I loved this show as a kid, watched it during the Peter Davidson and Colin Baker era. Even went to a convention in Valley Forge, PA and got to shake Colin's hand. I guess that officially makes me a nerd. Recently I saw an episode on Sci Fi channel and I was impressed with it. I'm getting cable soon so maybe I'll make a habit of watching the newer episodes. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pmiW0gIpGMU Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

What do women do to appear unapproachable?

Less Nessman WKRP and the turkey episode

San Francisco passes plastic-bag ban
masterblaster72 replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
from here I think this is a great idea. European countries have been implementing similar laws for some time, and it's about time the States do something too. Along with your lunch from the average deli in NYC, you get: - plastic container for your food - plastic fork, knife and spoon - small plastic ziplock back containing your plastic utensils and napkin - plastic container for most drinks unless they're canned or bottled - plastic bag, sometimes doubled. I always wondered where this plastic goes -- it doesn't biodegrade easily. Hopefully other cities will follow suit. Bumped because I was going to ask the same question -- seems like the search results won't show anything from mid-January to late May. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

This is awesome. Thanks for posting this! I found it very useful for the same reasons. What I thought was a 9-mile run from my parents house in suburban Philly to downtown Philly is actually a 12-mile run. Great stuff, thanks again. Why aren't the Bush daughters in Iraq?
masterblaster72 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I disagree. I think their presence in Iraq would be great for troop morale. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
Why aren't the Bush daughters in Iraq?
masterblaster72 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
What utter bs. Andy9o8 isn't the one saying that this is a "noble war." He's not the one sending off thousands to Iraq. Perhaps Andy9o8 doesn't even believe the war is right (perhaps he does, just being hypothetical). So why should he volunteer if he doesn't believe in it? Those who are talking the talk should walk the walk. If the president believes so strongly in this war, he should set an example by sending his own kids as he is sending the kids of so many other families in the country. That's the point of the article; I don't see any whining in it at all. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
Ah, another righteous "that's unimaginably disgusting, this person should be hanged" thread. Not sure what there is to discuss here -- it's a rare occurrence, unfortunate that she tormented these kids for as long as she did, fortunately this is not a widespread phenomenon, and hopefully she'll get a heavy punishment for what she did. And hopefully there's some way the kids can lead a normal life one day... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Can anyone recommend some good jazz albums?
masterblaster72 replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
Forgot to mention Flora Purm, Brazilian jazz vocalist. Her music has a heavy samba influence, and she has a voice like moonlight. Awesome stuff. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
Can anyone recommend some good jazz albums?
masterblaster72 replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis -- an absolute must. When I first bought this album I listed to it daily for two months straight, just couldn't get enough of it. Bitches Brew, also by Miles, is another must-have. If you'd like to hear something more experimental/cutting-edge, try Koop (Swedish acid jazz), also great stuff. not sure how many people here enjoy good hip hop but...
masterblaster72 replied to agent_lead's topic in The Bonfire
To me, hip hop was at its best between 88 and 94 (Tribe, Brand Nubian, Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Digable Planets, Roots...etc) and kinda went downhill from there. Not really into today's hip hop, but your stuff is well done, enjoyed listening to it. Please share your track about skydiving when you've got it ready, I'd be interested in hearing. Deaths Down Significantly Since Surge Started In Iraq

How to address someone who has created an unsafe situation.
masterblaster72 replied to DAVE619's topic in The Bonfire
On my 20-x jump I went into final a bit high and sashayed over the landing area to lose altitude and land in the landing area. Once I picked up my canopy some guy came rushing over to me and called me a f.cking moron and told me to look around before doing something that stupid -- he was going into final behind me as I was doing my s-turns. He went on for over a minute about how stupid I was in doing what I did. He would have gone on longer had I not acknowledged it and apologized. It was a real wake-up call, and gave me a different perspective on things. Not only can I f.ck myself up, but I can f.ck someone else up if I am not careful enough. I wouldn't be able to live with that. It taught me a lesson and I've been much more careful since. I never saw him again, but if I do I will remind him of the incident and thank him for being an a-hole about it. Sometimes a harsh scolding can be very effective and is quite called for. 300 (Based on Frank Miller's Graphic Novel)
masterblaster72 replied to Icon134's topic in The Bonfire
Then maybe your friend can choke on it for ya. I suppose I could have paid more attention to the thread's subject title to realize it's part fiction. But even at that, still a poor adaptation of a real events imo. And I'm not a conspiracy theorist -- certain aspects of the film just stunk of Rambo to me. 300 (Based on Frank Miller's Graphic Novel)
masterblaster72 replied to Icon134's topic in The Bonfire
I guess that I'm in the minority here, but my humble opinion says that 300 sucked the big one. Typical over-hyped, over-produced, politically correct, formula-recycling Hollywood fluff. Fact: Spartans were bent as doornails. In the movie, King Leonidas refers to the Athenians as "boy lovers"...Spartans were guilty of that themselves. This is NOT to take away from the fact that Spartans were probably the best warriors the world has ever seen; but it's just a fact: Spartan warriors were more gay than hetero; their relationships with women existed entirely for procreative reasons. Fact: women had a more prominent role in Sparta than they did in other Greek societies, but they had little political sway. That historical fact is politically incorrect, so Hollywood "corrected" it by giving Leonidas' wife a prominent role. And, typical of Hollywood fluff, the plot was so replete with special effects that the fundamental element of character development fell completely by the wayside. I'll even go so far as to say that this movie had undercurrents of war propaganda. Hearing the repeated phrases "fighting for freedom and democracy" and then seeing the slaughter of countless computerized faceless towelheads reminiscent of today's modern terrorist kinda gave me that idea. That said, I know that Hollywood needs to sell movies, so of course they'll skew the plot for mass appeal. But I still they could have done a lot better with such an inspiring story. And f.ck what the hype says: this movie is not the best thing since the Matrix. Not even close. Just my $.02. Switzerland invades Liechtenstein, for real!
masterblaster72 replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Definitely has its parallels, but this is even funnier IMO -- troops with empty guns accidentally invading a country with no army. Only real life could make up such a story -- classic! Will Martin Scorsese Finally Win Best Director?
masterblaster72 replied to masterblaster72's topic in The Bonfire
Will Martin Scorsese, the director of Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, After Hours, Goodfellas, Casino, Kundun, Aviator, The Departed etc. finally get the respect he deserves? Personally I think that ultra-PC Hollywood will shun him yet again. I hope to be proven wrong this evening.
