  1. Not all elevators have big red stop buttons... some elevators go as fast as 1200 fpm... that aint slow... The door open and door close buttons inside elevators are often confused as there is no standardization of which one goes on which side of the controls... and they often only work while the car is in fire service mode. 2. OK, I'm still not back to my computer with the all the pics on it, but I did have my video camera, so I grabbed a shot of the record off it... Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  3. I've seen the "time out" take the form of "go to your room" and also "sit in the corner"... neither of them being effective... my little sister for example, 24 years my junior... my dad and I were talking about parenting one day, and he said his only regret was that he did not take to spanking earlier (he had been doing the TO BS)... now she has displine problems in school and little respect for others, and they are having problems because they missed the formative window for discipline. TOs and Taking stuff away might work as kids get older, but when young, they don't get it... but they get that I did something, now my butt hurts, maybe I should not do that... 4. Back of the hand, fist, belt, anything to the face... No Open hand to the butt... yes when it is warrented... but it must not be over used, sometimes the threat is more powerful than the act itself... "Time outs" are BS, especially when the kid has a tv/computer/gameboy/etc in their room... IMO, you can't reason with a child like you would with an adult. 7. I saw this... if I remember the kids moved and he ran into a trash barrel instead of hitting one of the kids... I also have video of him swooping over the pond at SL when he was still on the FX-70... but it was just that, over the pond, no attempt to get water. There was no attempt to get water on the other one either. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  8. Most of these things can be defeated, IF you are TRYING to defeat them... I doubt this guy was trying to defeat anything... A door closed sensor is another safety... that tells the controler that the door is closed and it is ok to move the car... as opposed to a leading edge sensor that cause the doors to retract when something is in its path... my current property has 40 elevators, none of which have this type of sensor on the hoistway doors, they all have the IR type between the two sets. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  9. is that a sensor or an interlock? The sensors are usually on the cab door (for preasure sensors) or in between the two sets of doors (in the case of IR sensors)... the interlock prevents the hoistway door from being opened when the cab is not level with the landing and prevents (or should prevent) the elevator from moving if the doors are not closed. Both of these safties would have had to fail in this incident. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  10. That's not really a good idea anyway... if the door is more that a quater of the way closed, let it go and catch the next one... not only is not the safest thing to do, but it is really anoying to the people that were already on the elevator waiting for it to go All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  11. Elevators are taken out of service when being worked on... apparently, this one had been worked on recently and returned to service, possibly without all the safeties working... the only other possibility that I can think of is that if he were pinned in the "hoistway doors" (the doors on the corridor side vs. the cab doors on the inside of the elevator)... these often do not (and are not required to) have any sensors... this is highly unlikely though, if he was far enough into the hoistway to be decapitated, he should have come in contact with the other safeties. 12. Sucks is saying it nicely... particularly for the woman trapped in the elevator with either the head or the body. Needless to say it really sucked for the young doctor. There will be a few law suits over this one, and possibly criminal charges... Being a commercial property manager, I know a little bit about elevators and their safety codes... this type of thing does not happen without someone being grossly negligent... there are multiple safeguards that would have had to fail at the same time... so they were either disabled during maintenance (not allowed by code) and not re-enabled, or they were not properly maintained. 13. I don't have all of my pics with me here at work, but thought I would post a teaser... it is a pic of one of the formations that was close... it is actually larger than the record, but there is 1 person out... More to come later... Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  14. change the presure, I'm not sure... might depend on the canpoy... shorter risers may pull your outside lines in at a greater angle, and chage the preasure... It is more likely that it will change your preception of the preasure, as you are pulling on them from a different point in you range of motion. 15. Who was wearing the helmet, you or the swooper? Not that it really matters, just curious. As for being overly cautious... no I don't think you were. If you didn't feel comfortable with it, you shouldn't have done it. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  16. The cypres fire was not on the record jump... it was on the first day... the record jump was very clean, and like someone else said, held for 14 seconds... BTW... the actual record jump was a 125-way... they went for bigger (130 or so) earlier in the event, but then backed off when things were not coming together as hoped. As for the sequentials... those were for after the state record was in the bag... had they planned a second point on the record dive, they would have had time for it... the last two dives of the event were planned for two points each, but did not complete. Pictures will be up soon (if I can break away from my day job to get a few posted). 18. Think about the % of people who jump in the Navy vs. the number that jump in the Army... Navy is either EOD or Seals that jump (maybe one or two other MOS's)... but your chances are slim in getting a shot at the team... That said, you stated that you wanted to join to bolster your resume so you had a shot at the FBI... if that is the only reason, you ought to be looking at ROTC while you are in college and go in as an officer, more specifically as an Intel officer. General military experiance looks good on a resume, but in no way is a primer for the FBI. And like Ron said, don't join with the hope/intent of getting on the team, that is just 2-3 years of your hitch, and there are not alot of units that are going to give the brand spankin' new SP4 a chance to go to tryouts. 19. Sorry about your hemet... that sucks! Perhaps this is more appropriate for the Video Forum, but I'll ask here... Over time BH has had several different configurations on the latch for the FTP... Ratchet buckle closes to the front, Ratchet buckle closes to the back, etc... Whcih configuration was on your hlemet? Can you normally get the helmet off if the buckle is not clsoed? I've jumped a FTP for several years, and have not had an issue with it popping open, but I have mistakenly jumped without locking it down and it still staid on my head... 21. AE is a compositing / effects program for video and or web... it is a mother to use without some training... if you don't do that kind of stuff for a living, it is probably not worth the money... If you a getting FCP 4, it is billed as having compositing features, probably not on the same level as AE, but enough to do some cool things (and in the same program). 22. And its actually true... got my FREE copy of FCE yesterday, about 4 weeks faster than the 6 weeks they said it will take... just in time for the TX State Record project... Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Explain what? Aren't the little green men allowed to watch a cool looking low pass every now and again... or could that just be an out of focus building suffering from high jpeg compression? I'm not saying that it is not a PS job... but if you look closer at the shadow there is an engine visible and it is close to the right length... if anything it is at the wrong angle, although it could just be that the sun is at a very high angle... a close inspection of the pixels did not show any tell-tale signs of PSing.
