Maybe we wouldn't have to say "things got hard" if the president listened to generals from the start and put in the recommended number of troops. How do you feel about his obstinateness toward the generals regarding troop numbers? Do you think he handled that part well? To shun what (many) generals recommend as far as troop numbers go is an act of *gross* incompetence, not to mention arrogance. If you're going to do something, do it right, or don't do it at all. More evidence that Ron Paul is a neo-con
masterblaster72 replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
That you refer to his quote about bringing people together as "pandering to the moral righties" says more about you than it says about Ron Paul. Assuming that you are going to support Hillary once she gets nominated -- you are choosing to support a candidate that voted in favor of the Iraq war (Ron Paul voted against it). You are choosing to support a candidate that voted in favor of the Patriot Act, twice (Ron Paul voted against it). I value consistency and conviction; you value the party line and democratic-left rhetoric (note your rants about evangelicals). I don't much fancy Ron Paul's anti-abortion stances myself (I'm pro-choice)...and I certainly don't fancy evangelicals. But if a man can bring someone like me (a liberal) and an evangelical together, I say RIGHT ON. That's the kind of leadership this country needs right now. And if you think Ron Paul is full of hot air and rhetoric, look at what he says versus his voting record. There's nothing but conviction and consistency in it. That goes a *long* way with me, even if there are positions of his that I disagree with. If you don't value that, and value politics as usual (in other words, republican vs. democrat)...I don't think we have much left to discuss. All I can recommend is that you read more on the man -- I'm sure there are plenty of positions of his you may identify with. One last question -- would you refer the quote I posted before as characteristic of a "neo-con"? Ron Paul is about bringing people together, not dividing. Look at some other supporters' posts and you'll see that their views are *very* different than mine on many issues. To address your point about evangelicals, I'll defer to what Ron Paul said in response to one of the questions he was asked in the interview: ...or we can vote for Rudy/another republican (who is a lot like Bush, who will leave the country divided) or Hillary or another democrat (who is a typical democrat, who will also leave the country divided). Come on now, I'm sure you're not a stupid person, but that comment really is stupid. Wow! That's some pretty damning evidence there. I'm convinced. PS I clicked on that link. USNews/Yahoo! should immediately eat shit and correct the (deliberate?) misnomer in the header of that interview "Libertarian Candidate Ron Paul." He's a Republican candidate for f.cks sake... I think that the majority of the people here seem to be agreeing with the results of the MSNBC poll. If you're upset with that, then maybe it's not the poll or other people that are off the mark. Not upset with anything. Just curious to see what the results here would be, as I stated in my original post. @Lucky...: Do you even know anything about him, other than the fact that he's a Republican? If so, what don't you like about him? I'd like to hear. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Which is why Americans need to wake up and start electing people that represent their interests, even if it means voting for third party candidates. Of course that means doing a bit of homework, which is why things haven't changed. Goes against our culture of armchair, remote-control convenience. My take on that -- the presidential oath of office: Evidence: President Bush signed the Patriot Act into law on October 26, 2001. Since then, several federal courts have ruled that a number of its provisions are unconstitutional. My conclusion: impeach the president. I read those PDF's and I thought to myself, how silly of you to make a big deal of this. Way to take a thread meant to honor veterans and turn it into your personal brawl with another poster. Bravo, sir. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Maybe it's a subtle tactic to get those who voted for Dubya to vote for him. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Not that I read any of your posts anyway, but it would be REALLY NICE if you wouldn't TYPE IN CAPS IN YOUR SUBJECT LINES -- it's rather obnoxious and shows a lack of netiquette -- not to mention that it looks really stupid. Thanks. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Woman in England convicted of terrorist POETRY?!?
masterblaster72 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Ya know, it's interesting...you continually point out others' biases in your posts, and every now and then I see you saying "well both parties are full of it"... ...yet I only see you ragging on democrats, while almost never giving any slight to republicans. Have you ever thought that your bias is showing as well? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -

I'd say her assessment is neither dishonest nor a stereotype. It seems that Rush, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter et al are always foaming at the mouth to vilify liberals. On the flip side of the same coin, Al Franken isn't a whole lot different, but at least he can be funny at times, where the others mentioned above are simply stupid, angry, and act like bullies whenever confronted with an opposing viewpoint. Lou Dobbs: Dreaming or Self-Aggrandizing?
masterblaster72 replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup, I think he's dreaming. But I think it's good to dream, and I like his dream and share it. Lou Dobbs is a great journalist that others in the business should emulate. I'm going to his book signing tonight at Borders in Columbus Circle in Manhattan, pretty psyched about it. Exception: when people are grieving, tact is important. You can say the same thing, without twisting the knife and making the grief worse. I noticed that those who twist the knife justify what they post by saying "well, this is the internet, people are going to be dicks here so get used to it and suck it up." Poor excuse for being a dick, at least in my book. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Debate on Cheney impeachment averted
masterblaster72 replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm sure Mr. Kucinich had evidence for the impeachment, otherwise he would not have risked looking like a dumbass if he were to get the approval from his democratic colleagues and other republicans to go forward with the debate. Further to that, I think it is the will of the people to have this discussion about his impeachment. I know very few people who support DICK Cheney and his extremist actions as VP. from here: Another example of the democratic majority having absolutely no balls...they even had help from republicans to make the discussion a reality. A debate on impeachment would have been entirely appropriate, and called for. Bravo to Kucinich for introducing the measure. But (at the federal level) he wants to define life as beginning at conception. And I think one of the implications of this would be that abortion would then be defined as murder, so would that still be up to the states? I don't know. Honestly I think Ron Paul has bigger priorities in his mind than banning abortion. He's certainly not one of these holy roller types on a mission from Jayzus if that makes you feel any better. My opinion is that he deserves the benefit of the doubt since he's a man of conviction, even from pro-choice folk like you and me. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I like Ron Paul too, but I'm a little concerned about his pro-life position, especially this (from his website): "In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, HR 1094." Now I tend to doubt that he would get such legislation passed, but the fact that he wants to makes me unlikely to vote for him. What you said. His hardcore anti-abortion stance seems to run counter to his otherwise attractive platform, and is the only negative I have seen so far on him. Still, he's probably my second choice after Obama. Blues, Dave Don't let his anti-abortion stance turn ya off too much. Any time I've heard him speak about the issue, he said his approach would be to leave it up to the states. I've never heard him say anything about banning abortion on a federal level. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
