but I used to be a 3rd generation logger here in washington state, and love the big trees. I love the ocean, and the rivers, and the columbia gorge, the cascade mountains with the big fir timberlands on the western slopes, and the big ponderosa pines on the east slopes. The east slopes transition into high desert and then back to mountains with fir and pine as you head toward idaho. Awsome views of the volcanoes while skydiving here, and lots of grass to land on.

>Stop making more babies, and eliminate the very essence of the problems. Over population=environmental destruction, poverty, starvation, more violence. Many people do not want to accept the facts though. Every year there are more people on the planet, and every year things get worse,so I see no reason why 2013 will not continue the trend.

>But eventually the silicon reserves will run out. Then they're fooked. Maybe they will use a pipeline to steal silicon from somewhere else, like las vegas wants to steal water from northern nevada.
-
Is northern california still trying to seperate from southern california? I've always liked northern california, but have never cared for the southern part of the state. I like some things about texas government, but texas is to flat and dry for someone who likes 160ft evergreens and 10,000+ ft mountains. No offense meant to you texans.
-
I thought california had some oil fields like around bakersfield, and they have the silicon valley along with tons of military bases and alot of agriculture as well.

people are better off when the government fears them,it helps keep the government honest. When the government has no fear of the people, then the people are powerless and should be fearful of the government.

I have never encountered a home invader, but I came home to a house I shared with two other guys about 25 years ago,and found some blood and a couple of teeth on the back patio. The back door was busted and I immediately thought those crazy bastards had gotten into another drunken brawl while I was gone, and had torn up the house. I was wrong. The older cousin(my roomates were cousins) had heard someone bashing in the back door,so he grabbed his 12 gauge pump and headed down the hallway towards the back door,he sees the guy in the dark, and just like people say,he said he cycled the the action and the guy scrambled back out the door and tripped and busted out some teeth on the patio and ran off into the dark. Jim did not bother calling 911 since it was late and he had been drinking, and his prior experience with the cops was a waste of time and more of a hassle than it was worth since they never were able to catch anyone anyway.
-
It's pretty obvious Bill. If the bad guys have your gun you are probably already dead, but if the bad guys or guy bash you in the head with a bat because you have no way to defend yourself against it,you are still dead or daim bramaged because you never had a decent chance without a gun. I would rather take a chance of getting shot to death with my own gun, than get beaten to death by a bad guy or bad guys because I had nothing.
-
I cant speake for killer or his wife, but if someone broke into our place while my girl was home I would most likely come home to a dead guy with cops there or on the way,or a bad guy with his ass shot off wishing he were dead while she waited for him to suffer and bleed out before she called 911. My girl like most women, would become medevil on your ass if you tried something like that, and she is very good with both long guns and pistols, add her natural awareness and suspiscious nature to that and it = bad news for bad guys. No kidding.

>Eh,the "ban spoons"troll was funnier. What if someone were to modify their cat to a military style assault configuration maybe by bull pupping the cat and using high capacity detachable magazines that feed 7.62x39 millimeter tape worms into a semi automatic firing system.
-
>no,the anti's you should get a dog instead There has been alot of talk lately about how deadly house cats are. They are saying that they are killing machines. I wonder when the liberals will start a movement towards banning them.
-
Interesting picture. That guy looks to be in a bad way. Is he a suicide arsonist,or is he the victim of that mob behind him?
-
If a big scary gun scares away the bad guys without firing a shot then would'nt that be a good senario? Peace through superior firepower(a line from Point break). I've used my 45 to scare off two bad guys without ever firing a shot. It seems bad guys do not like to target people who can shoot at them.

>Maybe even some out of battery firings They could blow up in there face and get batter everywhere
-
>It certinly could affect how quick on the trigger they are Could lead to premature shots fired
