"Provide domestic tranquility" Is there any question that there is a correlation between poverty and crime? "promote the general welfare" Is the general welfare promoted if we ignore the adverse effects of poverty? You are correct, it is not the government's right. The government has no rights. It is, however, the government's responsibility to mitigate the effects off poverty on our society. Certainly there are better ways of accomplishing that end, but no one wants to ante up the funding to actually educate the poor. They would prefer to keep handing out fish instead of teaching how to fish, because that is less expensive in the immediate short term.

Ages ago, my middle school Home Ec. teacher called the first one a "turner" and the second one a "spatula." Today, my iBooks dictionary widget says the same thing. For Great Deals on Gear

You have to have a license for a dog, why not for being a parent?
tso-d_chris replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
No couple is going to be without their challenges. Trying to pick and choose those challenges is seldom going to work out as planned. Its better, IMO, just to seek happiness and not worry about the other BS, which includes race. Besides, many of the negative repercussions are due to the fact that inter-racial couples are still relatively uncommon. -

I think the benefits of multicultural upbringing far outweigh the challenges of living in a world with racism. -
You mean like with the case of Intelligent Design? I don't think anyone is without guilt. Students know when they are not making their best effort. Parents have to interactive with their kids, and share an appropriate amount of time with them, so they know what's going on with their children. School boards and administrators are responsible for making sure appropriate material is taught by qualified teachers. Teachers have the toughest job, though. They have to teach, without proper funding, to the average students, while simultaneously giving special attention to the more and less intellectually gifted. All while assuming the parents aren't going to be heavily involved (When they are, it's a bonus.).

Weren't the first marriage licenses required only of inter-racial couples? (According to Michael Badnarik, anyway) -
Umm...Sixties will suck without heaters. I prefer the 90s any day.

Maybe I missed school on the day they demonstrated the direct correlation between skin color and integrity. Why should anyone care if their offspring dates or marries outside their own race? To answer your question, it wouldn't bother me in the least, if I had a daughter. Nor am I concerned about the skin color of women I date. Why should the color of someone's skin even be taken into consideration? -
9/11 Pentagon? what really happened?

I would not consider an objective look at post WWII foreign policy to be anything remotely similar to promoting a conspiracy theory. Did you bother watching the video, or are you just making an assumption based on some preconceived idea of a video you've never seen? I watched it, and I don't think any reasonable person capable of critical thought could watch it and consider it to be a "conspiracy theory." -
That's better!

It's not a safety device if it's firing parameters and the jumper's normal operation parameters overlap. For the majority of jumpers this is not the case, but for some, the concern is well justified. I find it ironic that some people are perfectly willing to point the nose of their canopy towards the ground immediately prior to landing, yet fear jumping without an AAD.

The Odyssey is an excellent rig, well suited for freeflying.

Just finished watching it. It was nothing like a Michael Moore documentary. Nor was it a Bush bashing festival. It was highly informative, and helps put the war in Iraq in a more historically complete context. For Great Deals on Gear

tso-d_chris replied to Johnnyskydive's topic in Speakers Corner
Why do so many people think that everyone is either a Republican or a Democrat. Most of us are neither, and do not choose candidates based on party affiliation. I personally have posted more than once that both parties suck. -

I interpreted his post as saying we should only really consider the opinions from the right, since those coming from the left are obviously biased, since they never liked Bush to start with. -
You can't think of smoking as something you are quitting. You have to think of it as something in your past. It is much easier to convince yourself cigarettes are something you don't want than it is to resist that urge. The first few days are gonna suck. Don't go through them more than once. Unless you have to to stay tobacco free, of course. Many people have nightmares about starting again after they quit. Don't let them get to you. They go away. I don't buy into the save money bit. It cost me much more in food, etc. when I quit. My appetite went back to normal, and now I actually weigh a few pounds less than the many years I smoked tobacco. And, for when that urge to light up just can't be resisted, think ganga. It is much better for you, and not physically addictive, but you still get to go through the motions. Plus the urge for tobacco will quickly pass. Good luck. For Great Deals on Gear
