Phoenix-Fly Tracking Gear Failing/Blowing Up
mccordia replied to elias123's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Just to clarify: In Dutch/Belgian: blow up/blew up is written as op blazen, and it means to inflate In English (Eli, pay attention): blow up/blew up means EXPLODED! The Pants merely INFLATED on this jump, and didnt EXPLODE or tear That aside, in German, the term blazen means something else (and much funnier) But anyways: Eli> your suit INFLATED, it didnt BLOW UP. Your tracking might be dynamite, but this is a bit overdone JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Phoenix-Fly Tracking Gear Failing/Blowing Up
mccordia replied to elias123's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The weightloss you mentioned could be the reason the fit was soo loose it made your pants come off. Remind me to use this excuse , when Im in a room with a screamimg lady while Im doing 'the penguin shuffle' I understood you wrong when you sayd 'blew up' (as I thought the pants had torn/exploded) but I guess you only ment 'overly inflated'. Glad to hear the buckle was the only thing really damaged in the process. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Phoenix-Fly Tracking Gear Failing/Blowing Up
mccordia replied to elias123's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Its not a common mailfunction. On wingsuits, its 'easy' to blow em up (I think especialy Scarry Perry is the king at that). When there is a small tear or hole, and there is a lot of pressure on the fabric, its easy to suddenly (explosivly) tear a hole in a wing. But to be honest, I think what Im seeing in the video is something completely different. It looks like the loose fit makes the pants slide off your body, and the airpressure/drag cleanly inverts them, only hanging by the cuff (as at 1:17 into the video, I seem to see a pair of Pantz without tears of flapping bits of fabric, just inverted). The wind flapping and trashing the fabric around at 140mph then does the rest, and probably causing some tearing at some part. Im not sure if thats what happened, but if I had seen that video without hearing your description, thats what I would guess happened there. That aside. Dont spend valuable freefall on doing 'trainingjumps' on wingsuit pulls etc on your own, before you're actually starting on a real wingsuit. Its better to have this stuff taught to you during a good groundcourse/FFC (which Ill gladly do with you for free, seeing you are keeping your promise to work up towards the required experience level first), and spending this time/jumps on learning stuff like relative flying to others. Teaching you a lot of fine body controll with regards to leveling, upfloating, diving etc that will help you a lot in both formation and (solo) performance flying when you transition to a wingsuit at some point. How to make a snow angel / Visiting Brokeback Mountain
mccordia replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Most asuming is that Valery seems to have misjudged the altitude due to poor depth perception (caused by the fully white background). Even viewing these videos, its hard to tell if he is flying at 10 meter or 200 meters. I think by the time Valery realised, it was already to late to do anything about it (besides pull & pray). Shame most reports seemed to focus more on James 'forgetting his chute' due to Valery not pointing at him and yelling "hey! open your chute". Made the whole thing look more like a dumb idea, instead of planning gone wrong... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
One question with regards to the sizes and overlap. Mostly out of interest. Was this developed by reverse engineering the 71 way? Labeling it 'a valid record' from the start, and thus coming up with a way to certify it by having that as the startingpoint. Or was the criterea devloped seperately by looking at 'perfect' (maybe smaller) formations, and having the 71 way (lateron) also fit those criterea. Remembering the pictures, one 'wing' of the formation looked a lot better that the other side. Technically, it would have only been a few more jumps to get both sides symentrical and probably fit the now accepted grid system with a lower % tollerance. In short, is the 71 way what determined the current overlap allowance/tollerances? As taking the near perfect heart of the formation (36 way) would probably allow for slightly stricter tollerances in that case? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Technicaly, 275 jumps is the quickest recomendable jump number for a suit like thsi. 200 jumps (in the last 18 months) for an FFC. 75 jumps is the minimum recommended wingsuit experience on smaller suits for flying a suit like this. Per description of the Stealth1 on the PF website also: Due to the large wing surface area the STEALTH is not suitable for low experience pilots. We recommend a MINIMUM of 75 wingsuit jumps before trying the STEALTH Performancewise, its also advice-able to first fly on smaller suits such as the Phantom or Acro. There you get much more of a feeling and feedback on your flying. Thats where you learn to fly at suit at a good performance levels, which will benefit you incredibly once moving on to high performance suits such as the V3 and Stealth2. And now the cool stuff! Expect an announcement and price info on this suit within a few days! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

No official release date yet, but lets just say it might be good to make sure you have some money ready away for this one...soon.. You'll love it JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I also (depending on rush) jump the CX100/105 just in a Dbox without a screw in the camera itself. Just always make sure your box is closed properly, and there is sufficient padding inside to make sure the camera doesnt shake or move around. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Fully agreed! Flying this next to the Stealth1, its a world of difference. A big boost in both fallrates (less) and forward speed (more). And due to the killer inflation on the arms, and clever use of different fabrics for the different suit sections quite light to fly for a suit with this large wingsize/span. These are some pictures and video from my playtimes with the earlier proto. Safe to say...I like it A LOT JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

