If his corporate lingo bothers you, then I suggest that you take it offline and get some face time wtih him and discuss the matter. Maybe you can leverage the opportunity to do some synergying with him and correct his verbiage. If no solution comes of it, maybe you can run it up the flagpole if other workers have the bandwidth to put the issue in the pipeline. Just remember to keep others in the loop, always with the big picture in mind. Your colleagues will appreciate you for pushing the envelope. So true. Pajarito, which day of the week do you choose to observe the sabbath? If it's Sunday, I challenge you to give me a biblical citation that mandates changing the sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Can't do that? Looks like you've been breaking the eighth commandment for some time now. How do you think G-d will judge you on that one? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

One week features a shot of Jesus sit flying and attempting a dock. @Trent I used to be a born-again Christian and I know where pajarito is coming from. He can believe what he wants, but when he's telling people that they'll be judged to rot in hell forever because they don't believe what *he* believes, at best it's distasteful, and worse than that, it's a subtle form of hate. Reactions to such statements will be strong (which from my experience, reaffirms the self-righteous persecution complex of born-again Christians), and rightfully so. I make my case in respectfully differing with him, he feels justified in being "persecuted" when people disagree with him. So we're both happy -- I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than it really is. @vpozzoli Great point; I believe in a self-deprecating, comic G-d that can laugh at himself. He/She's much more likeable that way. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

GOP Sen. Pete Domenici breaks with Bush on the Iraq war
masterblaster72 replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Those were some great quotes by Gore I wonder if those commentaries were yours -- also very funny. I've never been a fan of Al Gore either...I think the 2000 elections demonstrated that they're equally as smart/stupid as each other. edited to add: I think part of what determines a person's intelligence is decision-making, and in that department, Shrub fails miserably. @kelpdiver I've seen clips of Shrub when he was campaigning and serving as governor of TX -- he was far more eloquent and appeared to be far more intelligent than he seems now. Somewhere along the way between 94 and 2000, I think his partying in the 70's caught up to him and pickled his brain permanently. I grew up catholic but did not go to catholic school (threatened to run away if my parents sent me) and became disenchanted with the church early in life. I'll probably listen to your links over the weekend when I get the time. By the way, your "only G-d is the only judge, not me" routine is rather stale. You are the one who is judging people (read what you said about the "storm" upthread, and that I'll end up believing in Christ on judgement day)...that is one of the main reasons I am glad *not* to believe what you do -- I'm not in the business of subtly telling people that they're going to rot in hell forever for not believing what *I* believe, and I never will be. To me, it's wrong on many levels. For one, it's no way to win friends (or converts as that is often the objective). Another -- it's not a very harmonious way of living in a very diverse world, and I think it ultimately goes counter to what Jesus taught. As an aside, I find it laughable when Muslims, Christians and Jews pray to their g-d for world peace. The whole thing is very ironic to me, considering that each think their religion is the only true one... If you're a fan of correct English and conveyance of clear thinking and logic (as I am sure you are since your job requires that), take this as some evidence that Shrub has less than average intelligence. Literally... Ever have a shitty time in bed?
masterblaster72 replied to sharimcm's topic in The Bonfire
I'm surprised no one asked you this yet -- was this guy a heroin addict? Shitting in a bed is *not* normal, and heroin addicts are notorious for having problems with incontinence. If so, you might want to get yourself checked. By the way, didn't you say you were leaving? Many people regard him with suspicion simply because of the claims he made. I am one of those many people you're referring to. Sure, Jesus had some wonderful ideas, but for a man to say stuff like "I am the way the truth the light" and (something to the effect of) "the only way to G-d is through me" is completely megalomaniacal. I never trust any preacher that throws the word "I" in the same sentence with big words like "truth." I don't think even Moses, David or any of the prophets preceding Jesus had the balls to say such things. If I were a Jew living in the time of Jesus, I'd have perceived him as a cult leader and I'd have ignored him. I don't disrespect anyone for following Jesus and will never mock anyone's beliefs, but after having been raised a Christian, having asked so many questions and never having gotten any solid answers that stand up in the face of simple logic (for example, see the flimsy answers to my questions about the trinity upthread), I'll never believe what the church teaches and I will always be okay with that. ***The Council of Nicea did not invent the Trinity. The deity of Christ is found in the scriptures in the New Testament Matt. 2:2,11; 14:33; 28:9; John 9:35-38; and Heb. 1:6 as well as the Old Testament: Zech. 12:10, "And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced." Exodus 6:2-3, "God spoke further to Moses and said to him, "I am the Lord; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name, Lord, I did not make Myself known to them." Compare with "Not that any man has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father," (John 6:46). The point is that God Almighty was seen, but not the father. He was the pre-incarnate Christ who is seen in the Old Testament, who is defined in nature. 1 Cor. 1:2, "to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours." The phrase, "call upon the name of the Lord [YHWH]" is used in the OT only in reference to God (i.e., Psalm 116:4), never anyone else. Yet, the Greek equivalent (LXX) of the phrase is applied to Jesus in 1 Cor. 1:2. It says that the church "calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus." Why is a phrase used ONLY of God in the OT, applied to Jesus in the NT? The LXX translates "call upon the name of YHWH" as "call upon the name of the Lord [kurios]." The phrase "call upon the name of the Lord is applied to Jesus. Da Vinci Code Not to belittle what you quote there, but you extrapolate from those passages that 3=1? I'm stumped. Sorry to derail this thread...by the way, I don't think Jayzus looked much like what the modern depictions try to represent. Europeans spread Christianity, and they wanted a face the could relate to, so they invented the traditional face we know today. However, I have heard of black churches where the depiction of Jesus is that of a black man. In the end, I think people just want a face they can relate to. I wouldn't be surprised if in some Korean protestant churches out there Jesus is being perceived with Asian features. I was referring to something more apparent: the trinity. 3 != 1. Look up the Council of Nicaea -- what you believe is the result of a vote that the emperor Constantine organized. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Why does it give you the creeps? Christianity is a pagan religion (although Christians hate to admit that and absolutely insist that it is monotheistic). Humbling oneself before graven images is perfectly acceptable practice in pagan religions, and has been for millenia. Perhaps it's something you should try getting comfortable with. Noice!! I was in Vancouver on vacation during summer 2004, saw a competition between nations doing their fireworks, that night they had Sweden and China. From my understanding it was an ongoing competition throughout the summer. Easily the best fireworks show I'd ever seen. I just saw the fireworks show here in NYC for the 4th of July, very much run-of-the-mill compared to what I saw in Canada. I remember being in Montreal on Canada day 2003 and seeing the show they put on...there are many things that Canadians seem to do much better than Americans, and the fireworks show is certainly one of them. Viva Canada! Thanks for the cool pics! edited for lame late-night grammar Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

