  1. Is he any relation to the Marx guy that Marxists like so well? Groucho I think his name was?
  2. Nobody is denying you the opportunity to make personal retirement investments. In fact, 401ks, traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs offer incentives to do just that. I don't see privatizing SS as anything more than a trick to eliminate SS by renaming existing private retirement investment opportunities with the Social Security name.
  3. I think you just demonstrated my point. I, too, would take the $(2^30/100), but I think most would go for the easy million.
  4. Cheese graters. You forgot to have a day of cheese grater torture. Maybe that could be zero day?
  5. It would be pretty easy for most Americans to make sound investment choices, with education. To think all are capable is overly optimistic, I believe.
  6. I think you are missing the idea behind a safety net. It is for when things don't go as planned. I am quite confident I could invest my money and receive a higher rate of return than with SS. I am equally confident that not 100% of American taxpayers could do the same thing. Hence the need for a safety net. What do I need with that money if I die w/o a spouse or child before retirement?
  7. Yeah, well, that's America Americer for ya yer.
  8. That is different than bringing a single solution to the table an insisting it is the only possible answer. For Great Deals on Gear
  9. I'm still waiting to hear some of the "physical evidence" in support of intelligent design. Here's what Hawking says about such things.
  10. Social Security is not the same as a retirement account. It is a safety net, not a retirement plan. If you open it up to higher risk private investments, for many people the safety net will dissolve into corporate losses. For Great Deals on Gear
  11. How about: VETO! Generally speaking, Bush supporters chose to vote to keep the status quo, while Kerry supporters (yes, its hard to keep a straight face saying that) wanted to limit the spending habits of Congress. Living outside one's means is not fiscally responsible, no matter how you look at it. But, that is exactly what we do when we decrease taxes and increase government spending, as has happened over the course of the last five years.
  12. You received reasons why most do not believe ACLU will take the case , and why it does not appear any rights have been violated.
  13. The laws are supposed to be enforced unless/until the SCOTUS interprets them as unConstitutional. That is how the system works.
  14. That is a good thing. You seem to be forgetting which White House administrations allowed spending from SS funds.
  15. Imagine: You are driving down the road, and a pedestrian steps out in front of you. Do you immediately call your insurance agent, or do you try to avoid the accident first. Or, more accurately, you are a passenger in the car, and the driver is driving on the sidewalk. Do you call your insurance agent, or try to get the car steered off the sidewalk? At some point reckless behavior has to be stopped before responsible actions can be taken.
  16. They did not create the right. The right always existed. The state laws were unConstitutional, and the SC clarified that point, as they were supposed to do.
  17. Some differences between Florida and LA is that Florida's population is primarily at or above sea level. We weren't better prepared last year than the Gulf folks this year. We just got hit by less devastating hurricanes. If Katrina had hit FL instead of the Gulf coast, many would have lost their homes and/or lives. Had Charlie moved as slowly as Jeanne or Frances, instead of passing over the state in a matter of a few hours, things would have been much worse. Riding out the storm and surviving is a testimony of luck, not preparedness. Preparedness helps with making it through the aftermath.
  18. Thankfully someone stands against W's bad ideas.
  19. Then why do you insist on arguing the opposite?
  20. How is that in the middle? I phrased it specifically to take that scenario into consideration.
  21. Here is the point you seem to be missing: There is no law that allows abortion. There is a SC decision determining that any law outlawing abortion (during first trimester) is unConstitutional. That is not the same thing as a law.
  22. I believe that is due in large part to us not training that being low is an emergency situation, not unlike a total. Everyone should have a hard deck at which point they will no longer attempt to deploy a main canopy. If an AAD is on the rig, that should affect what altitude the hard deck is.
  23. Velocity Sports Equipment's attention to detail is unmatched, IMO.