And as a side-note. A nice, slow, full-flight flyby at 100/200 or more meters away (in front of the canopy, in clear view, without any collision or proximity dangers) is often a much coolers sight to see for the canopy-flyer, than someone whipping past at 1 meter distance in a quarter second. Picking such safer/further distances also frees you up a lot more in how well timed/on level and slow/fast your setup and flyby need to be. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think the biggest issue with flyby's is that most people are actually talking about a dive-by. Speeding like a bullet, at a 45 degree angle (or steeper) past a tandem/parachute, instead of full (and controlled) flight. Giving much less (if any) reaction time at all to sudden changes in the canopies flight direction. And also really not using the wingsuit to fly (slower fall, better glide) but only as a means of aiming. And for some reason, everyone sees a tandem as the ideal practice object, while tiny/fast moving canopies (due to the lesser difference in speed) are a much more ideal object to fly past. And you'll be amazed at how many pocket-rocket (free)flyers would be more than happy to function as your target/video platform on jumps like that. On a side-note, chuck, how did that tandem/wingsuit collision end up? Nobody hurt? As I would gues, someone with severe cuts/burns (due to lines) and/or a cutaway on the tandempair if anything snapped? Or wasnt the speed difference that high, and it just ended with a scare and some drinks held with trembling hands? As to flyby's in general. If you cant fly a slot in a formation (for a full jump), staying relative to an object moving at the same speed within one meter, then dont try and fly past (relative) to an object thats practicaly stationairy while you're flying at it with insano-speed. (Much like sex) reading articles and watching videos on the internet only teaches you wingsuit flying theory. The actual practice is up to you. And only jumping, jumping, jumping and jumping some more will make you get better, and slowly be able to venture more outside of the normal flying and intro the 'stunt' arena. And when you are there, again, a high perf. canopy makes for a much better practice target Some general notes: Never fly at another angle/direction than the canopy. You dont want a canopy flying into your airspace during your approach, or flying head-on, passing eachother at insano-speeds. Treat it like a swoop, do a proper setup. Judge the distance. And find a controlled and repeatable trajectory. Dont just 'wing it'. Think about it, and plan! when you come up short (or too high!), abort. And dont make it do-or-die passes, speeding past at close to vertical/freefall speeds. Mind your distance. Skill and accuracy builds up over hundreds of jumps. Stupidity can end your (and your buddies) jumping career in only one. Have at least 100 or more wingsuit jumps before even attempting getting close (

Yuri bullshits people who fly Matresses at 30% with bent knees in flocks where a trackingsuit would be overkill already. Flying this at full speed, I think he'll be quite content with what he sees. But suits like these have a speciality purpoise, and should be flown with people also flying them max (awesome long and far flocks) or use em for jumps oriented on slow fallrates/long times (canopy flyby's etc). Yay! We're going to look so pretty flying together at the UKS boogie next month! Sky twins! Shame I have to wait 2 or 3 more weeks before mine gets some fresh air! But once I have two functional arms again, man its gonna be like Xmas! The early incarnations of this suit already flew like a dream. I already know that this one is gonna be a lot of peoples new favorite toy . The forward speed and fallrates on this one are insane. The peeps that flew the early version at Zflock (even without the significant changes on this one) already commented on the new 'hover mode'...cruising with no sensation of falling. And love the build quality and sweet 'stealthy' cutaway system. Shame Robi didnt agree with the big pony embroidery, but then again, no keeping up with this suit to read it anyways hehehe... See you soon Dude... And also expect Hans to chime in after wednesday, when the maiden flight on his princess is planned.. I already had such a hard time keeping up with him in his Stealth. Cant wait to see what he does with his engine combined with this baby! And how Lutz likes his..we'll see that one soon as well I guess Aahh..serious withdrawls! New toys, clear blue skies, tons of plans and a busted up shoulder (healing fast luckely;) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

US Wingsuit instruction - what do YOU think?
mccordia replied to kallend's topic in Wing Suit Flying
200 is a bare minimum. Having more experience is recomendable from both a safety and enjoyment pov. with regards to your FFC experience.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Awesome seeing you go there spot! Going from being in critical condition for 4 days to visiting a boogie with friends (and hoping to be back in the air in a few months yourself) is pretty damn amazing! Everyone, give Spot a big bearhug and a sexy squeeze in the butt and tell him Jarno says hi JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Dang...I already thought those comments on DSE on skydiver network a while ago where scary shit. Whats it this time? Is stalking the new underexposed subdicipline in wingsuit flying? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Luckely, here (much like Basejumping) human stupidity comes in! And we upload TONS of videos. Like basejumpers wanting to keep their sport hidden, low-key and secret. Yet uploading every fart they let out with a baserig on their back. Woohoo! We want to puffysurf, and show everyone the video...while that same video is what could get is into serious shit if the wrong person is watching hehehe JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think in most cases, thats what people mean when talking flat-spin. If its really 100% what a flatspin entitles in an airplane. I dont know.. Call it whatever you will. But on suits with low wing attachments (big armwings) and a huge legwing, the risk of getting into these, and having severe recovery issues...its there.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Just speaking for Butters here; Viewpoint with an argument You're stupid! Reliable sources actually told me it was an interesting mixture of urine, earwax, terpentine and fecal mater. But maybe thats a bit too specific. In a verbal arguement, poopoo might be quicker and more to the point.. You get a sticker in your logbook, and then its safe! At least the Belgians do it without a sticker! Much cooler. The sticker thing is like being cool, only trying to market it like being safe..bunch of pussies.. Isnt that really identical to any flocking dive you're on? No you're not.. But he LOVES 'taking you' the wrong way..! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

http://www.flylikebrick.com/playmovie.php?id=24 This one also has a nice flatspin about halfway in, someone trying some aerobatic stuff and not closing the legwing properly. A transition to the back, combined with the initiation of a 180 degree turn seems to 'sorta' put you in a chance-zone in becoming a human properblade.. I know Perry did some experimenting with that stuff as well.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Neeh..in base its quite a thing of the past to actually have some experience before you try and do the cool stuff the other kids are doing Proxiflying a wingsuit on your first basejump ever should be the norm..everyone else is just a pussie JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
