And.... I got nuthin

If there's a DZ close by that does a lot of SL or IADs, they might have a lot of student rigs that need packing. Go hang out there, get to know people and learn to pack. I was in college with NO $$$ when I started and I subsidized my student jumps by packing parachutes. IF it's possible for you to become a packer it will probably take a while before the DZ is comfortable with you packing student rigs for $, and it's hard work and doesn't pay a lot, but if you really want to skydive this is a method that's worked for a lot of people. Does 'the absolute cheapest DZ I can find' really seem like a good search criteria when you want to learn how to save your life? I got nuthin

I haven't been in a while, but I had a lot of fun going for the people-watching. You see some really interesting people at a titty exotic dance bar. A friend of mine said he used to have a lot of luck picking up chicks at this one place too. He said there were a ton of chicks who went there cause they new it was full of horny guys. I'm sure they were real classy broads too I got nuthin

No need for the DD here, pretty much everywhere is walkable and I think there's only like 5 cars/trucks in town. There are thousands of moto-taxis, these 125cc bikes that have had everything behind the seat chopped off and have been converted into this little rickshaw jobby. There are so many, you never wait more then about 30 seconds and it costs about $1US to go to the other side of town. I got nuthin

After work today I was sitting at a bar with a co-worker having a few beers. When we sat down I noticed that the table beside us was full of English-speaking people and thought that was kind of cool. I heard the word skydiving come from the table a few times and eventually turned around and asked who the jumper was. Dude's got like 400 jumps in Colorado and is down here on vacation. I thought it was awesome to be sitting in Iquitos, Peru and bump into another skydiver. And I was pumped just to speak English for a while too. But that was about 9 beers ago so it might just be cool to me right now I got nuthin

I can't beleive some of the responses here...I hope at least some of them are a joke. Burn their rig, tell them there will be consequences (but don't tell them what or when), and a lot of other shite that's just way over the top. The chick fucked around on him, it sucks but it's not worthy of destroying somebody's gear. I got nuthin

Well they put the claim into the system this morning and I should know within 48 business hours. The chick on the bank's claim line was kind of a bitch, but I understand her sarcasm given that I've given the same shit to people in the past for pulling this shite. The good thing is that Peru is littered with branches of my Canadian bank, so I can write them a check to get my visa way in the black and not worry about interest from living off of it until I get my new bank card from Chase. Still a pain in the ass and losing $400 isn't something I normally do without at least a hangover to show for it. I got nuthin

I'm totally used to the ATMs where you swipe your card then take it out of the machine and do your business. I've actually jokingly made fun of friends in the past for forgetting their cards in the machines where you leave your card inside till after the transaction. Well today in Lima airport I forgot my card. I didn't even think about it till I got to Iquitos and went to pay for dinner. I checked my statement and the fuckers came along and took out $400. I got my old card canceled and tomorrow I'll get a new one on the way to my parents' place in Canada so they can send it to me when I know I'll be in one place for a few days. I'll also have to talk with the fraud department at the bank tomorrow. I don't think that's under their fraud coverage...If it was, it'd be too easy for people to try to scam a few hundred $$$ outta the bank. I'm glad my bank has a $500 daily ATM limit and that they didn't go off to buy more shit after. I'm not sure if they were able to complete more transactions after I put my pin in the first time or if somebody was watching and then came right up behind me. I consider myself pretty heads up and I used to think anybody who did something like this had to be an airhead, but I guess I stand corrected (on one of the aforementioned points) I got nuthin

A 'B' license is definitely a good idea for balloon jumps, because you're probably not going to land on the DZ and the jumper's canopy skills should be of a level where they can deal with an off-DZ landing. Not so important with a helicopter where they can actually spot the thing. Pilots and aircract deal with MSL, jumpers talk in AGL. You should definitely talk to some pilots/experienced jumpers and understand this concept and what it means to your canopy flight, especially before travelling to another DZ. I got nuthin

Skyrocketing Fuel Prices -- Ways for DZs to Save

That theory doesn't work for the pothead/alcoholic clientelle. Example: Q-Dude, it's Sunday, did you buy beer? A-Dude, it's Sunday???? Case and point I got nuthin -
tipping for recovered chopped canopy
lippy replied to bigbearfng's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've bought a lot of beer for both of my chops, but first it was celebration for the chop and the second was just for being happy to be alive. Then there was the time that I landed two miles off chasing a free bag (the rest of the 182 load landed about a mile off) and I bought beer and gave money to the guy who's freebag I was chasing....But I did pack his main and the $$$ was for his repack I got nuthin -
Thanks for the link! To the OP, why go through the hassle of messing with a conventional door in flight? It's a hassle and a hazard, so just take it off. I got nuthin
-
What are the regs for just taking the door off completely? When I jumped a 172 at an airshow one time we just took off the door, the wheel cover and the right seat. It only took about 5 minutes. Is there any special permission needed for flight in this configuration? I got nuthin

I realise it's a lot easier for me to say this then for you to do it, but don't stress too much. You made a mistake just like everybody else does. Luckily it didn't turn out worse. It's definitely a wake up call and I'm sure you'll be a more aware driver after this, but if I was in your shoes I hope I'd be able to avoid kicking myself too much. I got nuthin

can you use Reserve Canopies as a main
lippy replied to MADPROPS's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You could technically use a bedsheet as a main as far as the FAA is concerned. Rigs are regulated, reserves are regulated...What you jump as a main, not so much. If you want a performance canopy, you won't have much fun jumping an old reserve...But it should (I hope...)open well. If you're putting your first rig together and you want to buy an old Raven, you'll be OK but you will lose style points, and at the end of the day what's important I got nuthin -

I've barely been jumping for the past 3 years. I broke my leg on a SUPER-dumbass landing 3 years ago which forced some time off. I was slowly getting back into it when I moved to Venezuela. The only reason I moved to Venezuela was that I talked to a guy who was opening a DZ 20 minutes from where I live...Then I learned lesson #1...Don't trust Venezuelans. Skydive Venezuela is super far from where I live and a huge pain to get to, so for my first 20 months there I only made about 20 jumps. Now I work for South American ops which has me travelling everywhere between Mexico and Argentina and I always have my rig, but it's rare I find myself in a place that offers skydiving when I have a day off, and sometimes more than anything jumping just reminds me of how I used to be a better skydiver when I was making 40 jumps a month. Hoping to get a transfer to a desk up in TX within the next year, make Skydive Dallas my home again and go hard! I got nuthin

I'd tend to agree with you right now with Detroit up 2and half the game over....But after I 'called' game 5 with 10 minutes left in regulation, I'm just gonna sit back and see what happens I got nuthin
