22 - 23 Oktober (thursday/friday) we wil be at Ameland. One of the smallest of the Dutch islands in the north-sea. We will be teaching FFCs, and doing some beautifull photo/video jumps over the sea with the more experienced flyers. The island is only 2 to 3 km wide, and we are allowed our own jumpruns/run-ins in each and every direction that we please (beach landings allowed). The jump plane(s) wil be a C182, with an additional C206 Turbine if we have enough flyers. Click here to see a picture of the island. The weekend that follows the 2 day wingsuit event is going to be the season-end boogie for the DZ. And means you can come to the island for 4 days of flying, and lots of partying afterward! No..not a handicap system. In short, the same 0 to 100% weighted scores for each round (much like the one used at marl, and the first edition of the ws comp. Last year). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Cool stuff and an amazing jump. Do have to say those freefallers in close proximity to the other aircaft during the exit seemed a bit....eh..brave A few meters more would have made that one looks less scary JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Judging There wil be more info on the (weighted) scoring system soon. But the short version is that points wil be awarded based on the following 3 factors. points/score - how many docks flown cameraflying - how does it look estetic beauty - how well do the performers fly in terms of performance and accuracy (judged on artistic vallue) Important Each aspect of the flying is part of the score. Thus also making the camera-flying an important factor. There wil be a working altitude of 12.000ft down to 4.000ft Docks must be held for a minimum of 1 second (25 frames pal/30 frames ntsc). A bust on a dock (be it to short, or video missing the grip) wil result in no score for further points, untill the missed point is made again. All teams must fly one single suit for the duration of the competition. Each team is free to start with the competition jumps anywhere between thursday and sunday. But must announce the start before their first round (and is not allowed to make other practice jumps in between). To keep things exiting and further the chance at completing the whole competition, we do prefer all teams starting at the same time/day (friday the 11th). Rounds The two flyers are to be named flyer A and B. Round 1 - Up and Overs Dock A - B Switch sides (up and over) Dock B- A Switch sides (up and over) repeat Round 2 - Revolutions Dock A - B Full rotation flying A over/under flyer B Dock A - B Full rotation flying B over/under flyer A repeat Round 3 - Rolls Dock A - B Barrelroll flyer A Dock A - B Barrelroll flyer B repeat Round 4 - Roll over Dock A - B Barrelroll flyer A, Switch sides (up and over)* Dock B- A Barrelroll flyer B, Switch sides (up and over)* repeat *barrelrolls and up and over may be combined into one move Round 5 - Showcase Free routine for each team to show their individual skills. Show something new, funny or impressive. Scored out of 20 points (in addition to usual points for camera and style). Jumps wil be judged on flying/skills between exit and seperation, within the same frame/setup of the previous round. No inflatable animals, camera/body mounts or other props. Prizes We wil have several prizes, and wil be awarding a 1st, 2nd and 3d place national (all Italian teams) and International (for which the Italians wil of course also be fighting!). Be there or be square Comments/Questions via PM please JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

If my arms don't burn does that mean I'm doing it wrong?
mccordia replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
That depends on a lot of factors. Some long jumps/freefalls aside, Im also used to not really having too much to worry about in terms of muscle-burn. Some suits seem to have more armpressure than others, but even that one varies per person. With one saying X suit is SOO heavy, and the other saying its like lifting a bag of feathers. I guess it also depends on your own physique a bit, and how well certain muscles are trained. The only time I experienced some muscle burn, was after a lot of jumps on an Acro (flying palms down) and switching back to a suit flown palms up/grippers. Just means a switch in position, and using different muscles. It also depends on your activity. Some do 10 jumps a day, some 3. The first person will be more prone to feel his arms a bit on that last jump of the day.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Wingsuits at the UK Skydiver boogie - August 28-31
mccordia replied to Zeemax's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Only 3 more weeks to go, so here is a little update: We will have a large range of PhoenixFly demo suits to try during the boogie. This includes the new V3, new Stealth2, new Phantom2z, Prodigy2 and Ghost2. We have several sizes available from small to tall. No clothing, just top of the line, high performance wingsuits Special Boogie discount on all PF orders made during the boogie. Plus we have some (close to new) demo suits for sale at bargain prices! If you are planning a future sale, its also possible for us to already take your measurements so we have em on file for future use. There will be a (free) raffle for our wingsuit group, with fun goodies such as the FlyTheLine2 DVD. We will be there early friday, so just find us at the Phoenix-Fly wingsuit area (just look for a load of demo suits, PF banners and two hyped ADHD bunnies!) to join in on the first wingsuit load going up at the boogie! Macca and I will be flying video/stills on all jumps. At the end of the day/boogie you can copy the stills and videos for free. Just bring a laptop or memorystick. We have 2 load organisers, so lots of room for individual attention during the briefing and debrief. If you have anything you want to work on, let us know! 1 on 1 jumps and FFCs during the boogie are also possible! All instruction and organising is part of the boogie. Only for 1 on 1 jumps and FFCs, there is a possible charge for just the instructors slot (but more on this later) The jumps themselves will be great fun! Stacks, docked lines, flat formations, 3D formations. We'll try and get some awesome stuff of all of you on photo and video for bragging! If you want, supply us your jump-ticket at the end of the day, and we will make sure you are with us on the first load the next morning Not flying a wingsuit, but just interested in a look and a chat! Dont hesitate to drop by! See you all in 3 short weeks! