Will he be perceived as the messenger of God?

Godd example. 99.9% (I'm optimistic) of people who read the ad will know that RWS is not trying to tell people to not go for the reserve. For them, ads like this change nothing. But that one in a thousand puts RWS in danger of a lawsuit when they pull the cutaway handle and smile after a horseshoe malfunction. Maybe they survive and win, maybe their family sues because their enthusiastic deceased kin showed them the ad 37 times before in an effort to justify why they were spending so much money on brand new gear. That is not good for manufacturers, dropzones, or skydivers. If a jury is willing to award millions for spilled, hot coffee, do you really think it is that unlikely they would not do something similar if a quality attorney used the ad to their advantage against RWS in front of a jury? If that's not a veiled attack on AlexCrowley, professional wrestler, I don't know what is. Probably the latter! -

Spoken like a true moderate. -
Yes, you essentially said just that. As to an answer to your question, I post for myself, but if you have read the rest of this thread, I am not alone in thinking RWS could have used better judgement with respect for the ad. You are twisting my words a bit there. I don't think it would be difficult to find members that feel exactly that way, though. Apparently not. For the record, I quoted the paragraph "in its complete wording." For Great Deals on Gear

Let's see. You essentially said that you cannot run responsible advertising campaigns because they would add $500 to the price of each new rig. Yet you can afford to run irresponsible ads. That is absurd reasoning on your part. USPA has a responsibility to its members, and the editors of Parachutist should be aware of that. ***You’re joking right? You may have perceived it that way but as previously stated it was never intended or implied to stop any emergency procedures. You’re kidding again, right? And yes it is a rhetorical question.Quote Did it sound like I was kidding? Did you see a or a or a ? I was quite serious, and you should take the comment as such. For Great Deals on Gear

As I was merely pointing out the absurdity of your reasoning behind running that ad. Yes, they should have said something about the ad. Even experienced jumpers can be misled by unrealistic claims in advertising, as Airtec has learned recently. Unfortunately, sometimes the advertisements and articles in Parachutist are the primary source of information for new skydivers off student status. DZ.com has helped in this area, but has not remedied the situation entirely. You are absolutely right, skydiving isn't for everyone. It did not say to stop EPs at that point, but it implied it with the smile bit. I've had my fair share of mals, and I can't remember ever smiling during the EPs. By your logic, we cannot know that it is even a skydive because the ad didn't specifically mention exiting an aircraft. An improvement over this month, but it would be better still to not be misleading with the large print. The Vector3/Micron is an outstanding rig, with many fine qualities worthy of mentioning in an advertisement. This moth's ad, however, missed the mark. For Great Deals on Gear

Many people, myself included, have been, or are very happy with the Astra. It has bonuses and drawbacks in comparison to the CYPRES. In this particular situation, the advantages are clear. Fast and easy power down after successful canopy deployment, along with a slightly higher activation velocity. Brand loyalty can be a dangerous thing when it blinds our ability to recognize the shortcomings of our own equipment. Of course, if I were buying a new AAD today, it would be neither of the above, as I am highly unlikely to make my canopy descend that quickly at my loading, and I personally prefer the features of a different model. On "normal" cutaways, it also makes it more likely someone on the ground will recognize the canopy as a reserve, and look for falling cutaway main.
-
Don't count on that I agree. Some drop zones, although certainly not all, are likely to overlook borderline or higher winds when students are manifested. Students/tandems bring in more money per slot on the aircraft. Everybody assumes their DZ is safe, and until they start seeing many other DZs, especially when there isn't a boogie going on, they usually don't have any other standards to compare standard paractices to. It's pretty easy to convince new jumpers that everything is done in the safest possible manner. Unfortunately, at some places, everything isn't done that way.

Uh oh. back to business as usual in SC

Do you mean to tell me I don't really get two birthdays this year?
-
Nah. Only the contraversial topics make it to SC, so people are more likely to disagree.

Dude, pretty much everyone on DZ.com believes in the right to descent. What we are interested in, is do you believe in the right to dissent?
