I've launched a few bitch-sessions about my job on here before, but I'm really starting to get tired and thinking of getting a job that allows a life on the side. Last night I didn't sleep at all and while sitting here I found a job posting that really interested me and I think I'm a good prospective candidate for them. I sent my application in only 15 hours ago so I'm not really expecting to hear anything back yet, but I'm wondering where to go from here. Assuming I don't hear back from them, should I call? If I call, should I just ask for 'The HR guy who received my resume'? I searched on facebook and the company has a group on there, I'm not sure if it's stalkerish to just drop a message to one of those guys and ask what the deal is with the place and who I need to talk to. I want to be agressive with these guys because I need a change in my work and this company has a good feel (back to speaking English every day and skydiving on a regular basis, and the company seems really cool too). I've been out of the job market for over 7 years, and I want to appear interested but not desparate. Any thoughts, any tips? I got nuthin

I'm regional support for an oilfield services company. I bounce between Argentina and Mexico and all points in between. Last time I was here I brought my rig, but this time I left all my shit in Mexico, it's only a 3 week trip and I won't have time to hit any DZs. I got nuthin

I hear ya man. It's almost 7am in southern Argentina and I haven't slept. I gave up trying to get some shut-eye around 4. The base I'm working at here is the cheapest one I've ever worked at. They put me in a cheap fucking hotel with a midget-sized bed. Sleep would have been possible around 5, that's when the whore-house around the corner turned their music off, but by that point I was well into job searching. Red Bull will be my friend today. I searched 'funnyordie' but didn't see anything. This site is hilarious. This clip of Will Ferrel and his daughter is great. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/74/the-landlord-from-will-ferrell-and-adam-ghost-panther-mckay Prop 8 - The musical is great too. Can't go wrong with Jack Black playing Jesus http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c0cf508ff8/prop-8-the-musical-starring-jack-black-john-c-reilly-and-many-more-from-fod-team-jack-black-craig-robinson-john-c-reilly-and-rashida-jones I got nuthin

Actually to pass the bird ingestion test prescribed in FAR 33.76 (c), the engine may have to survive up to 16 bird strikes, depending on the size of the engine inlet. "(5) Small bird ingestion tests shall be conducted so as to simulate a flock encounter using one 85 gram (0.187 lb.) bird for each 0.032 square-meter (49.6 square-inches) of inlet area, or fraction thereof, up to a maximum of 16 birds. The birds will be aimed so as to account for any critical exposed locations on the first stage rotor blades, with any remaining birds evenly distributed over the engine face area." The engine isn't required to perform the small bird test if it passes the medium bird test, which can require up to 7 medium-size bird ingestions, depending on the inlet size. Dave So how do they do the testing? I can't imagine that they round up a bunch of geese and get them to fly into an engine. I got nuthin

Did anybody find out more info on this joint? I'm only a couple hours away and it'd be easier to shoot up there than to drive 6 hours to San Marcos. San Marcos kicks ass but it's too far for a day trip. I got nuthin

In a C-182 at 10,5 on a night jump. We were on jump run and we're all on our knees checking our shit and turning on alti lights, all of a sudden shite gets real quiet, then real loud. In less time than I could imagine, the pilot stalled and we were sitting on the tail and descending FAST. I could see the stars spinning through the windshield and I was trying to get my hand to the door to open it, but the G's wouldn't let me. Luckily the pilot kept his cool and got us back under control around 5K. Once we'd all had a chance to check our shorts I asked him for a pass over the DZ: 'I'd kinda like to get out now'. The other 3 guys went back up to altitude with him. I got nuthin

Is there freeware program that allows you to take an image from a Compact Flash disk? I'm trying to make a copy of one but Windows doesn't let me do it using explorer. We're connecting using a Universal Card Reader. I'd like to take an image and then just copy the image onto another disk. Anybody know how possible this is? I got nuthin

Have your kid had the ear tube thing done and/or tonsillectomy?
lippy replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
I had tubes in my ears and eventually my tonsils out when I was around 13-14. Tonsils were a pain in the ass but so were the ear/throat infections I was getting on a regular basis before they came out. The tubes were a hit! I was a class clown and I found out that when I closed my mouth, plugged my nose and blew (think clearing your sinuses after freefal) the tubes WHISTLE!!!!! I hope everything goes smooth and this makes life better for your daughter and your entire family! -
driving to the DZ...How long is to long?
lippy replied to lippy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for the replies....I was really leaning towards driving it and I think I'll go that way. Seems like a mission, and I've not had a good mission in way too long. Deisel makes a good point but I don't think any DZs between McAllen and Eloy would be open during the week (are there any DZs between McAllen and Eloy?) I don't wanna re-post what I asked in Events, but if anybody between San Antonio and Eloy wants to share a ride PM me. My free time starts on Dec. 23, I'll shoot up from Mexico to the I-10 and book it West. Planning on coming back Jan 3 if anybody wants a ride -
driving to the DZ...How long is to long?
lippy replied to lippy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jesus John! I come on here asking for advice because I'm completely incapable of making decisions for myself, and you won't even give me your expert and worldly opinion on what I should do! I thought skydivers were family, and I'm obviously not able to Man-up and make a decision for myself so I come on here and solicit advice from basically anonymous people, which I plan to blindly accept, and you deny me yours. You couldn't even tell me whether or not I should pick up an axe-weilding hitch-hiker. I got nuthin -
driving to the DZ...How long is to long?
lippy replied to lippy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I’m pretty sure I’m hitting up Eloy for the holiday boogie but not sure how I’m getting there. I like the idea of having a car when I’m there and a rental car would come in under the price of a flight, but after gas it’d be a bit more. The biggest factor is the 17-hour one-way trip (according to Mapquest directions). I’m not thinking the chances of finding somebody to share the ride are that good, and I’m not huge on the idea of doing it alone. What’s the longest you’ve driven to get to a boogie? Did you go alone or with a group? Any tips on how to stay awake (I’d be splitting up the trip with at least a few cat-naps). Are strange desert axe-weilding hitch-hikers really that bad? Did I spell axe-weilding correctly? So many questions! I got nuthin -
I got my days off confirmed 20 minutes ago. No I'm just trying to figure out how to get there. Anybody interested in sharing driving time from San Antonio area? I'd like to have wheels while I'm there but making 17 hours from Reynosa alone sounds shitey. I'd have to pass through San Antonio, so if anybody wants to share a ride from there or any spot west of there on I-10 PM me quick before I book a plane ticket I got nuthin
