  1. Honest (and not rhetorical) question: along those lines, do you think car companies should have paid for the paving and building of roads and bridges in the early 20th century, since they're the ones who made money off the building of those roads and bridges? Or do you think that the government did (and continues to do) the right thing by burdening the tax payers with those expenses? Two different things, I know, but both roads/bridges and (potentially) stem cell research are for the good of the public. 4. I'm curious why you feel this is even worth mentioning? To point out that the jumpers took some care and planned for the well-being of the chicken (as opposed to taking it on a jump and simply holding it by its neck or wings). Just repeating what was mentioned in the original post I initially linked to above. 5. You can see for yourself here. Someone was kind enough to let me upload it. To the owners of the video if you're reading this -- I linked to it for the sake of discussion. I'll take it down immediately upon your request or when the thread dies. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  6. Recently there was a video posted on YouTube and skydivingmovies.com that sparked some controversial discussion in this thread. Some said that this was a form of animal torture while the OP said great care was taken to ensure the animal's safety. OP said they consulted with avian experts before the jump and designed a harness so that no harm would come to the chicken. The chicken was not attached to any jumper, but it was in its own harness, attached with a handle, passed around among the various jumpers on the skydive. I had a discussion with a friend over the weekend about this and he said that it's wrong on many levels because the chicken, even if in a harness, will probably think that it's going to die since it is unfamiliar with freefall and therefore is likely thinking that its death is imminent. Unfortunately, the owner of the video took it down from YouTube and SDM, probably because of the controversy surrounding it. I was lucky enough to download the video before the owners took it down so I have a copy of it. If anyone knows of a web space I can upload it to temporarily (not YouTube, not Google, not Yahoo (they're restricted at my workplace) and not SDM), let me know and I will upload it there temporarily for your viewing so that you can see it. What do you think -- animal cruelty or humane fun for the chicken? Curious to hear your opinion. Edited to add the temporary link to the video. 8. I guess they make 'em like shite over there in the UK. Here in NYC, I go out of my way to get one each morning before heading to work. There's nothing like a bagel from Ess-A-Bagel (and they don't have holes in them). Have one of those and then see if you feel the same way about bagels afterwards. 9. I'm happy this show is over. I could never get past more than ten minutes of the hyper-stereotyped caricatures of Italians. What's even more irritating is that the series isn't even written by Italians. That's not to say that the show is without merit; many intelligent people I know swear by the brilliance of the series and I'm sure it has many strong points. But watching even a few minutes of it was like fingernails on a chalkboard; I just couldn't get past the stereotypes (and I know others that feel the same way about the show). Anyhow I'm glad to see this series draw to a close; I've heard enough about it in the past 6+ years. Pardon if I appear to be a pooper, just thought I'd share a differing viewpoint. 10. Comedy...this man is 100% serious. That's what makes it so hilarious. I posted links to his videos before, this guy is awesome, because he speaks da TROOF. And he says he's god, while playing Ice Cube in the background. Brilliant! He even has a myspace page. I challenge anyone on here to prove to me that he is *not* god. 11. Apparently so. It's an acronym, but then as now, I stand behind my remarks. I also use my real name and not a pseudonym. I'm not afraid of the PC Police (and I'm not afraid of the RHIFWs either, but they're dangerous because they are insane and therefore unpredictable), but out of respect for folks here (and to avoid being banned), I use the acronym. The RHIFWs are NOT a tiny fringe minority - they're just the craziest of a massive death-cult of insanity. What has the so-called "religion of peace" done for mankind besides bring ignorance, poverty, brutality and tragedy to its adherents and to anyone unfortunate enough to be in their way when they go on a psychopathic rampage? The cult's name means "submit", but it almost always means submit to the guys with the guns. By the way, please feel free to rhetorically compare this to Christianity by citing rare cases to make them look equally evil (e.g. McVeigh). You and I both know better. And billvon, I wasn't implying that we should "ignore them and they'll go away", but rather that Arabs have always had a lot of hot air and bluster - it's just part of the culture. mh . Well, even when I google "RHIFWs" I get very few results, none of which shed light on what it stands for. Mind spelling it out for people who read your threads, or do you fear getting banned for that? I take it that the RH stands for the disparaging reference to arabs that you've used repeatedly in old threads. How about the IFW? Has it become a fashionable thing among republicans to invent their own terms now? If so, you and rushmc might want to get together to work on a new (dis)lexicon. As for all this vile for muslims, it's a *very* stale old topic in this forum. You and many others have cast sweeping generalizations on over a billion people who adhere to that faith. I think that's more a reflection on you than it is on its followers. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  12. outs at xkeys? haha, thats a good one. I'm not sure why Cross Keys has the reputation of not having many outs. If you decide by 3000 that you'd rather not risk getting caught in trees trying to make it back to the landing area, there are plenty of outs in the vicinity to land in. 14. Why do you keep using that acronym as if everyone knows what it means? It's a disparaging term for people from the middle east. Although, to its credit, I suppose it at least singles out the "crazy" ones. Well, when doing a search for "RHIFW" or "RHIFWs" I only see hits referencing posts either by markharju or in response to one of his posts. Might make things easier if he would use the term "terrorist" or "enemy" or (in his case) "liberal." 16. How's this one for original? Me trying to get nice with photoshop. I've got skills, eh?
  17. Neither team played their best -- it was a pretty shoddy game. But the last time I checked the rules, the team that gets the ball in the goal more than the other team is the one that deserves to win Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

  21. @Para_Frog If you're in Idaho, which your profile says, it will be at 12:45pm your time (it'll be 2:45pm east coast). I like your prediction :-) @Andy_Copland: Sorry man, didn't see it in the subject line, so I figured it was a new post! Just found your post from yesterday, if I knew about it I wouldn't have reposted. Yawn... Did you see the second leg of the semifinal vs. Manchester United? 3-0, 100% pure class, no cheating or diving whatsoever. But maybe you do have a point about the team being corrupt and not deserving a spot in the CL...I am not a Milan fan myself but I like to see an Italian team win (and a British team lose -- hooligan fans suck). And when an Italian team is mired in corruption, watch out, there's no stopping them!! Will definitely be a good game today. 22. Anyone watching this today? I'll be checking it out, should be a great game, rematch of the 2005 final. My prediction is Milan will have their sweet revenge today. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

  25. One of the most beautiful and refined cultures I'm likely ever to witness. What's weird is that there is very little "common-type" crimes. This strange stuff is not all new though. Parts of Japanese culture are beautiful and refined. Other parts, like their xenophobia, are rather less so. The Japanese are hardly xenophobic. In fact, they absolutely adore and have a deep interest in western culture, managing to enjoy it while integrating it into their own culture, while not diluting their heritage. That's true, but at the same time they won't even grant citizenship to guest workers of Japanese blood from Brazil (see articles like this). They also won't grant citizenship to people of Korean descent whose families have been living in their country since the early part of the 20th century leftover from their colonial days. See also stuff like this. True, the Japanese are quite open to western cultures, but at the same time there is no denying that they are quite xenophobic toward eastern cultures.