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Nice stuff! Cant wait to see some of the news stuff, and footage shot by/for Discovery channel etc on the event! Everything so far sounds like an awesome event worth attending next year! And though not wingsuit related, cant wait to see that 108 way freefly record as well. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Awesome, Ive been following the buildup dives on Andy Fords blog and YouTube account the past few days. Amazing stuff. Cant wait to see that one! http://www.youtube.com/user/infiniteskydiving JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Sounds like an awesome jump! Was that nighttime/late in the day, or is that stuff even visable brightly during daytime? Cant wait to see! Sounds like something also worth submitting to some news stations etc (being quite special outside of a normal skydive in all aspects, as well as visually interesting in several ways). I really dont want to be the one complaining, but come on....why is everyone so incredibly lazy in these things.... There has never been an age where we have this much data available at the tips of our fingers, yet it seems to make people actually do less and less to acces it. Doing research means researching. Doing some active work searching for the information, instead of just positing the question somewhere and hoping someone else does it all for you. When I took your question (the actual subject line) Getting into BASE Jumping and typed it into Google every single link refers to an article (or database of articles....yes..not one...but multiple ones) on that exact subject. Getting into BASE. Next to the articles, BASEjumper.com and Dropzone.com also have a search feature. If all of the above options dont answer your questions about your BASEjumping interest, then for sure...post your questions in the video forum... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Both suits have the orginal mesh inlet and have not been modified. On some blades, there seems to be a bit of extra material on top of the inlet that tends to slightly fold over the inlet at times, causing a slight flapping on the tailwing (I had that on my previous suit)/ Small variations in body position and/or a slightly higher wingloading can help increase cell-pressure and cause slight variations between different flyers. Cool to hear, The website will receive an update with the final rules and jumps in about 2 weeks (15th, a full month before the competition). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I dont think EG and Tonysuits have an official teaching program in place (in terms of payd instructional courses). I think FYB, PF and BM are the only three. As to each individual costprice, Im not completely certain. I know Alejandro payd 300 for his BMI in cochstedt 2 years back (also a 2 day course). Not sure about FYB and PFI cost, but will get back on that one asap. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Wingsuits at the UK Skydiver boogie - August 28-31
mccordia replied to Zeemax's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I just jumped again last weekend, and have been deemed airworthy again (after my small shoulder breakage 5 weeks ago). My boat-ticket is already booked, and looking forward to it! Several Dutch flyers are looking into maybe attending (Hans/Costyn). In our usual stylee, load organsing and 1 on 1 coaching of your (back) flying is all part of the boogie, so use it and abuse it! We will have all demo suits with us to try and fly. Including the new Phantom2z and Stealth2 (pre-release) For those interested, we will also provide high-speed exit instruction for some awesome showcase flying out of the skyvans tailgate door, and work with the pilot on getting everyone the maximum speeds they think they can safely handle :) With enough UK flyers present, we will also try and set an unofficial UK WS formation record (Ill fly video to not interfere with the UKness of the formation:) if skills and number of flyers allow for this. And of course..drinks and nerdy campfire talk in the evenings! Cant wait till next month...see y'all there! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
To many people outisde skydiving, a normal jump (sans wingsuit) is already a stunt. When they name something dangerous, we say its a calculated risk that can be minimised by proper training and experience. They just hear you say 'blablabla...Im a dangerous suicidal freak' and will gladly watch the same youtube clip again and again, hoping for a few frames of death and mayhem. On skydivingmovies.com I see terms like death/accident etc being among the most popular searches...its human nature...:) You can try fighting it...but really...dont bother...:) Death defying stunts, plunging to death (anyone wanting to try..come see my toilet in my new house) and daredevils....thats what we are..thats what we do... Its media...not the real world ;) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
