Help me (hopefully) prove someone wrong
jdhill replied to BBKid's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well, technically the Velocity and FX are 7-cells... I'll poke around when I get home... I'm sure I have a few pictures of spectres doing a little turf surf. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
Doesn't it have a sensor cleaning function like the D60? All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Finally found some locally... Ski stores are a good starting point, only finding one in Houston in the summer is a challange. We'll see how it works. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

It is really not that hard to shoot a picture that looks good at 8x10, but to shoot a picture that looks as good at 20x30... well, you original shot has to be on a differnet level to start with(or one must know how to get the most out of photoshop)... so it is more than just the costs involved in getting the shot, it is the skill involved in getting the shot, it is the overall quality of the shot that makes people want it in a larger size.... value or worth does not necessarliy equal cost. That being said, make sure you are accounting for ALL of your costs... Jumps Gear (Camera and Skydiving) Gear maintenance (Camera and Skydiving) Printing costs (Include your annual shtterfly fees) Computer and online costs Registration Fees (for special events) Lodging and Transportation (for special events) Etc... Also, if you look at both my and Q's pricing, as a % of mark up, larger prints get cheaper. It is more than just jumping out and biting the switch that gets the shot. Brent Finley articulating bracket - mounting screws

Here is my pricing structure... 4x6- $5 5x7- $10 8x10 - $20 11x14 - $35 16x20 - $45 20x30 - $75 It looks fairly close to yours, a little different, but hey, its a different market. I don't think there is a science that can be applied to pricing art, and it is not based on a relative size diffenence... more of what the market will bare and how mich time/effort I need to put in to differnt sizes (say larger prints that I can't do in house). Thanks, I've been involved in that thread, and am trying to find some of the stuff locally... I've already found several places on the net where I can get it... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Unfortunately, here in Southeast Texas that is not always the case... lenses will sometimes fog up between 5 and 6K (and sometimes higher)... But it is talked about in the debrief, as are opening altitudes, not too high and not too low. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Thanks, lens fog is a problem in Houston as well... it cost me some cool shots this past weekend... a quick google and I found this. Josh Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

It really depends on the investigator and the clearance... for my TS-SCI they talked to everyone I listed, and asked some of those people who else they could talk to. My full TS-SCI was issued in about 6 months. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I agree... I did not mean to sound as though you have to be squeaky clean to get a clearance, but you must be willing to lay your life out on the table for them to dig through... If you conceal something, they will find it, and then they will wonder why you hid it, and go dig more... I've seen more than one kid not get a clearance because they tried to conceal something that would not have DQ's them in the firstplace... but they lied on the questionaire, so they were deemed eiher not mature enough to hold a clearance, or worst not trustworthly. This is the part you need to focus on... as others have stated you cannot just get one to have it, nor can you start the process before you are actually employed by the agency or contractor that requires it... So, do you have the ability to qualify for it? Have you ever been arrested? Do you assosiate with others that have been? Do you have money problems? Have you ever had Money problems? Do you drink a lot, or do drugs? Do you have an "alternative lifestyle" (no it is not a disqualifier, but if you try to conceal it you'll get ding'd)? Have you ever belonged or assosiated with "questionable" groups (commies, islamic extreamists, malitia types, etc)? Do you have a clean medical history? What countries have you traveled to? If any of the questions make you squirm, then you -might- not have "the ability to qualify for it." Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

It depends on the dive, their break off plan, if there are other video folks on the jump, how far below the formation I am, and the fall rate... My preference is to be slightly above formation level as the first wave goes away, letting them track past/below me but I will also go with being below (low enough that they can see me and will not run me over), working my way back in to the center... when the base breaks, I will go to my belly and dump... the biggest hazard is when folks don't flat track and dive at you. I spent a good part of this weekend sitflying under 40-ways... strong legs, and a slightly more reclined position than straight up and down, arms back... it isn't easy, but it is certainly doable. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

CAPWELL issues ANOTHER recall on reserve closing pin
jdhill replied to freefalle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think he was talking about notice that a rig does NOT need to be tested... not that everyone should wait for their manufacturer to issue their own SB saying the DO need to be tested. I would agree only something on letterhead (maybe the website) should be accepted as documentation that CW's SB is not needed for a certain rig. You sould also consider that you will neen a lot more video than the actual length of you final project... A few years ago, I made a part of the DZ's year end video... my part was about 15min long... I captured somewhere around 3 hours of video... I started with 15 hours of footge... granted it was more of a music video style of edit, not really story telling... lots of short edits... very fast pace stuff... I focused on one song at a time... then found some good ground/ party stuff with good audio content to tie them together. Good luck. As far as what system to use... if your on a PC, Premier works very well, on a Mac - premier, Final Cut Pro (or express) should do about anything you would want (I think iMovie will leave you wanting more... like your current program). small incident, full loop thru in harness
jdhill replied to petetheladd's topic in Safety and Training
Separating the line groups, and walking them up from the risers to the slider stops (with the slider at them) should also give you an obvious indication if you have a step through... I usually do both the walk up and visual separation check. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
small incident, full loop thru in harness
jdhill replied to petetheladd's topic in Safety and Training
wouldn't the top line set be the control lines? Followed by the rear riser group, then the front on the bottom? regardless, making sure that all three run back w/ no twists is the right thing to do. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