New OSHA Rule May Regulate Gun Industry Out Of Existence
masterblaster72 replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you honestly think that with all of the ties the weapons industry has to the government that it could really be regulated out of existence? Come on now. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
I don't have any tattoos because I fear regretting them someday. But I'm considering getting one, just not sure where I'd put it. The design would be very similar to the attached picture. Skydive Tortuga in Arezzo, which is less than an hour from Firenze. I jumped there as a student in July 2005, beautiful scenery, nice folks, and from what I understand, it's the only dropzone in Italy that is open seven days a week. You'll be able to rent gear, just remember to bring your logbook and USPA card. This is bonfire-esque fluff; why is it in Speaker's Corner? edited to add: @billvon Sorry, but if someone makes ridiculous comments about the sport (perhaps the poster was in a rotten mood at the moment, I'm sure he usually has more class than that), that person will get called on it, and rightfully so -- no matter whose respect that person might have on this site. The sky is not falling, and I know of no loud obnoxious types that are destroying the sport. edited again to add: @billvon I guess I missed that part...I see where you're coming from then. Is there anyone who does not SUCK the big one. Dem. Rep.
masterblaster72 replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Seven years ago I would have agreed with you. But over the last three or four he's proven to be too unpredictable. While I don't really admire this part of what he does, I believe McCain is a very, very good politician who knows what side his bread is buttered on right this minute. He KNOWS that in order to get along, he'll have to go along for a bit. So, I don't think he's gone crazy. I think he's just playing it "smart". My sentiments exactly. In order to get into office, he has to play the game. One thing that does irritate me though is that he made the campaign finance law, and yet he's taking special interest money. Once again though, he's playing the game and doing what he has to do. I think that if/when he takes office, he'll go by what he believes because he's a man of conviction. I'm still willing to vote for him even though I'm staunch pro-choice, and he's anti-abortion. I'm convinced that if there is a "uniter" among all the presidential candidates, it is definitely McCain. He is a leader I could admire and respect given his service to our country in Vietnam -- there aren't too many candidates in the field one could say that about. @wmw999 I like Bill Richardson too, if there were a democrat I would vote for it would probably be him. I've had sleeping problems for years, and I use pills to guarantee myself a solid night's sleep. No problems getting to sleep, but I've had problems staying asleep. Mamma has the same problem; I think it's genetic. If you're averse to popping pills, I heard Valerian is a good herbal remedy, but I have not tried it. They say passionflower and chamomile help as well. Good luck. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
