  1. I think you misunderstand my point. I don't think all parents are going to choose to have sixteen kids, and that is precisely why it is okay that some do. For Great Deals on Gear
  2. And all this time I thought they filed cases based on the location of the violation of civil liberties. For Great Deals on Gear
  3. They get to choose their judges? Wow. For Great Deals on Gear
  4. Anyone have a non-bit torrent link? For Great Deals on Gear
  5. See this post for an answer to your question. Many Americans take our civil rights very seriously, and find it far better to allow people that we disagree with the opportunity to speak.
  6. How is defending civil liberties anti-American?
  7. It looked as though it could have been taken anywhere in the developed world, even America. People are people.
  8. Ahh...the sign of truly great democracy.
  9. Not if all parents decided to have sixteen kids. From a microperspective, an individual pair of parents having sixteen+/- kids is a personal choice. From a macroperspective, if all parents chose to have sixteen+/- kids, it would cause a population explosion in short order.
  10. Most non-Americans I know would disagree. About half the Americans I know would also disagree.
  11. I think that the war on terror is (hopefully) the last hurrah of the Cold War. We funded the militant approach for decades, and now in the militants eyes the enemy is the hand that used to feed. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are the results of our heavy handed foreign policy in years past and present. Oil is what made the region so important to us, but the instability, to which we have considerably contributed, is why we are there. I do believe that there are opportunists who are working the system up high to bilk huge profits at taxpayer expense. I'm just not sure whether those opportunists are actually in office, or merely influencing those that are.
  12. On this point we disagree. We no longer project a positive image unto the world, and I feel that is bad for the well being of our nation (USA).
  13. Overall, the world population is growing, although the rate at which it is growing is in fact declining (my mistake). Nonetheless, sustained growth cannot be maintained forever. There is a finite amount of space. I think we have different ideas of long term. I consider anything within my lifetime to be relatively short term, at least in the context of population.
  14. I had to double check this for myself. 1160 sq ft. or so actually. The thing is, the Earth's population is expanding by close to 100,000,000 people per year. When you consider how quickly the rate of population growth is increasing, it will not be as long as you think before the Earth would be overpopulated. Did you know that 10% of all the people that have ever lived are alive today? (source: About Time by Paul Davies)
  15. [shameless_Apple_plug] There, that's better! [/shameless_Apple_plug]
  16. And you don't think Bush has a similar affect? You don't think that internationally, the intelligence and arrogance of America is measured via the image GWB presents?
  17. I don't think they can be seperated with respect to Iraq. With respect to what they are fighting over, Catholic/Protestant is similar. With respect to the tendancy to violence because someone is on the "other side," I think our Civil War, or at least the years leading up to it more closely resemble the situation in Iraq. In the US, Catolics and Protestants tend to not be motivated to kill one another. The yankees and the rebels were.
  18. It depends on which main riser is connected to the RSL. It is the one with a shackle attached to a ring on the riser. If the RSL side releases, and the RSL is connected, the riser will pill the reserve pin, which allows the reserve container to open, and the spring loaded reserve pilot chute launches, initiating reserve canopy deployment. If only the non RSL side main riser releases, the reserve should not deploy without ripcord activation, but life is still gonna suck for a few seconds. For Great Deals on Gear

  20. How about the Union and the Confederacy?
  21. downsizing from a 120 to a 110 amounts to over 8% size reduction. Downsizing from a 170 to a 160 only amounts to less than 6% reduction, and won't be as noticeable. Canopy planform also significantly affects canopy performance, as has already been pointed out in this thread. Line length will also affect canopy performance, primarily during turns. The shorter the lines, the faster the canopy will turn, all else being equal. For Great Deals on Gear
  22. That's a bit like counting the same land twice. If the land were not unpopulated, we could not use it to produce food. Also, due to the exponential nature of population growth, if we waited to slow population growth until the point where there is actually a problem, it would be too late. BTW, I still respect your choice to have a big family.
  23. A wise man, and also Donald Shimoda, once said that a properly asked question answers itself.
