Reality: 2007 is the fifth warmest year since 1880

Cheers to ya Bill, Merry Christmas to your family as well. Now I'm off with the other 65 million Americans travelling this time of year.

So who is going to do the religious "thing"
Channman replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
Well if you are confused and need some guidance, maybe you should look into going to a Unitarian Universalist Church where they have a mixture of everything. Its a great place where i.e. so called people who claim to be christians can attend church with so called Jews and even Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists and many many more. But don't bring up christmas or the Christ Child, tends to cause a great deal of agument around this time of year. Methodist Church, would be a good place for your son, many of these churches have excellent programs for young kids, as well as making your Chistmas with your son very special. -
Its issue by issue. If we start talking about things like welfare you will think I lean way right
-
You need to give your Brother a big hug this Christmas, and tell him you love him. Keep the politics to yourselves and just enjoy being a family for the first time.

Its like having a conversation with a child

So you're willing to kill more of our good people, who are willing to stand in the gap? Sometimes its best not to respond to such lunacy.

Amen! When liberals, i.e. so called independent voter starts yelling Amen to Ron Paul, gives this conservative pause as to why. Why do you think "independent voter" means liberal? Who was the last third party candidate to garner a significant percentage of the votes? Blues, Dave From Pop's "I probably like Joe Biden the best"... From several of his post, I think he leans more to the Left then he might think, just my oppinion. > Who was the last third party candidate to garner a significant percentage of the votes? That little Billionair fella from Texas comes to mind.

> So... before I could finish the conference and get back home, she took out a loan against her life insurance. OK... I guess. Problem fixed. Borrowing her own money, and paying the insurance company back with interest...if banks only had this option every time someone needed to make a house/car payment using their checking account. I've seen it all to often, I have a family member in the same sinking boat. Your sister needs to learn how to live within a budget.

Well, I guess the devil didn't cause evolution
Channman replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
hmmm. as I've posted before, Catholics & many mainstream protestants have no problem with the theory of evolution. --- It's weird: I keep hearing about these "polls" that over half of Americans reject the theory of evolution. My question is: Where are they finding these people?? Most people that I come into contact with, Christians and non-Christians alike, shake their head in disbelief at the Creationists. Maybe its because you live in the North East. In the South Christians shake their heads in disbelief at Darwin's Theory. -
> However I do believe IMHO that fox news is so over the top in their way of covering the news that they get the most attention. Its funny how two sides see things. Its kind of like were living on two seperate planets. IMHO CNN is so over the top in their way of covering the news that they get the most attention.

This would be true if it is determined the people of Venezuela votes were counted. I'm sure there is no voter fraud in Venezuela unlike what we have here in the US.

Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others

Its responces like these that make SC fun to read. -
Its must be a tough job being "Moderator" and "Teacher" at the same time. Reading several of your post in regards to this topic, has been far more educational than the Civic Classes I recieved in Government Schools.

As one of the many members of "I survived Roe V Wade" club, maybe Toni, needs to look no further than a mirror and determine if it is not selfish to continue on with life. The preservation of her own life dispite that of her unborn child seems to be selfish. But Toni Vernelli has in my opinion done a great service to her fellow man by sterilizing any future off spring that would foster such wacky ideas.

> we do not take science on faith but rather hold it in a place of constant revision and, I might say, suspicion. Do you view evolution with constant revision and suspicion, or do you believe the theory to be fact?

Scott, Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and when we sit down as a family over our meal and say grace, I'll be thinking of ya. Some of the greatest blessings God can bestow on us are those he surrounds us with. Having meet you in April of this year and having the oppertunity to dock with you on two seperate jumps I will always remember the smile. Most of my family ask why did I take up skydiving? Because, for the first time in a long time, this old man felt like he was appart of something special, "there kind of like family, kind of hard to explain unless you spent some time with em". Cheers to ya Scott, I'll see you in my dreams.

Neighbor Guns Down Robbers with Shotgun while on with 911
Channman replied to Zipp0's topic in Speakers Corner
Not fun. I do think the guy went a bit over the top however. I believe that once you have breached the perimiter of a persons home the gloves should come off, but going outside the way he did and making those statements reeks of bloodlust and vigilanteism. Could lead to an innocent person getting hurt. Not that I have any real sympathy for the burglars, thier mothers should have had abortions and he rectified that oversite. I would just hate to see some kid playing hide and seek get shot. Your so right, I believe it happened in La. several years back. After a family outing with the grand parents the grand daughter hid herself in her grand parents closet as a joke to scare her grand pa. Un aware of his grand daughter making entry into his home he hears noses coming from the bed room, retrieving a gun he is supprised by someone jumping from the closet. The story does not end well. -

As it should be. Just out of curiosity, what are the burglary rates in Texas compared to a similar state (size, demographics, economy..etc) where shhoting burglars is a little less fashionable? I don't have an answer for ya. My home has been burglarized before and the bastards were so good that 24 passed before I realized I was a victim. The scary thing is I have daughters that could have come home at a bad time and been a victim. -

Depends on the situation. I have both. I think I would have to agree with Kallend that a shotgun is the preferred weapon of choice when defending your home from the inside. The right type of shell to use would be the question. If you are defending, say your bedroom and you have taken a position on the otherside of your bed with the gun aimed at the door, buck shot or maybe a 4 shot would be ideal. However if you have an intruder in the open with small children located in bedrooms on a opposite wall buck shot might not only kill the intruder but possibly one of the kids. So I would choose a #4 shot for home defence for stoping power, but not enough power to plow through a wall with sheet rock on both sides, and if any pillets managed to travel through, hopefully have slowed enough not to cause serious injury. A pistal on the other hand, can be deadly to family members in other rooms if the user misses. -
